Threads like this fry my robot brain. On the one hand, I find MPC an insufferable, racist, ranting, tinhat, pedophile apologist, loon.

But I also want to slash through R7's response with a red pen, and ask if English is their first language.

Sigh.

I don't think you have to ask. It's pretty clear the answer is "no." You really missed your calling if you're not an English teacher.

As for the thread "host," (LOL) the thing that comes through loudly for me is the hatefulness. Is "ornamental" hateful? Is it intended to be hurtful? Probably not. It seems like a trollish dig at PC. But what is the intent behind "fugly"? Is there any real point or value to it? I can't think of any. But there was something within the poster than generated the need to say it. What could that something be?

Whatever it is, it's not pretty.

It IS racist, along with his use on this board of the term negro. (And it's pointless even going into the misogyny issue here. )

Here's the science bit:

Antilocution scale (predjudice) http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antilocution

Antilocution is defined as negative verbal remarks against a person, group or community, which are not addressed directly to the target. Generally referred to as "talking behind someone's back," the impact of this is often overlooked. However, because antilocution creates an environment where discrimination is acceptable, it frequently progresses to other more damaging forms of prejudiced behavior. Allport differentiated between five degrees of prejudice, interlocution being the mildest of them

Interlocution can serve different purposes and expose different degrees of prejudice. In his book Allport juxtaposes two examples. In the first example, two ladies slip in remarks based on anti-Semitic stereotypes into a conversation during a social function. This creates a certain tie between them, as it shows that they share similar sentiments. Interlocution serves to form a tie, rather than to defame its subject. In the second example, it comes in a form of an emotional outburst that is irrelevant to the situation. Here, interlocution uncovers the high degree and salience of hostility. [1]

Its use is overshadowed by the more modern term hate speech which has almost the same meaning.

Allports antilocution scale: Allport's Scale is a measure of the manifestation of prejudice in a society. It is also referred to as Allport's Scale of Prejudice and Discrimination or Allport's Scale of Prejudice. It was devised by psychologist Gordon Allport in 1954.[1][2]

Allport’s Scale of Prejudice goes from 1 – 5.

1. Antilocution: Antilocution means a majority group freely make jokes about a minority group. Speech is in terms of negative stereotypes and negative images.[2] This is also called hate speech.[3] It is commonly seen as harmless by the majority. Antilocution itself may not be harmful, but it sets the stage for more severe outlets for prejudice. (e.g. Ethnic jokes)

etc.
