While everyone playing the class they want to play is important, so is making a well balanced group. I will briefly go over each role in a group and explain which classes are best suited to filling those roles. However, while I do want you to select your classes logically, keep in mind that I will also balance my campaign based around your class selections. I will design encounters and dungeons to challenge you based on your party composition, rather than what would be ideal. Tank: Every party could benefit from someone big and beefy and covered in armor to lead the way and take the blows. Warriors, Shadow Knights and Paladins are all perfectly suited to this role. Believe it or not, Rangers can also do an admirable job when equipped properly. Magicians and Necromancers have a limited ability to be tanks by using their pets. Healer: Someone to keep the party going and out of death's clutches. The Cleric is hands down the best in the game in terms of raw healing potential, but the Shaman and Druid are both excellent healers while being more versatile than the cleric is. Paladins, Beastlords and Rangers can function as healers as well, though they are better suited to being backup healers. Damage Dealer: Every class can deal damage, but some classes are specialized in ending their targets quickly and brutally. When it comes to sheer, raw killing power, look no further than the Wizard. Aside from that, the Rogue, Monk, Magician and Necromancer are all deadly combatants. Also, while not quite as powerful, the Beastlord, Shadow Knight, Warrior and Ranger cannot be overlooked in a fight. Finally, Druids have quite a few nukes up their sleeves, and shouldn't be counted out. Support: The support keeps their allies buffed and their enemies debuffed, causing the fight to go more smoothly and safely. The Enchanter and Bard are best suited for this role, having a myriad of options to both raise their allies to the heights of power while befuddling their enemies. Shamans also function amazingly well as support, especially with their added ability to be a healer. Clerics and Necromancers are on opposite ends of the support spectrum, with the Cleric focusing on party buffs, and the Necromancer focusing on enemy debuffs. Druids also make good support, but not as good as any of the others mentioned here. Scout: This is someone who can spot and disable traps, as well as scout ahead. Scouts also have honed senses that better enable them to pick up on subtle details other classes would miss. When it comes to this job, there's no substitute for the Rogue. In fact, the Bard is the only class besides Rogue that is even capable of putting skill points in the Disable Device skill to enable the party to disarm traps, but will always be leagues behind the Rogue. Aside from them, the Monk, Beastlord and Ranger can all function as scouts. Jack of All Trades: Some classes just do a lot of things well. If you pick Bard, Beastlord, Druid or Ranger, you can feel confident that you'll most likely fill some role in the group that's lacking. Likewise, that same versatility allows them to respond to a variety of situations. For example, while the Wizard might be unparalleled in its ability to turn enemies into crispy critters, the Druid can nuke and heal... But wait! Not all decisions are based on combat and dungeon crawling alone. Remember that you will be conversing with NPCs, traveling the land and investigating mysterious objects. Conversation skills, knowledge skills and survival skills are all important to keep in mind when designing your character. Make sure that once your classes are selected, you cover a wide variety of different non-combat skills as well. That way you can handle any situation that might come your way. So, with all of that said, please discuss what you would like to play with your fellow party mates. Once you've all selected a class, I'll help you stat up your character if you so desire.
