They should set these precious little citizens off on the broad. The breed is toxic and dangerous.

New York City news outlets and blogs are lighting up today after a ferocious pit bull attack in the Bronx left two men hospitalized. The attack has spurred renewed calls for the city to ban the breed. The New York Daily News reports:

A Bronx woman ordered her two pit bulls to viciously attack a 62-year-old man Friday morning as neighbors frantically tried to intervene and blood streaked the street, according to police and graphic video. Cynthia Oliver, 55, began arguing with the unnamed victim outside her building at 2414 Belmont Ave, police said. She soon let the pets off the leash and ordered them to attack, they said. After the pets lunged at the man, a good Samaritan tried to wrangle them in on their leashes, according to video filmed from a nearby apartment. The beasts kept up their assault as the victim twisted on the ground and the other man stepped over him to try to protect him. At one point, the pit bulls bit the man’s shoulders and pulled him closer to the curb. As a witness in the video screamed and called police, about eight neighbors swarmed to stop the attack, including those armed with a hose, a whip and a bat. While neighbors whipped the dogs away and blasted them with water, the pit bulls went after a 46-year-old good Samaritan.

The first victim lost his right ear and reportedly suffered severe nerve damage to his arms as well as deep puncture wounds all over his body. He and the man who first came to his defense are in stable condition in a Bronx hospital. Cynthia Oliver has been charged with eight counts of assault and two counts of reckless endangerment. The nature of her argument with the first victim is not yet known. The dogs are in the custody of Animal Control.

The entire video on Joe My God is brutal and vicious. Never seen anything like it. Extremely gruesome. When they drag the man over to the curb, you get the sense that nothing will stop them.

Pit bulls are only vicious and mean if they are raised and trained that way, or are abused.

My 2nd bisexual ex had one pit bull and she was very nice, and calm. A sweet and loving dog. When she died he got two pit bull mixes who were friendly and nice.

I lived with him and all of these dogs and nobody even guests to the house ever got attacked or hurt by one of them. My 2nd ex recently got a pit bull puppy, and it too is nice and not mean or vicious.

So you're saying 90% of pit bulls have been abused. They are a dangerous breed. They can tear their owners to shreds as far as I'm concerned but when they attack others, they should be killed.

90% of pitbulls do not attack people.

It's the low percentage of the ones that have been abused or trained to attack that do this.

Other breeds of large dogs attack people as well but it only happens when they are trained to do this, or when they have been abused by people and are afraid of them so they attack.

I agree. She knew full well what her dogs were capable of. I get the feeling that a much too high percentage of people who get pit bulls do so in order to train them to be mean. Also, I believe there are some people who don't intentionally train their pit bulls to be mean, but because of the circumstances of their lives their animals never become properly socialized around other people. I have read that more people are bitten by chihuahuas and poodles every year than pit bulls. It's just that the pit bulls have so much more biting power than most other dogs.

I think some pit bulls go through life as nice pets, never causing anyone any problems. Then there are some who seem to be fine until something sets them off, and obviously there are animals like those owned by this idiot that should never be let out of a cage unless it's to euthanize them. It seems there is no guarantee what any particular animal is going to do, therefore they scare me.

It's all in how they're raised.

Canada has the right idea. I've seen first hand the destruction they cause as pets.

You'd be foolish to keep one as a pet, especially around children.

I think adopting a grown Pit Bull is the wrong thing to do. You have no first hand knowledge of the dog's history or demeanor, other than what someone else tells you.

My ex who had them that I posted about before got his all as puppies and trained them well. But not everyone does this.
