Is Tybee Island threatened by Hurricane Irma? Local news (in Calif) is fairly hysterical about it all. Hope your home is OK, Tybee.

Thanks for the good thoughts. The Governor has issued a mandatory evacuation for all of coastal Ga. As of today the weather forecasts for my area (40 miles northwest of Savannah) are for hurricane force winds on Monday evening into Tuesday morning and torrential rain. If the storm tracks up through the middle of Florida I'm hoping it will lessen a good deal by the time it reaches my area, but if it tracks east just off the coast of Florida it won't. I'll get the storm shutters up Monday morning and just sit tight. As long as none of the 150' tall pines in my back yard fall over everything will be fine. But I imagine I'll wake up on Tuesday to a lot of debris that will have to be removed.

I fear for my old house on Tybee. I may not own it any longer but it was in my family from 1953 until I sold it several years ago. It's made it through 5 hurricanes in its lifetime, but Irma is much stronger any of than those were.

Thanks guys, I have little doubt the power will go out at some point. I'm just holding out hope the cell towers don't get damaged beyond use.

#3 what do the local weather folks say for your area? From the looks of things you may get a pretty strong blow from this storm too.

I wonder how they deal with evacuating prisons and jails. Or just put out extra food and hope for the best. Also nursing homes and mental hospitals. I noticed that dope Branson and Necker Island left his vast animal collection out to fend for themselves..... or at least that's what the DM reported. He claimed the flamingos knew how to survive.
