We've moved! If you're looking for a place to roleplay, check out a more recent venture: the Collective Isles.
It's another play-by-post forum roleplay like this one. The game is set in a multiverse full of life, magic, adventure, and its own brand of chaos. Players can even submit applications for their own worlds, adding to the scope of the setting.
There's no limit to character advancement; as long as you continue to participate, your character will learn and grow. Character development and interaction are as important to our community as the epic adventures which await. We're welcoming roleplayers of all experience levels, including first-timers.

| Welcome to Alpha Sanctuary! This is a roleplaying forum set in a fantasy world called Sanctuary. Players create their own characters, go on adventures, and participate in an overarching story which gradually shapes the world around them. If you think you might be interested, read through some of our content and submit a character application for review. We would love to have you! Before submitting your application, please register an account. If you're not sure what your character name is going to be, feel free to use something else until you submit your application. At that time, let us know you'd like to change your name, and we'll accommodate you. Using the same name for your account and character makes reading in-character threads much easier, so it's strongly encouraged. Refer to the newcomer's guide for help getting started. Enjoy your stay! |

In order to prevent the destruction of life itself, the wizards of ancient times created an isolated universe detached from their own. Those who volunteered to participate were cast into this new world in which beings of magic were commonplace and technologies once taken for granted were beyond their reach. Over the decades, the wizards of this new world - code named Alpha Sanctuary - discovered a taint in the magic field supporting it. An attempt to unify Sanctuary with its parent universe and prevent yet another catastrophe ended in ruin, and the tides of war erased records of the world's past. The taint, however, only continued to grow. Nine centuries after the separation of Sanctuary from the Elder Plane, history is catching up. Weary-eyed civilians perform grotesque murders in their sleep, guided by the whispers of a nightmare being. The mysteries surrounding a network of tunnels beneath the most prosperous city in Sanctuary sweep the world, drawing the attention of even Beregawn, eldest of the dragons. Rebels in search of the truth close in on the surviving tomes from the era of Maxidim Lydina only to find themselves ensnared by a secret society. In short, the world has reached its breaking point. Alpha Sanctuary is a play-by-post roleplaying game in an original fantasy universe. Create a character and participate in a deep, player-driven storyline. Dabble in magic, prove your worth in Lydina Arena, explore the farthest reaches of Sanctuary - and uncover the secrets lost in the flow of time. Advance infinitely, drawing on the talents of six domains. (Approval of a character description is required to participate.) New to Sanctuary? No problem. Here's a concise breakdown of reading material that will strengthen your character application and make your early days of roleplaying here as seamless as possible. First, read the rules. Important for applying as a new character: Attributes ~ Everyone gets 25 attribute points at level 1. Each attribute should be at least 1, and the total of all five attributes should be exactly 25. Domains ~ Everyone gets to choose one domain at level 1: life, death, order, chaos, magic, or power. Major Areas ~ Glance through this at least once. Then, after you pick your race, look at towns relevant to that race in detail. It may help with your background information. Races ~ Choose a race from the list provided. Different races are welcomed in different areas. If you want an easy time settling in, choose one of the races readily accepted in Godsreach, the largest city: human, wood elf, or true elf. Humans are welcome in most parts of the world. Money ~ Think of a copper coin as USD$1. Ten copper coins equal one silver coin; ten silver coins equal one gold coin. These raindrop or tear-shaped coins ("drops" or "tears") are valid payment in every city on the map. Recent History ~ If your character is well-read, he or she may know all of this. Events prior to year 306 are totally unknown to your character. Those with poor educations probably know even less. Armor ~ Try to figure out the armor ratings of your character's outfit. If you get it wrong, we'll help you fix it. No worries. Weaponry ~ If your character owns a weapon, find the correct die for it here. You don't need to know how the combat system works to submit your profile. Religion ~ (Optional) If your character is religious, he or she probably follows the Church of Maxidim. The most important deities in this belief system are described here. Rules of Magic ~ (Optional) This is useful information if your character already knows a little about magic. It's also a concise guide to understanding the magic system yourself. Book of Beasts ~ (Optional) When fighting a beast, the stats listed here determine the animal's accuracy, evasion, maximum health, and damage. Application process: Character Application Template ~ The character sheet. Fill this out according to the instructions, then post it as a new thread in the character applications forum for review. Character Applications Forum (In case you couldn't find it) Now what? Just wait, and we'll get back to you. If your application is approved, you'll receive a private message to that effect, and you'll find your character profile with the others in the appropriate forum. In the meantime, you might read the other threads in the Elder Library forum. Abilities for each of the six domains, enchanting guidelines for those with a talent for magic, guidelines for combat and a step-by-step tutorial for fighting, and the threads referenced above are all available here in case you need them. Note that there are multiple pages of threads in the library! We absolutely do not require you to catch up on old in-character posts. If you want to read them, however, feel free! It might help you get used to the system, setting, and characters. Get in the habit of reading through the profiles of characters you interact with. If you can't find the answer to your questions, post them on the general discussion forum or contact one of the administrators directly. IRC is a good way to get in touch with us. IRC Server: irc.rizon.net Channel: #sanctuary You can also send a private message if you'd like. We'll be happy to help! Edited by Sorai Kelldar, Feb 21 2012, 10:28 AM.
