Oh yes, that gay and more. No one cared about her singing talent. It was the novelty of having a big star from outside the music world warbling off key that people were interested in, so her lack of talent was given a pass by the viewing public. And in those days it was all about the costumes. The women in my office used to sit and rave about how fabulous this one or that one's costume was on some show they saw the night before. It was a much more innocent time, and it didn't take as much to keep people entertained as it does today. |

I was in my early 20s lived on Long Island and yes the mid 70s to the early 80s were really THAT Gay and THAT fabulous. No one paid attention to that campy crap...the good clubs had great music. I feel sorry for anyone that didn't get to experience those times...the 60s and 70s for all their problems at least had artist freedom...jeez this country is being taken down by a bunch of rich old white guys who should have come out of the closet (Jerry, I'm talking to you dear) but want us to behave like puritains. The world mocks us. In the meantime, everybody dance! http://youtu.be/s5iqfk4CPQ8 |

What is Cajun king Doug Kershaw doing on there, with his wolfman sideburns? I used to like to watch him break the strings on his fiddle- he was so aggressive. |

That Raquel Welch video was really more 60s than 70s. It was released in 1970, when the 70s still looked and sounded like the 60s. It led me to a link of Raquel recently doing an interview about Myra Breckenridge at Lincoln Center. She tore Mae West to pieces. (But the gay English twit ineptly interviewing her never picked up on her many attempts to fish for compliments by saying how old and ugly she [Raquel] was.) That led me to a video from 1971 of Mae West addressing UCLA. She was much kinder to Raquel, although let it be known she didn't think much of her with faint praise. She also ended by saying her next project was bedtime stories for children including "Three Fags in a Tub, Rub-a-Dub-Dub!" I was a little shocked to hear her use that word. I guess it was a different time. |
