Welcome to Alpha Sanctuary!

This is a roleplaying forum set in a fantasy world called Sanctuary. Players create their own characters, go on adventures, and participate in an overarching story which gradually shapes the world around them. If you think you might be interested, read through some of our content and submit a character application for review. We would love to have you!

Before submitting your application, please register an account. If you're not sure what your character name is going to be, feel free to use something else until you submit your application. At that time, let us know you'd like to change your name, and we'll accommodate you. Using the same name for your account and character makes reading in-character threads much easier, so it's strongly encouraged.

Refer to the newcomer's guide for help getting started.

Enjoy your stay!

"W... What?!" Gertrude cried. "No! Please, don't leave!" Again, the older women restrained her from chasing after Crius.

"You heard the man," said Fellsing, doing the same as his fellow agent of the dragonkin. It took him a great deal of effort to climb back onto his goat's saddle. The circle of male villagers watched them until they disappeared to the north side of the blazing town. In a matter of a few hours, nothing would be left, he realized. The settlers would have to collect the nails from the ashes and move on.

Much further into the wilderness, they came to the edge of the Truestream. The river would serve as their guide until they reached the ocean's edge far to the north. The river was much too deep and too wide for their goats to cross safely, so Fellsing led them east until they came to a weather-worn bridge. The wilds along the Truestream were only sparsely populated, but bridges had been constructed by the Eigenblut Republic nonetheless to promote trade with the elves in the north.

"Such a shame we don't know more about the dream talker or whatever the dragon called it," Fellsing muttered back to Crius as they crossed. "Can't see how it would hurt to give us more information. We're putting our hides on the line to stop something we know nothing about."

"dragons are an old and powerfull race, they don't think like we do. to them we might be like cattle. i asume they told us what we needed to know for our task and don't want to tell more till they have seen if we survive or not. afterall you heard him didn't you, if we fail we'll be replaced. what i'm worried about is the dream, how could a dream force someone to burn down his own village, or what did he hope to prevent by burning it down? and the shadow figure is a mystery as well, there is no way it could be a normal dream since it repeated, and if it wasn't a normal dream then the words weren't his immagination but actually a languege he didn't understand. even if people don't speak it most recognize elven and merekin when they hear it, yet it was only described as a strange languege, so either they are verry ignorant about lands beyond their own, or it was a languege only few have heard before. either way it's a mystery, one we must notify the dragons about once we meet them again, regardless of succes or faillure of our mission."

Fellsing shared many of the same burning questions as Crius, but he didn't necessarily agree that the dragons had a right to their information. The mission given to them was simple: locate and retrieve an item called a tuning funnel. They weren't obligated to provide the dragons with feedback.

"Don't tell them unless they ask," he scoffed. "You'll just feed their illusion of superiority. I don't care how ancient or mighty they are." He reached over and scratched the side of his goat's neck. The animal bleated his appreciation - something he had never witnessed from the likes of dragons.

"About dreams," he grunted a few minutes later. "How often do you remember them?"

crius thought about it for a second, not just about how it really was but also how much he wanted to share.
"depends, after i asked the ancestors for guidance, i always remember them but then i'm open for the dreams. if i sleep normaly i hardly remember them, mostly i remember impressions that i can no longer turn into an actual immage nce i'm back awake."
crius slowed his goat down a bit and took the stick he had collected earlyer as well as the stone. rubbing the stone over the piece of wood he started cuttign away bits and pieces in his effort to create the bow.
"how much longer before we reach the dessert? and how long will we have to last through the dessert? we'll need to make sure to have enough fresh water with us."

Fellsing slowed his own mount to enable Crius to keep up. He scratched his chin as he contemplated the answer.

"That depends on which way we go. If we plan to ride through the heart of the desert, we can be there by tomorrow morning. It'll save us about a day's travel, so we can make it to Eyr in four days - if we make it to Eyr that way at all. On the other hand, if we follow this river downstream until we're close to the ocean, we'll only have to spend one night in the desert. It'll take us at least three days to ride that far north, then a couple of days in the desert before we arrive in Eyr." He picked a spider off his goat's back and squashed it between his fingers.

"Carrying enough water is something we can manage. The beasts of the desert are what worries me."

"the beasts of the dessert should be wise and stay out of way, unless you provoke them. but we should folow the river first i think, the less distance we have to travle in the dessert the less chance of gettign lost and thus fewer chances of encounters with beasts. we icrease the chances of beeing attacked outside the dessert but outside the dessert it's easyer to spend a few days on one spot to recover, although i hope it's not necesary. i wish the dragons could have flown us to a spot just out of sight of the city, i bet it would have saved us alot of time."
as they rode crius started to wonder what creatures they could come across in the dessert. surely scorpions, snakes and maybe jackals would live in the desert but those were only the common ones, he knew that there had to be rare ones as well, but creatures of the dessert was one of the topics he hadn't learned about, yet.

"The dragons could have done many things to save us time," Fellsing said with a scowl.

A short distance further ahead, Fellsing sighted a circle of hide tents. A fully grown human man sat just outside the camp with his arms around his knees, watching them approach. After a few moments, the man stood and waved his arms frantically. He had the broad grin of a child. Strapped to the back of his leather armor was a remarkable great sword. It didn't seem to have any kind of sheath or protection. Hearing the man's excited cries, a couple of spine elf women emerged from tents to examine Fellsing and Crius.

"Give me a break," Fellsing muttered. "We just got away from the last village of freaks." He pulled his goat's reins to the right, skirting toward the edge of the encampment.

"oh they don't look that bad, and nthing is burning, besides the sun. and who knows, if they are a caravan on their way to Eyr they could know a way through the heart of the dessert saving us time, and we wouldn't have to worry about takign a wrong turn at the first cactus we meet."
crius was getting a bit tirred of fellsings moody behavior, agreed they didn't have much to be happy about, but they were alive, and were on their way to achive things nobody had achieved before. besides beeign moody didn't help them one bit so why couldn't he just be cheerfull like crius? as he looked back up he scolded himself in silence, if he had time to complain then he should have had time to be allert of whatever was new to them, and this encampment sure was new, despite their friendly behavior it could still be a trap. 'never trust the first glans', it was the first rule he had learned in combat training.

Fellsing's patience with the wood elf's optimism had worn thin, as well, but he retired his complaints and turned back toward the camp. The waving man shrieked with delight and scurried back into the camp, leaving them with just the spine women.

"Have you come for the ceremony?" asked one of them. Her short, blond hair was held together in a ponytail to one side. The spine elf's playful smile invited them into the camp. "I'm Deysy, and this is Millgrane. Welcome."

"What ceremony?" Fellsing asked. Distrustful even among his own kind, he refused to accept the welcome until they explained what it was for.

"We're going to channel the spirit of our father in the deep beyond," Millgrane replied, bowing her shaved head. Fellsing glanced over at Crius for a moment, just long enough for Deysy and Millgrane to notice. They stepped aside and gestured for their two guests to continue into the camp.

"Please, make yourselves at home," continued Deysy. "We would love to show you."

crius was supprised to hear them talk about the deep beyond. despite what fellsing had said about the dragons not needign to know, he felt they would want to know, and possibbly reward them for sharing the information, and even if they didn't he wanted to know more about it himself. so he made sure to keep smillign as he replied
"and we would be delighted to watch. although we might need someone to explain it to us so that we don't interupt it in any way."
in silence he hoped fellsing understood what he wanted to say, that they would be able to interupt it when they desired.
