"Hammerhead?" Fellsing muttered, staring at Crius. "Oh, the guy with the hammer. What kind of sorry name is that?" He finished snacking on some dried fruit stowed with his travel rations and then climbed onto his goat's back. The animal stood once the spine elf's weight pressed into the saddle. "I'll ignore him even if they both come along. Neither of them interests me." "Wait!" came the hammerhead's cry from the woods. Before Fellsing and Crius could leave their camp, the pair of true elves stumbled into view. The swordsman's wounds had been poorly treated, but at least the bleeding had stopped. "At least help us take back our wagon," said the swordsman with pain in his voice. "Take it back from whom?" Fellsing asked, scowling. The swordsman and his companion glanced darkly from Fellsing to Crius. "A young ninetails crossed paths with us. There was nothing we could do except desert our camp. Now she's waiting for us to come back. I reckon it's her territorial instinct." "Not interested," grunted Fellsing. "Ask someone who cares." |

"a ninetails? are you nuts? you can't take it back unless you have a small army stationed nearby. the best thin you can do is wait for it to abandon the wagon and then take of with it." crius was tempted, after speakign with dragons, he wanted to see a legendary ninetails. he knew he was no match for it, not even if all four were in perfect health and fought together on their best day while the ninetails had his worst. but if he could just catch a glimps of it, he wouldn't have to fight it, and just in case he could use what litle was known about them to bribe his way out, maybe. not usign this opertunity would torment him his while life, but using it might end his life, what to do? "fine i'll take a quick look. i'm not going to fight it and i'm not even goign to try to take the wagon from it, but if the ninetails has left i will bring the wagon along. however, you two are dead, if you get in any fight now anyway. that's why i'll go alone, that way i can get away alive if it spots me." |

The green light surrounding Fellsing's body faded as he glared at all three of them - the two strangers for even considering a confrontation with a nine-tailed fox after their near-death experience with a common pack of wolves, and Crius for humoring them. He didn't want to be left alone in the forest, either. "If you're all going, I'll tag along. The only magic I'm going to provide will be for my sake. Lead the way." Obeying Fellsing's instructions, the two injured elves crept back into the depths of the forest. The spine elf followed them closely on his riding goat. The moment the situation turned sour, he would depart from the forest and never return. Like dragons, ninetails were beings with remarkable memories. One might say they were even more dangerous; after all, whereas dragons made their presence known to travelers in the Spine, the ninetails had always been as elusive as phantoms. Just a few minutes into the woods, they came to a stop beside a small clearing surrounded by forest. The elves' covered wagon had once been pulled by four camels. Now, those animals' bodies lay on their sides in dried blood. Flies buzzed at their open wounds. Sitting at the front of the wagon with its body curled into a ball was a small, yellow-haired fox. Its head was turned away from them, but the black tips of its furry ears stuck straight up as though listening for the slightest sound. Fellsing stopped his goat even before the elves leading them. "That's the one!" Hammerhead whispered with ferocity. Fellsing couldn't accurately estimate the fox's age, but the common tales of nine-tailed foxes spoke of beings the size of carts and small shacks, not little pups. He assumed this one had to be fairly young. "Why don't you go challenge it?" Fellsing snickered. "If you can wound it critically before you die, I'll get your wagon for you." He was confident they would fail. "It's not much use to us if we're dead," said the swordsman under his breath. He raised a hand to Fellsing and Crius. "We're on an important mission for the Council of Eyr. Isn't there anything you can do?" "We can sell you out to the fox and see if it'll let us have the wagon instead." |

crius sighed as he heard them argue, sems like fellsing had returned to his usual behavior. he jumped of his goat and took some of the berry bread he kept in his backpack. although crius didn't knew much about ninetails he knew they would addapt their meals to their surroundings, so it wouldn't be that rare if they ate berries. he just hoped the ninetails would react to his behavior the way he had hoped. "stay here and don't get any closer, i'll try something." he wispered with a tone that told of the horrible things he would do with the one that endangered his life by ignoring his request. with the bread placed on the top of his open handpalms he slowly walked forward while controling his fear as much as he could. he didn't stare at the ninetails but instead looked at the ground. when he assumed he was within 10 meters of the fox he knelt down and bend forward lowering his hands so the back of his hands touched the ground. then he placed his forehead onto the ground and waited. it was a verry bold move but by doing this he hoped to show his submission to the fox and meanwhile offer him a bribe. |

The fox's head perked up slowly. When it turned, its black and purple eyes locked on Crius. The fox's mouth curled into a surprisingly human smile. With the elegance of a forest wind, the beast hopped from the front seat of the wagon to the ground. Its landing didn't make a sound. Fellsing was relieved that Crius hadn't waited for a protective barrier. True, he had firmly warned that he wouldn't spare any mana for Crius' sake, but the undeniable fear that the nine-tailed fox might pick up his aura was enough to make Fellsing's hands tremble against his goat's neck - even without surrounding Crius' body in its essence. The elves waiting with Fellsing didn't comment on the display of foolishness or moving courage, perhaps a blend of both. The fox's nine tails danced in the air behind her body as she approached, rising onto two legs. Fellsing wished he hadn't seen the blood on her front paws. The fox began to change into a humanoid form, her fur fading from the surface of her body in several places. She stood nude before Crius with nothing but her long, blond hair to cover her body. Her fox eyes and ears remained unchanged. One of her tails curled around to delicately cover her pelvis. "Good morning," she whispered - too quiet for Fellsing to hear. The movement of her lips revealed fangs suited for slaughter and an impish air that could strike fear into the bravest of warriors. Fellsing was astounded Crius' body remained so still in her presence. Edited by Fellsing Aldataur, Feb 3 2012, 05:59 PM.

crius was supprised to hear a human voice so he looked up just in time to see her fangs. he couldn't help but look at her completly before lookign down as he closed his eyes for a second in order to regain controle of his nerveus, he didn't want his greetign to be marinaded with fear afterall. when he spoke his voice was soft and quiet, both because of his suprisement as because of she had started speaking with that tone. "and a good morning to you too. i hope i did not wake you, in any case if you would permit i can offer you this berry bread as a breakfast? the bread might be a bit dry but the beries should make up for that." as he awaited crius wondered why allmost all books concerning creatures like ninetails and dragons spoke of there might but not about the manners needed to greet one, or how to adress one. |

"My, he brings an offering of food," the fox chuckled to herself, pretending it wasn't obvious. She bent her knees with grace and gingerly picked the berry bread out of Crius' hands. She brought it to her small nose for an assessment of its scent before taking a bite no larger than the nails on her fingers. After sampling it, she took another bite, then another. Fellsing watched the whole ordeal from afar, hardly blinking. Time and time again, Crius defied his expectations. He was indeed a worthy traveling partner. "Your berry bread pleases me," she whispered, touching the tip of a sharp fingernail to his upturned palm. "Why have you entered my territory?" |

crius thought a bit about his answer, why did he come, when they arrived it didn't look like they would be able to get the waggon without fighting. then again her territory as she called it probably reached far beyond the open spot. "well to be perfectly honest, two elves had asked me to help them retrieve their waggon, which you seem to have been usign as bed. but that wasn't why i came here, i came here to see you, i know my stregth is nothign compared to what books say you have as strength, and judging from the elves their wounds, the books are correct. but i wanted to see the ninetails beauty, it's grace. and i must admit, you have shown me much more then that." |

Crius' comment elicited a playful laugh, much to Fellsing's distant wonder. "Then..." The ninetails retracted her fingernail and rose to her full height. "...You may take the wagon and depart from this forest. If anyone else appears before me, I'll tear off their fingers and make myself a necklace from the bones." The fox's smile widened a little at the thought. Her eyes focused on Fellsing and the pair of elves hiding on the edge of the clearing. For an instant, Fellsing imagined her loping toward them and ripping him open just like the camels. Though their near silent conversation was still too faint for him to discern, he understood enough. The spine elf held his breath. "If you return to my forest ever again, I'll mix your blood in your berry bread. Understand...?" |

crius swallowed at the threat made against his friends and then himself, seems like his words only had so much effect afterall, but at least he could escape alive this time. "as you wish, i'll refrain from enterign this forrest out of my free will from now on, but i might leave an offering of more berrybreads when i pass this forrest on my way back." with a swift wissle he called his goat and attached it to the wagon instead of the dead cammels. as he did he spoke softly again to avoid the other elves, all three, would hear him. "i thank you for letting me live, and allowing me to look at you from up close. but before i leave i would like to ask one last thing, would you happen to know anything about an hourglass-shaped item called a tunnel funnel, the draggons ordered us to find it?" |
