http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2015/01/29/julianne-moore-believing-in-god_n_6573352.html In 2009, Julianne Moore's mother, Anne Smith, died suddenly of septic shock. She was 68, and Moore was devastated. After that, she stopped believing in God. "I learned when my mother died five years ago that there is no 'there' there," Moore, 54, told The Hollywood Reporter. "Structure, it's all imposed. We impose order and narrative on everything in order to understand it. Otherwise, there's nothing but chaos." "We don't know why it happened," she explained. "She went to bed, and it turned out she had a huge bacterial infection.” Moore does believe in therapy, though. The "Still Alice" star told THR that she started going to therapy in her early 30s because she found that she was incredibly unhappy. "I was lonely," she said. "I don't think I felt happy. I didn't have the kind of personal life I wanted. I'd spent my 20s working hard and trying to get to wherever there was, which wasn't really anywhere. It was just a job, and I really wanted a family." This isn't the first time Moore has opened up about how much therapy has helped her. In 2010, she told The Guardian that her therapist was the reason for her marriage with now-husband Bart Freundlich. "The only reason I got married in 2003 was for my children," she said. "I had a therapist who said marriage is really a container for a family and that made sense to me." |

OT: I've seen two of her movies...Boogie Nights and The Hours. I think she was terrific in both. Really like her. |

That is sort of brave of her to say before the Oscar ballots are cast. We live in a country where atheists are hated more than gays or serial killers. I do love her as an actress. It is long since time she won an Oscar. |

She's been a well known atheist for a few years so I would doubt it would have much effect on her Oscar chances. I would think there are probably far more atheists in the entertainment industry who aren't willing to admit it than ones who are. A good percentage of people sitting in the pews of every church on Sundays are technically atheists. They just won't admit it because they neither believe anything they hear, nor practice the religion they pretend to live by. No group loves to lie themselves into believing their own lies more than a bunch of fake Christians. |

Most people are "religious" for the same reason they don't fart out loud in public: Social pressure. |

Exactly! Sunday services are little more than a social occasion and fashion show for most attendees. The blathering fake holy man is just something they have to put up with. |

Now don't be a hater..... We all need someplace to go and show off the divooon new frock we got on sale at Milly's Hat and Dress Salon. We'd look downright stupid to wear it at the PTA on Wednesdays. |
