Before Facebook, most people knew better than to call up their friends and say, "I'm have the best time! I'm at this new restaurant with friends who aren't you!" But now that we have Facebook, people think nothing of posting: "At dinner with our good friend Rick [and NOT 197 of the rest of you!]" |

Facebook, Twitter, and various other internet social sites are turning many of our kids into social morons. |

My niece doesn't watch television anymore, after realizing it was never about her. She now devotes herself 100% to social media. |

I am on Facebook and have used it as a way to stay connected with people after making major moves, but may be leaving soon. The whole thing is just a huge data mining tool to throw corporate advertising in your face. You realize that you are now only seeing a small percentage of your friends' posts anyway, and they see only a small percentage of yours. Facebook resets their settings to default frequently, to expose information you want kept private. But most people are such self-involved attention whores, they'll continue to put up with it (yes, I just said that). |

EXACTLY! I chat with friends and family all over the world on a daily basis through IM's. Some of them are on FB and Twitter and have tried in vain to get me to join. I keep telling them all I just don't care what they had for dinner last night, or where they went last weekend.

As someone who loves to cook for a large family, I actually get the whole sharing of dinners on social media concept. It gives ideas, you can compare nutritional info, etc. I also watch a lot of food shows on tv. I can see how it wouldn't be for everybody though. I also find Facebook to be much politer than the rest of the web, I assume because everybody's name and location are attached to their posts. My friend list is very small though, I confine it to family, extended family and the local LGBT community, some of whom I have not actually met but it's a good way to keep up on local LGBT news. Major gay websites can't offer that. My list is currently just under 30 people. I can't imagine any benefit of having hundreds of people you don't know fill up your wall with stuff. That would be a time waster like Twitter. |

I'm all for sharing recipes, especially when it includes images of the finished product. I'm simply not interested in reading about how wonderful someone's home made Tiramisu was last night if they won't even bother to give the recipe. Edited by Tybee, May 5 2013, 11:48 AM.
