CNN says 84 stories. Sorry. I wonder if it had a sprinkler system in each unit or the hallways. Was someone grilling camel meat in the hallway again? It may be selfish, but when I stay in a high rise hotel, I ask for the lowest available floor. Have a drink in the sky bar for an hour if you need to see the view. Otherwise, the 3rd floor looking onto the dumpsters is just fine with me. |

But why did it not turn into dust like the 911 towers? |

The WTC towers were built almost a half century ago. Many of the materials they had available back then are not even in existence anymore, and if they were no one would use them. This building was built relatively recently. Considerably different building methods and materials. High rise construction principles in most countries changed massively after 911. It would appear the main thing they did a poor job on in this building is their sprinkler systems. This is the 2nd major fire in this building. |

But when a big B52 bomber crashed into the Empire State Building(built in 1929?) in 1945 there was a small locally contained fire, the building remained totally intact to this day and it was business as usual the next day. http://www.history.com/this-day-in-history/plane-crashes-into-empire-state-building |

It was the "Torch Tower". That would have been my first hint not to live there.

It was a B25 that crashed into the Empire State Buiding. Considerbly smaller than a B52 and propeller driven as opposed to a jet propelled B52. B25 ![]() B52

that looks like really neat flight deck - wraparound floor to ceiling windows! We must visit Dubai, something we have always wanted to do and also to see if we take to Towel culture! Edited by Erna, Aug 4 2017, 11:40 AM.

I'd love to visit Dubai but a two week air flight from here is rather discouraging. It's like at the ends of the earth, isn't it? |

7 hour nonstop on Emirates, which is a superior airline. Price looks good if you leave this month. https://www.google.es/flights/?f=0&gl=es#search;f=BCN,YJB;t=DXB,DWC;d=2017-08-24;r=2017-09-04;q=barcelona+to+dubai We have a good friend who is an aircraft tech at BCN airport and works on Emirates planes, they fly that huge new Airbus that holds about 10,000 people,,the A380?
