The Life of a Teacher

Hey there guys, I can't believe how busy I've been. This teaching residency is unrelenting. Every day I'm at at school by 7:35, school ends at 2:30, but most of the teachers stay until at least 4:00/4:30. My critic teacher sometimes stays until 5:30-6:00! That's too much for me right now. I usually leave at 3:30-4:00. That's at least 8 hours, enough (I think) for someone who's new...and working for free.

Next week my critic teacher (and the college) want me to start working on Fridays, too. So when you add up the hours at the school, including volunteering Saturday's at the Varsity football games and all the prep work at home-I'll easily be working 50+ hours a week. If only I were getting paid for this year's work-but, I'm very grateful for the opportunity.

The critic teacher I'm working for is incredible: effective, dynamic, smart-as-a-whip but she has very high standards. It's sort of like working for a big corporate CEO. ha ha

Anyway, she gave me an opportunity to write up a whole 5 day/10 class lesson plan for "A Rose For Emily" by Faulkner. Gosh, it is do much work!!! But, such an opportunity. I'm really throwing myself into this project. Plus I have my college class to keep up with and I need to be sure to have time to exercise and take care of my health. It would be devestating to back slide into CFS. But, I do not believe that will happen.

Things are going really good for me now. I'm happy and excited and my life has changed for the better. Sometimes it's a lot to deal with...but I'm dealing with it!!! :eek

It is an opportunity & you must be making a good impression on her or she wouldn't give you such an assignment. When I supervised interns, I gave the losers/slackers easy stuff to just keep them busy & saved the difficult assignments for the few who showed ability & were prepared to work hard. Don't let her down, or yourself either.
