These ceramic cooktops are AWFUL! My sister has one and it is almost impossible to control the heat on it. I have gas and it takes me less than 10 minutes to bring a large pot of water to a boil. Her very expensive ceramic cooktop takes 45 minutes. And, as this picture shows, is a fucking nightmare to clean. See My Lovely Sauce Residue! |

I love my ceramic cooktop, so much so I put another one down here at the river. I don't have any trouble getting things up to heat fast. It has this function called"infrared transmission" and it will get a pot of water boiling in no time. But I admit that they take a bit of getting used to if you're used to gas or the old fashion electric coil ranges. I've found those specialty ceramic cooktop cleaners don't work well. I use "Bar Keepers Friend" and it keeps mine looking like new. |

I'll tell my sister about Bar Keeper's Friend. The thing I don't like about it is the surface retains heat for too long. With gas, if I realize a sauce is about to boil over or ruin, I can't lower the temperature right away. |

From the same house. I think this is a super-stupid idea: to make an appliance part of your stone counter. Nothing ages or gets obsolete like a gimmicky appliance. |

I also love my ceramic stove top I switched to one of those when my old stove gave out; electric coils which were a pain in the ass to clean underneath after boil overs, etc. don't miss having to change those metal inserts that went underneath them oh, I don't use those special ceramic cook top cleaners either...I use toothpaste and either a paper towel or a scuffy pad with gentle pressure for more stubborn spills |

Bar Keepers Friend has an acid in it that dissolves the stain much better than a plain powdered cleaner like Ajax. You definitely don't want to use it without gloves. I use it to clean everything from my copper pots to the glass pot lids. It's also great on brass. The powder is so fine that it doesn't scratch things that other powdered cleansers would. For my cooktop I make a thick paste with some water and slather it on and just let it sit for a while (if needed) so it can eat through anything thick. Oh yes, don't ever buy the liquid Bar Keepers Friend. It does not do anywhere near as good a job as the powder. |

You ladies could benefit from some testosterone injections. |

Home ownership is clearly outside your ability and, therefore, interest. |

thanks, but I'll have to pass on the injections ...because, like your post, they both come from little pricks

Those are probably induction elements. There's no reason to have gas and regular ceramic elements. When I was looking at cooktops a few weeks back I saw several that had combination gas and induction. The induction cooktop will heat super fast and go cold almost immediately with only residual heat from whatever pan you heated up on the glass. In fact you can turn an induction element on high and lay your hand on it and feel nothing. They will only heat induction compatible metal pans. |

We have ceramic cooktops, which take forever to heat up. We wish we had gas burners instead. Our electric oven is good though. |

I'm scared of those cooktops. I'm so absent-minded, I'm afraid I'd forget it was on and then brush my hand against it or something. |

For me the kitchen is a big no, it does not appear to be practical at all. I thought kitchens were designed on a triangle for maximum efficiency. Just jamming high dollar items in a kitchen for status? Then renovation was started in 2009 and the kitchen was outdated when they started it. |
