I just bought some Jonagold apples. They're supposed to be crisp and delicious, but these are soft and bland. This royally pisses me off. There's nothing worse than a soggy apple. I want to slap the shit out of the produce manager at the grocery store for allowing this travesty. It's just totally unacceptable. Here I am eating a fucking soft apple and it's disgusting. I mean, it's the most vile thing on the planet. I cannot believe it. Has anyone else had this problem? Soggy apples? I'm going to switch back to Granny Smiths because they are never soggy, even though they make your jaws draw up like nothing I've ever seen. And to top it all off, the goddamn thing was so big that it wouldn't even go through my apple slicer. I had to cut it up with a knife! Which I wouldn't have minded if it hadn't turned out to be such a shitty apple. It's just so very disappointing...here you are expecting to sink your teeth into a nice, hard apple, and instead they go through it like a soft ball of pulp. It's just...mush. Disgusting. I can't even finish it, it's so awful. I'm going to just throw the damn thing in the garbage, even though I hate to waste food. |

If it bothers you that much, return them, Princess. |

If they're soft and bland I would slice them up in 1/4" slices and pan fry them in some butter, sugar and cinnamon. Mmm mmm good! |

Or bake them. Or use them in pre-prepared pie shell. I hate mushy apples too but if you can't return them, bake, fry or small cube them in stuffing with walnuts. |

Or pelt all those pesky trick-or-treaters with them. |

If the apples are soft, Mary OP, it is because they are OLD - next time buy fresher apples. |

That's right. Apples go mealy (or peffy as they used to say down here) when they've been allowed to sit around in storage too long before sale. They also say freshly picked apples can be mealy if the crop did not get adequate water during the growing cycle. You can test apples for quality by tapping the side of the apple with your fingernail. A firm fresh apple will sound hollow and a mealy apple will give a dull thud.
