Hey gang,

don't know if anyone does trick-or-treating for UNICEF but just wanted to give it some props and PR here so that maybe you'll consider doing it again this year, or try it for the first time! :)

My students have been doing unicef collections every year, I think we started back in 2002, and they looooooove it. They get so excited! :yahoo: When I introduce it, at first they're just eh whatever, and by the end they're so geeked to do whatever they can. We only raise about $400 or so a year but added up that's a lot after a few years.

You don't have to know a trick-or-treater to collect, anyone can get a free donation box from the store Pier One Imports, and it's sooooooo easy to make donations once your money is collected. You can go to any Coinstar machine, press "donate" and then the code "5555" for unicef, and 100% of your money will be donated directly to unicef.

Consider picking up a donation box and keeping it at your desk by a dish of candy for your coworkers to much on. Or next time you go to the grocery store, please consider taking along your spare change to donate to unicef. The clink of the coins sounds extra good when you know it's gonna go a long way in making someone else's life better.

With just ONE DOLLAR, unicef can provide one child with the polio vaccine.

$1 immunizes one child against measles. Measles claims more children's lives each year than wars, famines, and natural disasters combined. :(

$2.46 can buy school supplies, such as pencils, books, chalk, slate board and paper for one child for one year.

$9 buys a pack of 200 water purification tablets. Five million Iraqis already lack access to safe water. Drinking unsafe water can lead to diarrheal diseases, which kills 1.5 million children each year.

So as you can see, even just a few dollars donated makes a huge, huge difference.

Hope you'll consider trick-or-treating for unicef! :)

Happy birthday Sarah!!!!! :dance2: :dance2: :dance2: :dance2: :dance2:

can't believe she's gonna be seven :girl: I saw a little girl just the other day that made me smile because she looked SO much like Sarah when Sarah was like threeish. Aw, I hope she has great day Sunday! :frantic:

It's my turn to hand out candy tonight, I walked Ben and his friends around the last two years, and now I get to see all the little ones come to our door, plus a few not so little ones. :annoyed: The last group was three teens, I opened the door without saying a word and of COURSE they were too cool to say a word, so, we stared at each other for a few seconds until they felt awkward enough to say uhhhhhhh.................... trick or treat? I said there ya go! you're the ones who hafta work it, I'm the one with the candy! I'm such a beeyotch. :ha:

I even had some trick-or-treaters for UNICEF.

Thanks, Julie! I can't believe my baby is gonna be seven  ! Time really does pass by quickly.

So funny about the teens coming to the door :ha: ! Ryan told me tonight that this would be his last year to Trick or Treat  ! He said next year he'll stay home and hand out candy. I have taken Ryan and his three buddies and Sarah trick or treating the last three years! Yep, it was my turn to stay home this year, buuuut that didn't happen :annoyed: ! I think just becuase I'm the teacher in the neighborhood, the parents just assume I'm the one who needs to take the kids around :frantic: . I had fun and think I walked about three miles  , so it's all good :D !
