SHALLOTTE, N.C. — A North Carolina woman who won a $188 million Powerball jackpot earlier this year was cited after drugs were found in her home, ABC affiliate WWAY reported.

Marie Holmes, 26, of Shallotte walked away with nearly $88 million after paying taxes and taking a lump sum from the February lottery win.

Officials said Holmes lived with Lamarr McDow, who was released from jail early on a $3 million bond after being charged with heroin trafficking and possession with intent to manufacture, sell and deliver heroin.

Brunswick County Sheriff’s deputies arrested McDow on Thursday for violating the curfew requirements of his pretrial release, a spokeswoman told WWAY.

The spokeswoman said there was a strong odor of marijuana inside the home, so deputies got a search warrant. Officials said deputies found a gun and charged McDow with possession of a firearm by a felon.

Brunswick County Sheriff's deputies cited Holmes with possession of marijuana, a spokeswoman told WWAY. According to the citation, Holmes was cited for having a half ounce or less of marijuana and drug paraphernalia at her home on Boverie Street in Shallotte. Danell Lamont McNeil, 31, and Damarius Dontrell Simmons, 21, received the same charges.

Officers said they found marijuana in the home, which led to the charges against Holmes and two other people at the house.

McDow is being held on a $6 million bond.

Money doesn't buy happiness; heroin does.

She should move out of North Carolina.

She should especially move out of Brunswick County, North Carolina - which is heavily Republican. She should not let them have any more of her money by living there and paying for their taxes, utilities, and businesses.

This sounds very strange.

Why would she want to continue in a risky and dangerous business if she just won 88 million??!!!!!

Because more often than not like many who win big in the lottery she's apparently a moron with little common sense. The records are full of people who've won many millions in the lottery then ended up penniless in a relatively short time.

Because like Tybee posted she has no sense.

Or she was into drug dealing, and addicted to opiates and using part of her supply long before she won the lottery.
