Sorry Julie! Ok well I talked about YV at the Lolla thread...But here is the rest! Overall it was totally amazing! I would go back in a heartbeat...Which I probably will do next year! Yay! We stayed for the full three days and it was SOOO hot! The best day was the second because there was a small breeze, but the last was the worst. So the first day we say Duffy first. She was kind of boring, although she is super cute and Mercy is a fun song, so we stuck around to watch her. We watched the Black Keys for awhile, and then went and got a bunch of shirts before YV...We wanted them to sign one! Which they very kindly did! We got two YV shirts! After YV was done, we raced over and got our autographs. I would have stayed longer to chat but Bloc Party was going to be playing and I HAD to catch some of them. They were amazing too. Now, I am not really a outdoorsy sort of girl, so this whole experience was insanely uncomfortable for me at times. But by the end I was loving it! In Calgary we also don't get humidity, at all. Its dry, dry, dry here! So that was hard for me to adjust too, I haven't felt hot like that EVER. And since I am allergic to the sun, by the last day I was in pain
BUT I didn't care! LOL! Then we watched Radiohead, which was amazing. But we couldn't stay for the whole thing...My sister got really bad sun stroke and was like OUT OF IT. It was freaky, but the next day she was all better. On a random note, I was very excited because they had plenty of vegetarian food there for me! So were not eating bad food. I was happy! Other than YV. I think MGMT was the highlight of the festival. For me at least. I cannot EXPRESS how much I LOVE them. I love them so much. Almost as much as YV. So seeing them was INCREDIBLE. Also because they has a rather LARGE audience, and everyone was feeling the happy vibe and it was so amazing. When I hear certain songs by them I totally feel sad that I am not back at Lolla!! Also, I have a small crush on Andrew VanWyngarden LOL! My sister and I hung out at Perry's a lot, which is basically a bunch of DJ's and a dancefloor in the middle of the park! SO FUN. We danced a lot that day and had fun listening to DJ AM. We also caught some of Explosions in the Sky, which were amazing too. Then we were at Broken Social Scene, supporting our fellow Canadians! LOL. Then Wilco who were also SO AWESOME.Last day! Watched Brazilian Girls, which was a riot. She is so insane, she outfit was ridiculous. She was wearing this white thing, and looked a swan...For real. but I love their music, so it was super fun. Except that day was so hot...I remember almost dying while waiting for them to start, I had to self talk my way through the heat. It was pretty bad. Then we watched Iron & Wine which was relaxing. We just layed in the grass and listened, it was very chill. Gnarles Barkley was pretty fun, we were on a hill to begin with and then pushed our way to the front (lol). And we were dancing and having a good time. After they were done, we stayed where we were to wait for Kanye West. But SO many people came and were cramping up against us. I couldn't breathe at all because there were so many people, all the smoke from the cigarettes and weed, plus I am short so its hard to get oxygen when your stuck below all these tall guys...I ended up fainting. Thankfully some guy caught me, so I didn't get hurt or anything. But we ended up moving a little to the side. We had GREAT spots anyway, so i wasn't mad at myself for being a wimp! Kanye was totally awesome...But to be quite honest, his cockiness turns me right off...And a lot of his show was 'effects'...Like lighting and stuff...So YV and MGMT were definitely better than he was by a million miles. Then we headed back to our pretty hotel! I know I said before that I wouldn't fit in at Lolla. But we totally did. It was good! I loved the people there, and I have decided that Americans are generally nicer than Canadians...Which was refreshing! So yeah! it was SOOO FUN! I know it sounds like we had a few too many bad incidents with my sisters heat stroke and me fainting, but I wasn't really surprised. I knew the weather would be completely different than what we are used too and it would effect us really badly at first, so yeah. We knew what we were getting into at least! LOL.You can move this to the Lolla thread if you want. I just figured it would reply here...Also sorry for writing you a book! LOL. Vanessa!! |

How very cool! I loved my 4 years in Athens. I live in NC now, but would consider moving back to Ohio at some point in my life to work at OU. (Not in my immediate future though, b/c I'm happy where I am.) Ahh, the memories of Court Street, Halloween, living on New South. OU is actually where Jackie and I met and became friends. I hope you are enjoying your time there and having as much fun there as I did! |

Small world!!!!!!!!!!!!! I worked at OU for 3 years....where I met this weird chick named Mistie. I too would go back to work there again, however my father would KILL me if I moved any further away...he finally moved closer to me... That would truly get me cut from the will....no doubt. I just loved Athens and the campus is just awesome. |

Wow, small world! lol To be honest, I don't know if I will stay there...I had the most awful freshman year...but I'm living in my sorority house this year and signed up for classes I think I'll enjoy, so maye it will be better. But I'm dead set on studying abroad in England sometime during my junior year. Bonnie and I are trying to convince YV to play down here, maybe at The Union or something. We NEED a band like them in Athens!! |

Hang in there! I'm sure you will know what is the best decision for you! Living with your sisters in the house will probably be a great experience. I wasn't part of the greek community at OU, but my cousin was. He is still very connected with his fraternity brothers. Athens would be an awesome place for YV to play. I'd do the 7 hour drive up there in a heart beat to see them. (When you said the Union, I had a few total flashbacks!) I left Athens in '97. (Wow I feel old.) So I'm sure a lot of the bars have changed by now. But the Union was there. Skippers, Pawpurrs, Night Court, ... I could go on and on... Anway.. i got off track.. I imagine that Your Vegas would put on an awesome show in Athens and that the students would love them. I've been trying to work with the students at the school I work with to get them to bring Your Vegas here. I have some students who are interested in them; however, I think they are scared to try to book them because they feel like they need to do more local bands. These people need to learn the fine art of dreaming big. |
