Not that it makes a dime's bit of difference which one of these creeps wins, but just what do those odds mean? http://sports.ladbrokes.com/en-gb/politics/us-presidential-election/2012-us-presidential-race-e212304268 Discuss! Edited by Erna, Oct 20 2012, 04:12 PM.

If Romney wins, I hope it is a landslide. The largest margin in history. At which time, Americans can be reminded of the policies and Party they elected and overwhelmingly so when they bitch and complain with unhappiness. You got what you asked for. Dissolve HUD, EPA, legal abortion, return to gay witch hunts in the military, Medicare vouchers, phase out of Social Security, more tax cuts for the wealthy, ellimination of important middle class tax cuts (except church donations) and the elimination of many regulations that safeguard our way of life. But I fear at this moment in time, they will elect Romney. History repeats itself with Americans. They knew what they had in George Bush, I guess they seemed to like war and outsourcing of American jobs because he was soundly re-elected. It will be interesting to review this post on November 7. |

Governor Romney supports a federal marriage amendment to the Constitution that defines marriage as an institution between a man and a woman. Governor Romney also believes, consistent with the 10th Amendment, that it should be left to states to decide whether to grant same-sex couples certain benefits, such as hospital visitation rights and the ability to adopt children. I referred to the Tenth Amendment only when speaking about these kinds of benefits, not marriage." - Romney campaign adviser Bay Buchanan, clarifying to Buzzfeed that he still opposes all federal rights for LGBT Americans. Earlier this week a remark by Buchanan left the impression with some that Romney no longer supports a federal ban on same-sex marriage. Buchanan was the keynote speaker at GOProud's most recent event. And there you are Romney fans. Couldn't be any clearer than that. |

The Federal government must be forbidden from borrowing money. Once the Federal government is unable to borrow money , wars and inflatia would stop immediately and the American people would regain total control of their government. All Federal socialist programs, along with military budgets for standing armies and foreign wars, need to be abolished because they are not legitimate functias of government. If people want this stuff they should pay for it themselves, like we do. (Of course we don't go to doctors or have 'health insurance', so we save a lot of money, also we don't have public money to wage wars on faraway shores to advance our personal business interests).) But if people really want that kind of ca-ca they can pay for it out of their own pockets. Our feeling is that not too many people would opt to shell out for it. The Federal government budget should be reduced by 90% because less than 10% of it is a legitimate functia of government. Also, abortia and marriage are private matters, the federal government has no business being involved in any way whatsoever. But it makes no difference which one wins - they are both criminally insane. The same macro-program will continue: more wars, more taxes/inflatia, bigger federal government, less personal freedom. Unfortunately, Lady Campbell doesn't always realize that not everyone is as industrious and ingenious as she is, or that more often than not people born into poverty have a much harder time finding their ways out of it than those born into families of higher means. What she imagines, everyone completely self sufficient in a well paid job, self employment, or set for life with a lucrative retirement and able to provide for their own needs without assistance from any governmental agency would certainly be wonderful, but that is a world that never was and never will be. We can't just sit back and let people of lesser means or abilities suffer and die from neglect. Edited by Tybee, Oct 21 2012, 11:54 AM.

We have seen personally many many many cases - in the USA and Europe - of people on 'government assistance/disability' and every single case without exceptia was fraud. Perfectly healthy and able-bodied people who were working under the table for cash and/or traveling the world and having a great time of it - all on the tax-slavers' dime. When 'free' government money is passed out it is almost always fraudulent of it's very nature. |

Yes, you're right. Anytime there is money available from the government there is and always will be fraud. That's the nature of the beast. But because there are some who are crooks does not mean you should penalize or deny those who are not. It's exactly why (at least in the USA) they make it so difficult for people to get Soc. Security Disability. I helped a former employee and friend of mine several years ago after she had a stroke. She was left permanently wheelchair bound with the use of only one arm as well as reduced cognitive ability. She was denied disability on her 1st application which took over a year, and denied on her appeal which took another few months. I then found her a good lawyer and he filed for an administrative law hearing which was supposed to take up to 24 months from the day it was filed. Almost 1 year to the day from the final appeal the lawyers for SS contacted her attorney and agreed to approve her application. All told it took over 2½ years from her initial application. She is most certainly one of the people who is not scamming a dime from the government. Her lawyer told me that when people apply for disability they wait for several months before they even take any action on the application because they are hoping the person will either give up, or die. We knew a fabulous eldersister in Santa Monica named Selma. She never paid rent and always free-loaded of people and she tried three times to get SSI(saying she was mentally ill) and they rejected her. She kept 'working' at it for a few more years and finally she got it and began living a nice easy life on the taxpayers' dime. There was nothing wrong with her of course and no reason why she could not work, she just decided that she was too good to work! |

Right now that site has Obama at 4/11 and Romney at 2/1. I know nothing about betting. Can someone explain what these numbers mean? |

I'm not a gambler and know little to nothing about the process. But here's a site that explains fractional betting odds. And after looking over it I know I want to know even less about gambling than I knew before. I don't take chances with my money. http://betstarter.com/sportsbetting/Fractionalodds.asp Edited by Tybee, Oct 21 2012, 03:43 PM.

from what we understand, the top number is the likelihood that it will happen and the bottom number is the likelihood that it will not happen |
