Welcome to Alpha Sanctuary!

This is a roleplaying forum set in a fantasy world called Sanctuary. Players create their own characters, go on adventures, and participate in an overarching story which gradually shapes the world around them. If you think you might be interested, read through some of our content and submit a character application for review. We would love to have you!

Before submitting your application, please register an account. If you're not sure what your character name is going to be, feel free to use something else until you submit your application. At that time, let us know you'd like to change your name, and we'll accommodate you. Using the same name for your account and character makes reading in-character threads much easier, so it's strongly encouraged.

Sorai had passed out, after slipping on the torn off glory of a man, that Elita had turned back into a boy. She drove the cart a good distance away from their enemies, then tended to Sorai's stomach wound, and her burn as well. "Hopefully things will get easier." Elita said, talking to just the horses. "More guards will be around these parts. Heading out of the kingdom isn't always easy." After a short break, to feed and water the horses, Elita continued driving.

Now, it was nearly three in the morning. Stars were bountiful, filling almost all of the deep blue sky. Crickets chirped wildly in the chilly air. She had already taken some time to cover Sorai, and used her cloak to warm her legs. Near by was the sound of music, possibly a party on a farm. Her thoughts drifted to the time she spent with Demier in Godsreach. In the elven district, there had always been dances and festivals all year round. Music was always near by in their house. Demier had played the lute many a time for Elita, teaching her a bit as well. In the quiet, Elita began to hum again, still reminiscing.

Sorai's first thoughts as he awakened from the embarrassing wipeout followed a predictable sequence. What had he slipped on? What time was it? Judging by the sensation of power in his body, his magic energy had been restored. Had the book issued its response yet? He bolted upright and crawled straight to the white book in the corner of the cart, a small splatter of blood on the cover. Sorai wiped at it with a finger, but it had long since dried; he had to chip the dry crimson off the smooth surface of the book, and even then, it left a stain. Sorai flipped through Destiny's pages until he came to the latest where he had written a follow-up to another question.

What purpose does the scar-shaped light on the floor of the circular room in the tunnels beneath Godsreach serve? he read. Beneath it, the book had indeed replied.

It is the seal on the apocalypse key. Sorai scratched at his chin as he lay over the book. It sounded incredibly exciting, but now that they were so far away from Godsreach, he was somewhat disappointed. He could still prompt the book with related questions...

"Have you ever heard of anything called an apocalypse key?" he asked Elita. "That doesn't sound ominous at all."

"Morning." Elita said, delaying her answer. "I don't have the slightest clue on anything about an apocalypse key." The moon was shining bright again tonight, Sorai's face illuminated well enough by the light. "You look better. But, who wouldn't after slipping on testicles, and then passing out, leaving their female comrade to tend to their wounds, right?"

"Testicles?" Sorai asked, raising an eyebrow. He cast a questioning gaze at the cart's interior, particularly the area where he slipped. Some remnants of the bloodstains were still visible. His sword lay neatly aligned to the wall of the cart, but Sorai considered it a miracle that he hadn't cut off his own arm wildly jumping onto the vehicle like that. "Now you're just being cruel, Elita. I slipped on a puddle of blood left by that friend of yours." He closed the white book for the moment and set it aside. If more questions came to him later, he would forward them to her tentatively obedient pages.

"Never mind that... Who were they, anyway? Bandits?"

"No. There really was a penis in that." Elita stared at him, confused. "How could I make that up? I mean, I did it." She blinked, still not sure what else to say.

"Well, they started out asking me if I had seen their sheep, but I told them no." The horses kept their pace, the night carrying on. "And then they basically tried to assault me. Y'know. Woman alone in a cart." Elita turned her head, facing the trail once again, she fell silent.

Sorai climbed halfway over the lip of the cart and fixed his best adventure-around-the-corner gaze on her uninterested eyes.

"Missing sheep? Adventure ahead! About face! Turn the cart around - let's find those sheep!" He dangled perilously over the front edge of the cart bed with a fist clasped over his heart. "Then those dastardly fellows will change their ways and turn to the path of truth. Perhaps they'll tell us about the apocalypse key as a reward for finding the missing sheep." Sorai finally climbed into the front seat with Elita, relinquishing his righteous pose.

"On second thought, let's just forget about them and the genitalia the older one left behind. We have better things to do."

"Glad you said that. I was afraid I would have to knock you out again." Elita shook her head solemnly. "And I am starting to get tired, so I wouldn't have gone easy on you." After she spoke, she handed the reins over to Sorai and bent backwards in the front seat.

"You drive for a while." Elita flipped over the lip of the cart and fell into the back, almost in a comfortable position. "I just need some rest." She crawled onto the blanket that Sorai had previously been using and rolled up in it.

"By the way, if you turn this cart around, your genitals will be the cause of someone else's next black out, alright?" Elita stated, then pressed her head against her duffle bag. After a few minutes, she began humming softly, but falling silent once she fell asleep.

Sorai kicked back in his seat, devoting half of his attention to the dark trail ahead and the other half to the newly uncovered mystery of the apocalypse key. It seemed that this string of secrets could continue indefinitely with each step bringing him in some cases closer to the answers, but in other cases deeper into the awareness how little he understood. The logical next question would be one related to the function of the apocalypse key. They could find the door of the apocalypse, as it were, with Destiny at their side. Sorai began to consider that there might be several valid reasons for keeping such a thing sealed deep beneath the capital of the most powerful kingdom in the world...

"Excalibur," he prompted the horse. "Ride with haste! We have only a short few days of travel remaining, and then I, Sorai Kelldar, Author of Destiny, will be free to probe the depths of knowledge hidden away for centuries!" Oh, how he wished the horse could share in his wit.

After a few hours of riding, just shortly after dawn's arrival, Sorai spotted a set of opposing stone towers on either side of the trail. Around the base of the towers was a collection of smaller buildings, and several carts were lined up at the towers' crossing point. It took a few more minutes for Sorai to discover that the shining figures moving about on the ground were Lydina guards - armed to the teeth even compared to those stationed in Godsreach.

"Elita, you should probably get up," he called over his shoulder. He hoped she slept lightly enough to respond to his voice.

Elita sat up in the dark, the blanket falling off of her body. "What?" The sun had begun to rise now, being around six or seven in the morning. "Drove a pretty good distance, Sorai." Elita said, putting her boots on. "Slow down just a little, alright?" Elita pulled off her shirt, her bare skin obviously visible in the early morning light. She pulled her bathing suit top out from her duffle bag, along with her armor and got dressed.

After changing back into her normal outfit, Elita grabbed the blanket and laid it down flat, covering most of the cart's flat surface and hid the blood stains. Next, she quickly organized their belongings, stuffing the white book into her bag." and crawled into the drivers seat again. "You do have your birth certificate, don't you?" Elita pulled hers out from her coin pouch. "It will be tough to get through without it."

Sorai mustered a powerful laugh.

"I never carry identification," he declared. "I keep it in a box of important paperwork in my room at home." Then, frowning, he glanced back at Elita. "Maybe it's not too late to ride off the trail and hope for the best. Or perhaps they'll let us through without question when I tell them what an extraordinary adventurer I am." He withheld a teasing comment about showing them the steel of his legendary blade to persuade them.
