Prepare Yourself For...

In light of Madonna French-kissing Drake on stage at 2015 Coachella, there have been many people joking about it, and some are mentioning Madonna's age.

Maybe I will be wrong about this, but I suspect in the next hours (or starting in the next two days), at least three or four lady journalists (and it's almost always lady writers who write this stuff for some reason) will write barfy op-eds telling everyone to lay off Madonna already.

They will write their editorials telling the rest of us how empowering it is for a 50 something Madonna to snog a 28 year old man.

And how dare we get upset about it, or get critical.

And how ageist we are to make Granny jokes about it.

And how nobody gets upset when Keith Richards sucks face with a 28 year old on stage (even though I don't recall him ever doing so).

So brace yourself.

I can about guarantee that in the hours or days to come, some writers, especially at British papers (it's usually British papers that publish this stuff, for some reason), will start spewing out things like, "you go Madonna, don't you apologize for being 56 and kissing a 28 year old, society needs to accept that 56 year old women can suck face with a 20 year old if she wants!!" type editorials.

Sometimes, these types of papers appear immediately after Madonna does whatever stupid or profane thing she's done, but sometimes, I've seen it take a day or two before they start to trickle out.

I will be very surprised if we don't see at least ONE token "you go girl!!" type paper in support of Madonna within the next five days.

Edit.
If you happen to come across these types of editorials today or within the next several days, feel free to post examples to this thread:
Age: The Old "Ageism" Defense - Same Old Garbage

I agree! I can't believe how many wimpy chicks and guys are doing the "poor Madonna" spiel. She looked like Kid Rock with a melted face mouth raping Drake. Even Drake is now saying "it was her gnarly lipstick." It was clear he was disgusted and embarrassed! Thankfully THOUSANDS of people are grossed out and not holding back , most under 30. :) The disc is still dropping down to fall back out of all genres Itunes too. No momentary boost like the Tonight Show. I guess now ANY music event she is going to show up at and be an attention whore trying to cling to younger public figures. She will now do ANYTHING to get attention now because she has no choice.

I posted a bunch of links about her Drake kiss over in the Desperate To Remain Raunchy thread.

Either Music Man or another board member got the ball rolling by posting a link about it there earlier today.

I'm not sure which account you saw, but in the paper I saw (maybe from TMZ??) where there was discussion about lip stick being the culprit of his barf face  after she kissed him, the paper quoted "a source close to Drake."

So, who knows how true or accurate that is.

Speaking of melting faces:

Indiana Jones Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981) - Face melting Scene *Full HD*

Wizard Of Oz - ''I'm Melting'' HD

Anyhoo, I will be awaiting the obligatory, single (or possibly 2 or 3), token "Leave Madonna alone, she's a feminist pioneer for sucking on Drake's face!" editorial(s) in the hours or days to come.

The entire "Keith Richards never gets made fun of" spiel is also misbegotten. For staers the Rolling Stones are mocked all the time including "Night of The Living Dead at Glastonbury" No one in the band has had any plastic surgery nor do they dress badly in teen clothing. In fact Charlie Watts, Mick, Keef etc REALLY have classy great taste in clothing. If Madonna was called "Night of the Living Dead" or something similar there would be a huge out cry about ageism especially from faux feminists . The Stones have never taken off their clothes in public because they don't need to. Jagger did a few sexy moves onstage and even performed with a blow up phallus in the 70s but his act is not about you seeing his private parts. Also the Stones on ONE TOUR welcomed younger artists onstage to celebrate over fifty years, they do not incessantly court, record with, mouth rape and need to be cross promoted with younger artists. Honestly? There is ZERO comparison between these Rock legends who have 20 plus years on Mangey Mad and who can still sell out stadiums while she has had to scale back the size of her venues. No way in **** will she be selling out huge arenas in her 70s. By then she will be long forgotten.

Oh, I agree with most all of that. I have no idea if she will be washed up at 70 or not, but I agree with the rest.

(edit. I mean, I think she is already rather washed up, but I've no idea if people would still want to see her tour when she is 70.)

The reactionary, pro-Madonna editorials (concerning her age or gender) usually follow the same talking points:

-It's empowering for a 50 something Madonna to snog / date / marry a much younger man

- And how dare anyone get upset about it, or get critical about it.

-And how ageist we are to make Granny (age related) jokes about it.

-And we will get scolded because nobody gets upset or repulsed when Keith Richards [or insert the name of almost any other over- the- age- of- 40- male celebrity]

a. sucks face with much younger person
b. dates
or
c. marries someone ten or more years younger

(I have a thread in the Cranky Fans forum called "Ugly Man" thread where I have been copying links to articles the last few years of the media criticizing men for their appearance (being too overweight, being bald, having bad cosmetic surgery), or for being too old to date some actress or another.)

Their editorials (the ones that defend Madonna) always follow the same blueprints.

It's as though some newspapers have pre-written Madonna articles, where all the journalist has to do is fill in the blanks with a few nouns and adjectives.

Kind of like this:

Fill In The Blank, Pre- Made, Defensive Madonna Editorial

In this day and age,
___[fill in the blank here with either the phrase "anyone over the age of 35" or "women"]___

should be commended for
___[fill in the blank with whatever activity] ___,

so our [circle one: ageist / sexist] society should offer support in Madonna in this endeavor.

That we, in the year [insert year here], are still shaming a [fill in the blank with one of the following: -woman- or -person over the age of 35-] ________

for daring to be [circle one: sexual, sexy, wearing sexy apparel, being outspoken, dating a person ten or more years younger, displaying a nude body part in public] says a lot about how [circle one: ageist / sexist] our culture still is.

We all should honor Madonna because of her past successes. Love her or hate her, that she was once a trail blazer in 1985 gives her a pass to do or say any stupid, bold thing now in [insert year here].

--------------
Note: it is almost imperative that journalists use one or more of the cliches associated with Madonna when writing these things, such as, "Love her or hate her, you have to admit that Madonna..."
(we have examples of such phrases in the forum's "Cliche" thread)

I think you are right in your prediction Flea.

Here's the deal with all this ageism BS. If someone like Madonna is truly trying to fight against ageism, she would be proud to look like a 56 year old woman. Instead, she is doing everything possible to look and act like a 25 year old. By trying to look 25 instead of 56 she is conceding that younger is better. She doesn't want to look like a woman in her 50s, so who is the real ageist here? It's Madonna of course. She is the one trying to desperately fight the aging process. So she is the true ageist. If Madonna really wanted to fight against ageism she would be trying to show people that you don't have to look like and act like a 25 year old sexpot in order to produce quality music. She would be emphasizing her supposed musical talent instead of her body (sorry to break it to you Madonna but the laws of the universe dictate that human bodies do lose sex appeal as they age. There are no "hot" 90 year olds out there). So if Madonna & her fans want to fight against ageism, they should be getting people's attention off the sex and body parts and on to Madonna's supposed craft which is music. They are all actually hypocrites, constantly decrying "ageism" as Madonna tries to make herself look younger and her fans say "oh she's so beautiful, she looks 25 years younger!" In other words, it's supposedly a good thing that Madonna doesn't look 56. So they are the ones guilty of ageism for implying there is something wrong with a person in their 50s who looks their age.

She is not fighting ageism, she's fighting to gain some relevance in the new media...and losing big time.

Another cliche is "you have to admit she's a great mom." Well the Stones are all great parents too with very successful children and millions of other parents have kids who are doing well.

If I had a dollar for every poster on TMZ & other boards who think Drake is queer because he recoiled from that kiss, I'd quit working & open my own small business.

Shoot, see the comments on Dlisted, some of them think Drake's a "b" and all. My opinion on Drake has changed from weeks ago. Looking at the "kiss" again, I realize how much of a sexual harasser Madonna has been (and I know she was before) but this totally confirmed it.

Madonna has a very cold personality, maybe it turned Drake off. There's no passion in her.

Can't link to it now but The Atlantic claims "Madonna is challenging ageism" with a thinly veiled Barfy butt kissing piece which makes all kinds of false claims ("Madonna's videos were cultural landmarks that challenged us to discuss racism and music") and incredible lame quips. Can't link here right now but it is the first of the bad media damage control pieces until the fake UK feminists get going in The Guardian. The author clearly seems like a huge fan trying to hide it.

Spoke too soon. The Telegraph has two Barfy butt kissing dour frump fake feminists defending her alongside a woman who disagrees. Closed for comments. The UK press is so stupid when it comes to Mange. They seem to have journalist's remorse for building her up in the noughts and now can't bear to admit this human pile of refuse is just that so they keep looking for some defensive angle to apologize for her.

All I can say is that the authors who write pieces like these are either too young to remember the 1960s or 1970s or they are intentionally lying. Madonna did not start the national discussion about racism. Martin Luther King started that conversation and since then racism has been discussed to death (I'm not saying racism no longer exists, but to say it wasn't being discussed until Madonna came along or that she somehow pushed it forward in an important way is ludicrous). I could state numerous examples of racism being discussed in pop music songs from the 60s and 70s long before Madonna. One example is "Everday People" in the late 60s. The media keep repeating all these myths about Madonna like she started every left wing cause out there. It's the same argument they make about feminism and how Madonna knocked down barriers for women to be sexual in pop music. Again, that's a myth. Blatant female sexuality in pop music started in the 1970s with other women pop stars. Madonna came along and grabbed the baton from others who broke down barriers and then claimed the credit for herself (or the media did it for her). Madonna did not effect any cultural movements except to make our entertainment culture even more coarse and raunchy (but the coarseness was already well under way before she came along). That's it. She has done NOTHING to move the culture forward in a positive way.
