Back in September, I went to the North Carolina Zoo in Asheboro, NC. I took plenty of pictures and wanted to share them. Hopefully, some of you will find inspiration for exhibits, as I have.
My first batch of photos is from the Sonora Desert exhibit, a large climate-controlled glass dome containing a miniature desert environment.

I wish I could say I have been to lots of zoos before. I haven't been to many of them especially really good zoos, but this exhibit is very inspirational not only for zt2 but for real life applications as far as aviary ideas. Was it really hot inside or was it not too bad? It looks like the landscaping is good.

I'm glad you like it. It is pretty hot and dry inside the dome, exactly what you would expect from a desert exhibit. Also, I'd thought I'd mention that the Dome doubles as an aviary as well.

Yeah, it's a really great photo, but shouldn't technically be in a different forum? Since this isn't an ingame Zoo Tycoon photo? :-/

Sorry for the long wait, but I got some more photos to show. This next exhibit is Streamside, an exhibit showcasing animals that live alongside North Carolina's river systems, including Bobcats, River Otters, snakes, turtles, fish and owls.

I am hosting these photos on ZooChat, and was having issues with their uploader. But long behold, this is my next batch of photos.

Thanks of the comments!

This next batch is mostly for the Prairie, a large (11 acre) exhibit representing the American Great plains, and houses a herd of Bison and some Elk (who unfortunately remained mostly out of view during this visit). The large rolling plains are dotted with patches of trees for shade during the hotter months.

The last two pictures are for the Grizzley Bear and Red Wolf habitats. They each get their own enclosure.

Nice photos, Astrotom. It seems to be a nice zoo.

However, I'm going to move this thread as it is in the wrong subforum.

Greetings!

Great pictures but show us more animals :)

These pictures were taken with my Lg Optimus G Pro camera. While it takes very good pictures, it suffers when I use the zoom feature. Given the size of the NC Zoo's outdoor habitats (the Watani Grasslands alone is 37 acres), getting good pictures of the animals wasn't always practical. Nevertheless, I will upload more pictures of the animals themselves in the future.

Besides, I wanted to also get a bunch of pictures of the exhibit designs, as I am a fan of exhibit design. In addition, I was hoping these photos can provide inspiration for me and others for exhibit design.

I am not sure if any zoos outside the US have captive Red Wolves, given their dire conservation status.

It's been a while, as I am busy with college lately. But I have more pictures to show you all.

This next exhibit is a favorite of mine: The Cypress Swamp. Here, the wetlands of the American Southeast are represented in all their glory. Alligators, Turtles, Cougars, Waterfowl, Snakes, and assorted plants such as Flytraps can be seen here.

Sadly, the Cougar pictured above passed away this past January. However, the zoo has acquired 3 cougar kittens that lost their mother to a hunter in Oregon. The kittens are being introduced to the Cougar Exhibit.
