Tom Starker, a man who worked at numerous hotstops in New York City in the late 70's and early 80's and new the Studio 54 crowds, opened a unique nightclub here in Columbus in late 2006. The building was an abandoned baptist church that had three levels to it. Starker wanted to open a place that reminded him of his days in NYC that would set a new standard in Ohio. That place is now known as Bar of Modern Art (BoMa). With 7 bars and lounges, a restaurant, and an art gallery, BoMa raised the bar and is now the hottest spot in Columbus with a wide range of events. Considering they've hosted a few live bands, wouldn't it be awesome to see our Fab Five perform there? Click on the link below and have a look at BoMa. I'm trying to contact them and possibly hook them up with the band and/or their management. Anyone in Columbus that knows a good way to get ahold of Andy "Andyman" Davis from CD101, PLEASE let me know. I'd love to see this happen. http://www.barofmodernart.com/ Whoosh!! Dennis |

that looks like a really cool venue dennis, and kudos to you for trying to get YV to play there. I googled the dj you're referring to and after reading about him it certainly seems like connecting with him in some way and getting him to buy in to YV would be a great move. Hopefully someone here has connections but in the meantime can you try messaging him, I haven't gotten anywhere with getting YV played in my area, however, the dj's are very responsive, saying "if only I could play whatever I want to play"... so could you message Andy and then stop by the station with a cd? ... since he's programming director, it'd be a great move to get him on board.

A one Jon Langford loved the idea and said they have a similar place back in Leeds called Halo (http://www.haloleeds.com) and he's mentioning it to their booking agent. Meanwhile, I made contact with the entertainment director at BoMa who asked me for more info on the band.....and I gave it to her. I dunno. Cross your fingers. If they get the gig, you all HAVE to come to this place. In regard to radio play, CD101 here in town is "Independant radio". That means they can play whatever the heck they want. And it's almost all Indie music so that means bands like YV will get radio play either by regular rotation or by request (by phone or text to the station). I don't know if their feed goes further than Columbus. I'd suggest trying to find an Independant station near you. If you're in a bigger city, you should be able to find one. But as for the bigger stations, they're owned mostly by Clear Channel and other similar types. That's why the DJs are telling you "if only I could play what I want". Fingers are burning now, haha. Whoosh!! DK |

Too bad skybus went out of business with their $10 flights Boston to Columbus. I'm making some headway with 2 stations here in Boston. Hopefully something will come of it. |

That sounds like a cool venue. I'll have to ask some of my friend that live in Columbus if they've heard of it. |

Thanks, Mistie. BoMa was to be patterned after Studio 54. Starker wanted the same door policy where he or someone else would come out and hand pick the crowd lol. They struggled financially for awhile and had to bring in new management that is now offering corporate events and stuff. So, it's lost it's edge a bit. Still it's a great place to be. The Mojitos are really good too ;). I've been there three times. Once just after the grand opening and most recently in May where I noticed the slight decline since it changed. Let's hope the two camps can get together and work something out, eh? Kerri - Yeah, I never got to take advantage of Skybus :(. Good luck with those radio stations. Keep plugging away. Robin - Thanks and you'll need to quit school. Can't have you missing shows lol. Whoosh!! Dennis |

Hey Dennis, I'm good friends with the CD101 DJs...let me know what you need. Edit: Also, CD101 can be listened to by anyone online at their website...I know because when I was Guest DJ, I got emails from people in the Netherlands lol |

I haven't talked to anyone yet, but I know CD101 plays YV...haven't heard them lately, but I'm pretty confident Andy was responsible for the first ever headline show. Coyle said they would be back in town in about 5 weeks, so I don't know if they already have a venue and just haven't announced it or what. |

Oh wow, I have to get better at checking these posts, lol. Kristen, I don't know how much help the djs could be. I got in touch with the entertainment director at BoMa and I never got a response. I'm not sure they're still interested in bringing live bands in. Jon Langford and I talked about this and he seems to be amped up about the possibility of playing there. I dunno Guest DJ? You lucky thing! I LOVE CD101! Whoosh!! Dennis |
