Welcome to Alpha Sanctuary!

This is a roleplaying forum set in a fantasy world called Sanctuary. Players create their own characters, go on adventures, and participate in an overarching story which gradually shapes the world around them. If you think you might be interested, read through some of our content and submit a character application for review. We would love to have you!

Before submitting your application, please register an account. If you're not sure what your character name is going to be, feel free to use something else until you submit your application. At that time, let us know you'd like to change your name, and we'll accommodate you. Using the same name for your account and character makes reading in-character threads much easier, so it's strongly encouraged.

Refer to the newcomer's guide for help getting started.

Fellsing tried uncovering the rest of the stone tablet on the altar, but there was nothing beyond the translated text at the bottom. He tried pushing sand against the wall to form a mound for them to scale. Aside from the sheer amount of time it would require, there wasn't anything seriously wrong with the idea. The narrow width of the steps descending into the temple's depths caused some of it to spill over to a lower elevation when he tried piling it up. He wasn't sure they would even have enough sand to accomplish the task... Having left their rations outside with the wagon, they were effectively trapped with no food or water and no choice but to wait for a sandstorm to bury the whole chamber. By the looks of it, they would need a few sandstorms, though...

"This is a real bind," Fellsing complained. "I knew I should've just sent you and the true Hammerhead down here. I could've hauled the funnel out with rope or something and left you here." He crossed his arms and glared up at the ceiling. There were no better options but to continue piling up sand, so that's precisely how he busied himself.

crius suddenly got another idea instead of helpign with the slope wich would never be finished in time, he started examening the walls he can reach for places he could stick his foot and hands in and use as handhelds to climb the wall. as he searched the walls he heard fellsings comment and couldn't help but smile at it.
"that's the fellsing i know, but i think i might be able to climb the wall if i'm lucky."

Fellsing mulled over his companion's idea. There were two ways to reach the stairs from the altar - climbing horizontally at the altar's level across the wall and climbing vertically from the descending platforms directly below. Indeed, there were suitable crevices in the sandstone walls to use for either purpose, but once those handholds crumbled, they would lose their chance. The distance was significantly greater than the depth of the pit in Graywalk... Considering his success back there, perhaps it was possible after all. He stepped onto his mound of sand and felt for the shallow holes in the wall. The base of the staircase was at least ten meters above his head.

"Try climbing across from up there," he called to Crius. The tuning funnel was cradled under his arm. "If you make it, I'll wait here with the tuning funnel. If not, I'll give it a try after you break a leg from the fall."

crius didn't bothered to respond to fellsings attempt to be funny. instead he took of his boots and placed them in his bag. he carefully looked at the wall and tried to plan his steps. but as he started trying he soon foudn out it wasn't as easy as he had thought. time after time he fell before he could even get halfway the heigth. after his 15th time he decided it would never work unless he was verry lucky, wch apperantly he wasn't.
"i give up this isn't goign to work unless i have 20 lives to spare."

Fellsing set the tuning funnel down in the sand and planted his hands in the nearest crevices to begin his own attempt. The first several tries ended in miserable failure, but at least he didn't fall far. As his falling distance increased, the spine elf decided a little insurance would do him good; he dropped to the ground to cast a barrier over his body before proceeding. Even with the confidence of knowing he would be protected from the fall, Fellsing simply couldn't muster the strength to climb the whole way. He spent a full twenty-five minutes working at Crius' hopeless idea just because it was slightly less hopeless than his own. Once, he made it within a meter of the stairs only to fall straight back to the ground, shattering his barrier. The end result was the loss of all his magic power and a few handfuls of crumbled sandstone at his feet.

"Told you it wouldn't work," he said with a scowl. He hadn't, of course, but he resented Crius for getting his hopes up. "Why doesn't this godforsaken temple listen to us anymore? It granted our request before. Isn't this a time of need?" He kicked the wall, stubbing his toe in the process. With a bout of fury, he shouted at the building itself. "It's just to spite us, isn't it?! It's just because we took your hourglass, isn't it?!"

crius slapped himself on the forhead as he heard fellsing yell out to the temple.
"ofcourse how could we be so stupid, the hourglass is an object of great magic isn't it? then that must have been what was powering this whole structure. maybe if we return it we could get out of here. and with the three goats and one persone outside we should be able to pull the persone that was left inside up after he's taken the hourglass ofcourse. i'm pretty sure i saw some rope in the wagon when i trew the money at the hammerhead."
without waiting crius ran towards the nearest torch he could grab and with a fireball he lit it. he took the hourglass that was left at fellsings feet and started walking back into the depts. as soon as he placed the hourglass on the pedestal the mysterious light returned and crius hurried back up to avoid gettign stuck on the inside if fellsign had lost the last of his patience.

Fellsing glowered at the stone tablet sticking out of the sand. To think that anyone would install such a pointless trap... When Crius returned to the altar, he wasted no further time.

"Spiteful spirits!" he called with an air of sarcasm. "Let us out! We're sick of this place!" Responding to his plea, the floor of the temple began to close again, burying the chamber beneath them with the sand. Fellsing herded the bleating goats back up the stairs, but once Crius demonstrated that he could handle their livestock, he descended to the altar again.

"I'll get the dragons' bloody trinket..." he said, scowling. "You'd better not try anything foolish."

He beckoned the temple to open the way to the tuning funnel once more. By the time Crius reached the top of the spiral staircase, he had already started on his way back down to the lower chamber. While he was down there, he kicked the dead elf in the face for good measure. Fellsing returned to the altar with the hourglass in his hand.

It all seemed so simple after Crius blurted out the problem. He supposed his companion was worth something after all...

After being hauled out of the temple's trap, Fellsing made haste toward the entrance. It was a wonder he didn't cause the whole staircase to collapse in his impatience. The moment he emerged into the sunlight - now painful in its desert intensity - he turned and spat in front of the concealed temple. Fortunately for Fellsing, the temple had been robbed of its power source; it couldn't spit back.
