They know full well that will never happen just like the idiot Stacy Abrams who is running for Governor of Georgia knows that her stupid demand they blast off the football field size carving on the face of Stone Mountain isn't going to happen. All she's done in insure that she will never be elected governor of Georgia by making such a ludicrous demand.

History is history. Just because the history is not to your liking you can't attempt to deny history by destroying the physical remembrances of it. There's no great demand from Jewish people to knock down Auschwitz or all the other Nazi prison camps. The vast majority of these people are just demanding all these monuments be removed because it gives them a sense of power over the people in power. And sadly, the people in power all too many times have acquiesced to these idiot demands.

The fools wanting Mt. Rushmore to be removed would really go wild if they knew the history of the man who carved it, Gutsom Borglum. He was the man who started the carving on the face of Stone Mountain outside Atlanta. It turned out after he'd begun carving that he was a KKK sympathizer and was attempting to stack the Stone Mtn. Memorial Assoc. board with KKK members. The leadership of the memorial association fired him, but before he moved on he and his men went up on the mountain and blasted away everything they had already carved and then hotfooted it out of town with the Georgia police hot on their tails. They crossed the state line just before the Georgia authorities were able to grab them.

Unfortunately most historians don't reveal much of that information. They soft soap it as just a "disagreement" between Borglum and the association which resulted in Borglum moving on with all his designs on paper with him.

That's a great point about the concentration camps, Tybee. They do serve as a reminder of the horrors that happened. Although one can argue that the statues are a celebration of dark period in our history. Moving the statues to more appropriate locations, like cemeteries where the civil war dead are buried and batlefields might be more appropriate. But I am against moving them completely.

My feelings on Mt. Rushmore are mixed. It was build on sacred Indian land, Sioux Indian, I believe, and much against their will. In effect the mountain was stolen from them.

My bad, it is the Lakota and not the Sioux who had the mountain stolen from them.

I see absolutely no point in pulling down Confederate monuments, and I say this as a very liberal-minded person.

Likewise.

The monuments only offend people who are out looking for a reason to be offended, and people who like to jump on the current rabble rousing bandwagon.
