We did a lot of searching on youtube because 99% of the painting videos are just crap. We like the bright colors with the oil on canvas he is using. Tomorrow we shall buy a palette knife! |

The old Bob Ross videos are good to give you the basics of landscape painting. His style was very kitchy, but he knew what he was doing and was a good teacher. My best friend's late aunt took up painting in her dotage and learned everything from watching Bob Ross. I have a storage room full of her canvases. I made the mistake of telling (lying) her that her paintings were wonderful. While they were nothing I would display, she clearly learned well how to get the basics done. They were far better than your average person who just decides to start painting one day. If you haven't checked him out, look at a few of his videos. https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=bob+ross |

A suicidal person going to buy a palette knife. Not the cleanest way to go, but I guess it can be done. |

I'm afraid they're all packed away in my warehouse in Atlanta. I'm 3 hours south these days. |

You don't live in Hotlanta anymore? Now that's big news. Have you moved to the actual Tybee Island? I hope you haven't moved to Florida, Gods Waiting Room. |

No I still live in Atlanta primarily. I bought a house down on the Ogeechee River (3 hours south of Atlanta) while you were absent and sold the Tybee house. I'll be heading back north probably just before Thanksgiving. |

Thanks Tybee. Can you swim in your river? A river is good only if one can swim in it. In Basel we observed people swimming in the Rhine and a Basel friend told us how it is done. One puts one's clothes and shoes in a waterproof rucksack. jumps in the Rhine in CH and the powerful current soon carries one to Germany, where one gets out and takes the bus back to CH. We can't wait to try it ourself! |

It's swimable, but I'm not about to do it. There are creatures in the water I'm definitely afraid of (aligators, snakes, and reportedly some catfish that grow to gargantuan sizes over 100 lbs. that have been known to bite people). |
