Pepe is starting to suffer, not greatly; but it is noticeable

He is restless and uncomfortable at times, like now, due to what is growing between his eyes. He just ate his usually big dinner and we have a vet appointment for Wednesday, since tomorrow is another one of the endless fucking holidays here in europe.

We don't want him to suffer but it seems only now and then at this point. He is not crying out but the BCN vet warned us that he would become restless and uncomfortable.

We'll keep our fingers crossed the French vet will have something to give him to make him more comfortable. But if the discomfort gets to the point that he starts crying out constantly and the vet can provide nothing to relieve him I think that's when you'll know the time has come.

If he's not on his anti-inflamatories he may just be having joint pain.

Now he is having his after dinner snooze, which should last until final evening walk in a few hours. Thanks Tybee.

How did Pepe's vet appointment go? I've been worried since we haven't heard anything from you today. I've got my fingers crossed it all went well.

Thanks Tybee, we went alone to the vet and were pleasantly surprised. They seem to love the little ones more here than in Spain and also the prices are much more reasonable. I explained the situatia to the vet and he said "don't wait too long , don;t let him suffer". The vet suggested an anti-inflammatory and we bought 4 pills, 1/2 per day. We confirmed the euthanasia and crematia arrangements when the time comes. We want to travel by train to another country for a couple of days next week but are afraid if Pepe gets real sick while we are traveling with him. Now he is resting, having eaten his usual large dinner (steak, apple, organic kibble). He does not seem to be suffering but we are watching closely. He is occasionally mildly restless but that is the extent of it.

Hopefully the anti-inflamatories will relieve his discomfort in a couple days. It takes a while for them to build up in the blood stream before any positive effects are obvious.

But we are not sure that he is in discomfort, maybe we will start them tomorrow. He has eaten three big meals (fresh beefsteak, apples, expensive organic dry kibble from the health food store, all mixed together), and just had a good walk of about a block with peepee and poopoo. Now he is preparing for sleep in his dog bed.

You obviously don't suffer from arthritis. There are good days and bad days and that's why it's important to take the medication even when you're having a good day because you never know when you're going to have a bad day. The medication has to build up in the blood stream and taking it consistently keeps the benefits of the medication in force. If you're not taking the medication and you suddenly have a bad spell you're going to have to wait a few days for relief once you start taking it because there no medication in your blood stream.

Thanks Tybee.

We have never given Pepe anything like that over fear of long-term effects,,but now that hardly matters! We will do it.

Cimalgex, 30 mg, 1/2 tablet per day, it says it is chewable so it will not be a daily ordeal to trick him into taking it?

Pepe made a new video today, showing how vigorously he stood and attacked his lunch bowl.

He is actually getting heavier than normal.

Don't let him get too heavy. With arthritis he needs to be as lean as possible.

Thansk Tybee. Pepe is not the only one with arthritis we are afraid. It had been cool and damp in Paris the past few days and we had terrible pains in our knees. Today is sunny hot and dry and we have no more pain!

You have osteoarthritis, just like Pepe. The knees and ankles are usually the first to go as they go through the most wear and tear. You need to remember that when you go to the gym. Don't do anything that puts extra stress on your leg joints, so squats are probably not advised any longer. Welcome to elder status, it's all down hill from here. :lol

You need to buy a bottle of Aleve (generic name Naproxen Sodium) for those periods when the pain is the worst. When that no longer works you'll have to get a stronger prescription anti-inflammatory such as what I take (Mobic). If you don't want to take any medications you're going to have to learn to live with the pain.

Is Aleve Ibuprofin or Paracetamol?

This has happened before a few years ago but it went away.

But thanks Tybee

Yes, it is the same class of drug as Ibuprofen.

We had the same problem 9 years ago, people suggested getting knee replacements!
We believe we treated ourself with Mary Baker Eddy and the problem went away by itself.

Knee replacements don't come until you get to the point you have trouble walking.

It was so bad in 2008 that we had difficulty in walking, esp stairs - and we live 4 flights up with no elevator.

You probably have bone spurs in your knees and possibly some water on the knee. Those spurs tend to float around. When they're out of the way, not rubbing against anything your knee pain is minimal or non existent. But eventually they're going to move back into a position that causes pain. That will happen until the discomfort is continual. Then the time has come for a knee replacement.

Thanks Tybee.

Not only does Pepe devour his meals, two hours later he is up and waiting for the next one.
