Someone just posted a link to the arrest of "Prophetess Juanita Bynum." http://www.inquisitr.com/628516/televangelist-juanita-bynum-arrested-in-dallas/ And some idiot posted that they thought she was a fictitious character made up on DL, "like Patsy Ramsey"! How stupid do you have to be to think Mrs. Patsy Ramsey is fiction? Seriously, this would never have happened 10 years ago. [NOTE: This thread is NOT an invitation for a certain person to make it all about how DL's webmaster has cruelly deprived the site of this one poster's posts. We've done that. A lot.] |

How can the police arrest a Christian "Prophetess"? Wouldn't she see it coming and flee the jurisdiction? But, then again, Jesus saw His arrest coming and didn't flee the jurisdiction, wanting instead of commit suicide. Then, yet again, maybe Christianity is a silly hoax on gullible fools . . . |

If you hadn't made that statement, clearly requesting my presence, I may have overlooked the thread. But yes, this problem is symptomatic of the webmaster's psychotic need to control everything and rid the site of trolls. The constant banning and Primetime have driven away countless innocent posters for every troll eliminated. Except you've forgotten one thing. I use two different VPNs and have access to IP addresses all over the world. The quest to get rid of me is a failed one, as I post all the time there. Smooches! |

Rid the site of "trolls"? That's not what he does. He tries to stamp out any consistent challenge to his enforced ideology there. |

That too. And it has whittled the site down to almost nothing. Look at how many threads are just bumps from 2011. Pathetic, |

Yes, there are a lot of bumped threads. It's sad because there are some topics I wouldn't mind getting in on. But I can rarely post anything worthwhile without getting banned. It was fun for a while the day they released the photos of the bombers, but the inevitable "post rejected" showed up soon. |

I would love to know the age demographics of DL'ers. I get the feeling most of the posters are kids in college. And face it, these days many college kids have the life knowledge of a 13 year old of the 70's. I know many parents these days just let their kids raise themselves, but I wonder what many high school teachers are doing in their classrooms. It doesn't appear they're doing much to help the kids with their social skills, or working to instill some sense of interest in the outside world in them. |

I get a very different impression. From all the Judy Garland, Joan Crawford, Barbra Streisand, "Why isn't music as good as in the 70s?" threads, I think the DL demographic is mostly in the 50+ range. |

If it is then there are some seriously immature (if not demented) old timers on that board. Of course I rarely get past page 2 anymore. If nothing grabs my attention by then I'm out of there.

I dunno, all the comments on the recent Joan Crawford thread (that "Big Rock Candy Mountain" video) were well known quotes from Mommie Dearest. You don't have to be 50+ to know that. |

You have to be old to give a shut about Joan Crawford. And the comments were not just parroting Mommie Dearest. Most of them were quite funny. |

No, you don't have to be old to give a shit about Crawford. Our culture right now is steeped in references to prior popular/cultural touchstones. Every film references a dozen prior films or more, often older classics because TCM and easily-available DVDs made classic films so readily available. Now everyone knows Joan Crawford (and Bette and Ida and on and on). The reason that Big Rock Candy Mountain video went viral is not because just a "few old queens" care about Crawford, but because a large segment of the population of all ages knows who she is and knows the Mommie Dearest story. |

Meanwhile, in the real world . . . If you think it is common for younger people to even know who Joan Crawford is, much less care about her, you are crazy. |

I'm only 38 but have a fascination with old Hollywood. I'm reading a biography of Joan right now. It's called having a cultural appreciation for things that happened before 1990. Look into it. |

You guys might want to look up the demographics for classic film attendees, bloggers, people going on that TCM cruise, etc. There are a few silent film festivals around here, and I see plenty of late teens through early 30s there. Pretty much everyone in the retro/vintage lifestyle (including the bachelor pad hipsters) are early 30s or younger. I get not being part of that culture, but just flat out not even KNOWING about it? That's kind of weird. Seriously, if you've never heard of any of this, then you might want to reevaluate just who's out of touch here. |

Knowing history is important. But knowing stupid irrelevant shit isn't. I've heard of Joan Crawford, but as far as I know she's just an actress from way back. Most of those old movies (though maybe not all) were really bad anyway. I don't feel the need to saturate my mind with silly products from the entertainment industry and pretend it's relevant history. |

News to you: 38 is not young. Add to that: You seem older than your years. So you liking a bad actress from old movies isn't that shocking. Your false equivalency with history that matters just comes across as silly. |

People live into their 90s. It isn't possible to be 'old' for over 75% of one's life. One doesn't become old until their 70s. Only pedophiles see someone in their 30's as old. |

Yes, because the average age of gay men at death is well into their nineties! Doris Mann, former film star: "Oh honey, you're not middle age. I'm middle age!" Suzanne Vale, her daughter: Mom, just how many one-hundred-and-twenty year olds do you know?" |

Oh, what a shock! Your comeback was that "38 isn't young." I realize that. But it is far from being elderly, you sad, shallow shitstain. As for your next remark (which I'm sure you thought was a clever slight), I take it as a compliment. Most cultures appreciate the more senior members of society and hold them in high regard. Their experience and knowledge are appreciated. So being told I "seem older than my years" is an honor. Someone like you, who has demonstrated that anyone over 30 or any pop culture reference from before 1990 is beneath you, is not worth my respect anyway. Smooches! |

Oh, honey. I've been out exploring Paris all day with my partner and his family. Bumping those threads took all of five minutes while I was waiting for his mom to make herself pretty this morning before heading out. It's hilarious that's all it took to get you guys so worked up and that some of the threads are still at the top of the page. You all had the power to ignore them and they would have disappeared unceremoniously. But you never learn. I can understand why you think it's a bender, as that's all some of you know. But we don't all sit around all day getting blitzed in our mothers' basements posting on DL. Smooches! |

No one called Joan Crawford an artist or her movies art until someone hell-bent on proving that she was culturally irrelevant brought it up in their mini-rant. If you don't think films are art, or just that particular film, fine. I can't speak for PPSM, but as for me, all I've been trying to point out is that art is subjective, Western culture is vast, and a broad sweeping generalization of "X is not art" is short-sighted and ridiculous. |

What is this Hershey Highway you speak of? I understand the anal reference, however it isn't some culture or lifestyle. I'm 47. I have a husband. Do we live on the Hershey Highway? We don't consider each other old. A 21 year old might, but we don't hang out with 21 year olds, so we don't care to impress them. Do they live on the Hershey Highway? Have we been detoured to the Tootsie Roll Turnpike? We hang out with other people our age. None of us are considered old by each other. How is it that you think young people make all the determinations? Why are you so concerned with what they think? |
