POW's vs Hero's

It's been discussed that all Pow's are not hero's and I can agree with that. The Vet's that lose arms, legs, eyes and lives are soon forgot about while some claims to fame are just being a pow and they ride that horse till they die. Many have tried to turn the deserter Bowe Bergdahl into a hero, he is far from it, he's more like Old Shoe in Wag The Dog (an excellent movie btw). Just because the media says someone is a hero doesn't make them one.

People with even average intelligence know that anything that comes from the media in this country should be assumed suspect until it can be proven without a doubt. But unfortunately the media is one of the reasons a large percentage of the population in this country have become near cretins.

I think the word "hero" is one of the most overused in America.

That said, I'm not comfortable letting people like OP decide when it should be used.
