http://khon2.com/2015/07/24/new-urine-resistant-walls-in-san-francisco-pee-back/ You'd have to paint the whole city, top to bottom, in SF to be effective. Place reeks on Market Street and the surrounding area. For the beer gardens, wouldn't it be easier to just have more port a pottys available? |

This is a time when I believe liberal politicians have failed miserably. Of all the cities in this country no other has the scenic beauty of San Francisco IMO, but the extreme social tolerance there has allowed the homeless to just have their way and the city suffers.

I am in total agreement. Having grown up in SF, kept a small apartment in the City, and love the town in a personal way, I've seen "good intentions" almost ruin it over the years. Also, the tolerance Sf is known for does not reach to all views and people. |

Those types of things usually have a way of correcting themselves in time. Eventually I'll bet the more powerful people in San Francisco will finally have had enough and force the folks in City Hall to make some changes. |

Well, perhaps so, but just how long will detrimental, inappropriate social behavior be tolerated? Will proper hygiene facilities ever be made available, at the very least? Adequate social services to handle the chronically mentally ill? Or is this just basic human behavior that says it is A OK to take a dump on moving escalators that service public transportation. ie: BART station at Mission and 16th, the human sewage stop. Or allowing druggies to openly shoot up in tourist areas because they can't help themselves so let's not put an extra burden on them. Big city living is tough for everyone. Traffic, crime, filth. But do we have to go to the extremes of say, Singapore, to have some semblance of order and livability? Or do we as individuals need to take small steps to improve the living environment and not wait for lazy politicians to do the heavy lifting. |

It's just a matter of enough voters getting sick and tired and putting people in office who'll get the job done. If the voters don't care enough to do it not much will change sadly. SF has seemed to be going the way of Manhattan for many years. Mainly the very rich and the very poor in the city with most of the middle class having been priced out into the suburbs. I find it hard to believe the very rich haven't been up in arms about the problems with the homeless and the drug addicts. I have to wonder if the politicians in SF have gotten to the point that they don't care what the rich think. Edited by Tybee, Jul 25 2015, 02:14 PM.
