First and foremost, my parents (yes even my evil father). They've been gone so long now I've forgotten what their voices sounded like. But even after 20 years I still expect to get a call from my mother on Wednesday. All my friends who've died from one thing or another. There's only 3 of us from my old group left. Honesty & trust. There was a time in my life when I could actually trust many people I didn't know. Those days are long gone. Most people I meet now are clearly out to get whatever they can from anyone and everyone, by hook or crook. The times before the internet. As much as I enjoy the internet and all the benefits & conveniences I get from it I think it's one of the things that have hurt society as a whole. It has warped many people's attitudes about so many things. Before we had it life was so much simpler and less stressful. Yes, it was because there were lots of things we simply didn't know were going on, but unfortunately there are some things better just left alone, IMO. The times before cell phones. There were the days we all had pagers and they worked fine. I hate talking on the phone with a passion. Again, the benefits we get from cell phones are great, but the overall effect they have on our lives is not, IMO. Real TV news people. This lot we have now are mainly nothing more than professional liars and provocateurs who create fake news to build up their ratings. Writing and getting letters. Before email I wrote letters almost every day to one person or another around the world. And getting letters from friends in the mail was such a joy. Now we sit and IM each other any time we want, and it's just not as much fun. The anticipation of waiting for a reply in the mail is all gone now. The days before we took so much for granted. These days we "expect" everything. There's no joy in the unexpected anymore. And last but not least, the days when we were happy libidinous animals and didn't have to think about whether or not what we were doing would someday kill us. Edited by Tybee, Nov 9 2012, 02:23 PM.

Why does sex mean drugs for homosexuals like Mary OP? We have lots of sex - bareback - but never touch mood altering drugs or medicatias of any kind. |

As much as I appreciate the contrivances of communication and knowledge we have today, I miss the old school days. The days of being able to check your messages at a payphone. The days of having to take the time to look up something in an Encyclopedia or from an Atlas. I miss all that. Times were slower then. I also miss regular ladies shoes. You know. Nicely rendered ladies loafers or pumps even. I'm really tall so I don't wear super high heels. But, still. This... ![]() ... is almost the norm instead of... ![]() |

OT Liz, but there used to be a Sister of Perpetual Indulgence named Sister Sensible Shoes. I feel sorry for the fashionable ladies with the wierd syles they feel the need to wear now. I miss buying all my tennis shoes at the grocery store for $6.99. I remember the excitement to get the new phone book and see my name. Drive-ins for A&W frozen mugs of root beer and horribe hamburgers with bacon delivered to your car. Drive-in movies too. Yes, there is something to be said about the excitement of expectation over instant gratification. |
