It's been about two years since I have been on Facebook. I do want to update my "page" though and add a new profile photo-then put it through that rainbow thing that everyone is doing since the SCOTUS Marriage Equality decision. Would you believe that I still haven't gotten back on after like 5 days? Now Facebook is requiring me to make a digital scan of my NYS Drivers License and send them a .jpg to probe my identity?! Either than or submit a copy of my birth certificate or SS Card. Isn't that ridiculous? I'm going to give in and do it though. I just don't want to be left out anymore. I think it's unfair and invasive though. Has anyone else encountered this? |

What else can I do? I can't get back on to update my own page or interact with people who posted messages for me. If it's only my license, there can't be much harm. Sometimes you have to show it for different things. ...and it's not like Facebook/NSA/CIA (not to be too about it) don't know everything anyway, right?

We are careful not to put anything on Facebook that we would not want on the front page of the LA Times tomorrow. Because Facebook = CIA/NSA/etc |

You can say "piss on Facebook" and just forget about whatever messages (the senders of which have probably long ago stopped expecting a response) are there. |

Hasn't Facebook always been mainly for fish (aka str8 females)? Since there is no way(that we have found) to make money from it we regard it a a total waste of time. Edited by Erna, Jul 1 2015, 07:12 AM.

Is your account under a pseudonym? Facebook is cracking down on fake accounts. We tried to create one for a fictional TBS TV character once and they asked for a driver's license. I almost created one, but realized it would be fraud and dropped the whole thing. |

No it's under my real name. I actually did send them the .jpg of my license today and they let me back in-provisionally. They will be determine within 7 days if I really am who I was I am. Ridiculous, huh? I don't plan to do it much but I want to update things, delete all my old posts (especially the "poor me" complaints and some other rants. Ha Ha) I think I should polish it up so that I look like a serious minded ELA teacher. If it ever becomes an issue I'll lock it down and make it private-but for now I want go use it as sort of a promotional thing for myself (talk about Shakespeare, novels, diversity, TED Talks, anti-bullying, etc.) I also want to update my photo and make it rainbow-colored for the SCOTUS decision-better late than never. (If any of you guys want to be Facebook friends with me send me a request.) |

Well, with Facebook you can check people out before you accept a friend request and, of course, it's easy enough to unfriend/block. But, you're probably right. Besides, someone would have to know my name before they were even able to look me up...so probably it's not going to happen. I already see that I don't even know/remember half the Facebook "friends" I already have. I'm thinking I might just update/polish up my page, delete any old "meltdown" threads (though that was more of a Twitter thing) and leave FB alone except for an image enhancing update every now and then. I have already updated my Twitter account and gotten rid of all my old Tweets. Having this site to interact with people is enough for me TBH. |

I was a hot mess on social media for a while back when I was so over-prescribed. :/ Mostly on Twitter, though. All the gay soap fans ganged up and bullied me We can be a pretty dramatic bunch! :rofl I got rid of all my Tweets a while ago and now I'm getting Facebook sorted out. If I get a full-time job I'll probably make most of it private, though. But, at this point it's a good idea to be able to network and everything. I should do Linked In, too. Your favorite Octopus will soon have a sterling social media presence. |
