I'm waiting with baited breath! Very excited for a totally new and different computing experience. Every upgrade Windows has put out before has been just a big fat BLAHHHHH, IMO. Finally something completely new and different. And I understand directions on how to use most of the functions of W8 are hard to find. They're saying it's going to be a BIG learning curve for many people and is going to require a great deal of hunting and pecking to find out just what it will and won't do. I love that! Makes it more of an experience and more fun when I find something I didn't know it was capable of before. My calendar is marked for 10/26! |

Nah. Too many unsatisfactory reports to be even remotely interested. I own multiple machines running W7, Vista and XP, and don't have problems with any of them, so I say "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!" |

I'm up and running on Windows 8 now. The only complaint I have at this point is that there is a tremendous amount of switching back and forth between the old style desktop and the new Windows 8 desktop (aka start screen). And the switch back to Windows 8 when you're finished with a particular program or application is not automatic. I'm playing with the new Windows 8 start screen now, but I can see myself at some point just using the old style desktop 100% of the time. Frankly I can't see why they set it up that way. What's the use of designing a whole new OS and having it revert to the old style 200 times a day. I've already advised several people I know who are easily frustrated with their computers to just forget about upgrading unless they really have their minds set. To be brutally honest, I don't think this is going to be the cash cow Microsoft was hoping for. At least it's cheap and most people won't be pissed over having spent a large sum of money for the software. |

Here is my nerdy rant on Windows 8 and its place in my craw. I don't like Windows 8 at all. If that tile bit that Windows 8 has is here to stay, then I am swapping to Linux later on down the line, or I am buying a Macbook Pro. Windows has never been designed to be as intuitive as all get out. The whole thing with Windows is that you click around some and learn what is best for you and that is that. Having a tile be loaded up with the assorted whatnot you do most is not being intuitive, it is just dumbing things down, really intrusive, and it also makes it a great deal more difficult to maintain your p.c. |

I've been playing with it all day long (Windows 8 that is - get your minds out of the gutter! ). There are many things handled differently. Some better, some worse. I've alternated between "ok, this will be fine" & "what the fuck was I thinking about when I did this". As I'm learning how to do some of the things that were second nature to be on Windows 7 my mind is easing a bit. But, as of right now, if I had it to do over again, I wouldn't. Oh Liz, that new tile interface on W8 called "Metro UI" is basically the old start menu from the previous versions of Windows. Unfortunately they decided to not have a "START" icon always at the ready for the users. Now you have to drag your mouse pointer to one of the corners of the screen to get various things to appear. I like the new tile UI, but what I don't like is that so far I have found no easy way to delete items from "Apps" menu or even move them around to get them better organized. The place the W8 installation put them is not always the way I want them. Edited by Tybee, Oct 26 2012, 03:36 PM.
