We are afraid that the time is very near for Pepe; He was fine during the day yesterday, had a rather restless night and today not so good

He is eating as always but there is a little blood sometimes leaking from the left nostril and he is listless and sleeping most of the time. We will see what things look like tomorrow.
We must be like our mother, who is very strong and brave. She told us that she had to put down their beautiful schnauzer several years ago "Oh honey, I had to she was so sick" but she did not contemplate self-euthanasia over it.

He'll let you know when he's in pain that doesn't stop. Then you'll know it's time.

Thanks Tybee, we really appreciate your help on this.
He did his peepee and poopoo a few hours ago like normal.
When we came home just now (17:30) we were surprised to find him alert and expecting his dinner, licking his chops. He ate his full dinner of beefsteak/whole grain rice/apple/organic dry kibble. Now walking very slowly and cautiously around the apartment.

Last night we were talking on the phone a long time to our Fabulous Jewish AA elderfishsister here in Paris and Pepe got up out of his dog bed, came over and lay down at our feet, something he has not done for years. Today Pepe is walking around the flat and precisely at each meal time he lets us know that he expects to be fed.

I would suggest you give him some extra nutrition in the days up to Friday when you leave to drive back to Barcelona. He'll need the extra energy for that long drive. Also I would stop more times than normal to let him get out and stretch his legs so he won't be so stove up when you get to your destination each day during the trip. Those arthritic joints seize up when he's unable to move about freely.

Thanks Tybee, we are going on Saturday (the guardian here gave us an extra day of free parking) and will spend the night half way in the Dordogne in the town of Lot

LOT

We will take extra good care of him this time and also bring his dog bed with us.
Lot, reminds us of the story of Lot's wife. Good lesson about what happens to people who look back on the past. jesus also said "no one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for the kingdom of heaven", which means we think that living in the past brings misery, at least it does for us..

Pepe was good yesterday but started having a difficult night around 10pm, bed time here. This morning he was not up and about before we were at 7, stayed in his bed ut ate a full breakfast and has been sleeping in his dog bed for the past 2 hours. We are planning to return to BCN tomorrow noon so we are watching very closely what happens today.
He has been like this before and then had a sudden revival around lunchtime.
