Why all the excitement about hurricane Irma?; Aren't these things over in a couple of days?

You have to go through one to understand. The storm may be over in a couple of days, but the aftermath can last for months, and at times years.

The local weather is reporting today that it appears the storm may track up the west coast of Florida instead of slicing up through the middle of the state. I'm hoping this will spare us the worst of it. Miami may be saved, but Tampa. looks like it is going to be right in the line of fire.

When we were in Hong Kong (a waste of time) last year we were hoping to experience a typhoon. No such luck. It was just miserably hot and humid - in November.

Hopefully they're in a highrise. Largo is on a sea level peninsula with water on 3 sides. That's not a place I would want to be in a hurricane.

I hope so. I've got a bum knee right now and dealing with a massive cleanup is the last thing I need.
