Spectacular place to live. Beachfront seems a bit pricey but you seem to get a lot for your $$$. Simply beautiful.

I've been to Sea Island but that seems to be for the super wealthy.

Never been to Tybee, but I'm rather fond of Kiawah.

The island has a good mixture of properties. You can buy a decent fixer upper cottage for $175 thousand. And no matter where your property is you're always within easy walking distance to the beach. John Mellencamp (sp?) owns a big house not too far from my joint.

But it does get cold there, right? It's not all shorts, skin diving and tropical.

The houses they were looking at we're all in the $550-650 range but on a beach. Looked like huge homes considering the location.

Yes, it can get quite cold in the winter months. That's the only time I went down there and I got to the point I didn't even want to go then. The crowds are greatly thinned out in the fall and winter and IMO that makes it a much better experience. But I like cold weather. I can't take Tybee in the summer months.

I remember asking you all about Tybee Island over on the other board many years ago. In fact, I think you posted a pix or two.

Anyway, Sea Island was jaw-dropping for its beauty and opulence of the homes. I had dinner at a restaurant there and remember it as one of the best meals I've ever had. Beautiful area.

The whole area was fab. Jekyll Island, Savannah, Brunswick. Wonderful experience.

Sea Island is definitely for the big money crowd. But even it has not escaped the clutches of the economic downturn. The Cloister, probably one of the top 3 most luxurious hotels in the country was rescued from bankruptcy not long ago. Nothing has changed, but it was touch and go for a while.
