IMO 16,000 sq ft is way too big for anyone to live in. Most people would be happy and find life easier with something like 1500 - 2500 sq ft.

Madonna Moves to Portugal and Reportedly Buys 18th Century Moorish Revival Mansion Near Lisbon
  • by Mark David

    BUYER: Madonna
    LOCATION: Sintra, Portugal
    ASKING PRICE: €7,500,000 ($8,927,470)
SIZE: 16,146 square feet, 4 bedrooms, 7 bathrooms plus guesthouse and caretaker’s cottage

YOUR MAMA’S NOTES: Madonna announced over Labor Day weekend, via her selfie-heavy Instagram account, that she’d done packed up, picked up and moved to Portugal where word on the Iberian Peninsula celebrity real estate street is the 59-year-old Material Girl purchased the historic Quinta do Relógio estate in the picturesque hilltop village of Sintra. The asking price for the property was €7,500,000, an amount that converts to $8,927,470 at today’s rates.

About 20 miles outside of Lisbon, the approximately 5.5-acre estate is anchored by a grandiose 18th-century Moorish Revival-style mini-palace of more than 16,000-square-feet designed and built in 1865 by architect by Antonio Manuel da Fonseca.

The colossal, quirky and elaborately embellished four-story residence, with four bedrooms and 7 bathrooms, is not currently habitable but, according to listing details, has had substantial structural work, including the addition of steel supports and shoring up of the 150-year old stone foundations.

It will take a few years and no-doubt many millions of dollars to properly renovate, restore and update the main residence, where in the late 1800s the then future king of Portugal, D. Carlos de Bragança, and his bride, Maria Amélia, spent part of their honeymoon.

However, the still bawdy, brash and gleefully rebellious international pop star can settle into the property right away if she so chooses since the estate additionally includes a secondary residence of around 4,700-square-feet that was extensively and luxuriously refurbished by Portuguese architect Thiago Bradell.

There’s also an approximately 1,110-square-foot caretaker’s cottage. The estate’s gardens were designed in a “romantic style” according to marketing materials with a small lake, several springs and fountains, and lush vegetation that includes rare specimen trees such as centenary oaks, cedars and palms.

Madonna, still churning out high-octane pop ditties and with a net worth estimated by the bean counters at Forbes to be in the impressive vicinity of $580 million, has long made her primary home in New York City.

Because Madge still wants to live large, invest invest invest, have huge noisy parties & keep getting attention. If she can't be worthy of being called QUEEN, how will she keep living?

She is house hunting (mansion hunting?) in Portugal.

I thought she had already bought a house there, but these articles say no, she is looking for one to buy.

There's photos on one page of her looking at a large home that is a bright orange color. I would not want to live in a big, boxy orange-color house myself.

Madonna is pictured viewing a £6.8million house in Lisbon as she continues with plans to relocate to Portugal

She's a Material Girl! Madonna looks undeniably chic in an all-white ensemble and fedora hat as she eyes up sprawling £7million mansion while house-hunting in Lisbon
  • She's a doting mother to six children and is happily focusing on building her family life out of the limelight.

And Madonna, 59, looked undeniably stylish as she was spotted eyeing up a £7 million sprawling mansion in Lisbon, Portugal.

The American superstar, who is currently residing in a hotel, proved to be sensational in a chic all-white ensemble and a funky fedora hat as she paid the lavish building a visit to see if it would fit her future needs.

Clearly with enough cash to spare, Madonna was on a mission as she headed out for her house hunt.

The Material Girl hitmaker embraced summer chic in a crotchet white top and airy wide-leg trousers.

As usual, the Daily Mail is one of her biggest buttkissers/kneepadders on earth.

Sure hope she'll donate to our hurricane funds. After Flint, though, I wouldn't hold my breath. Why would she want to help us tragic Americans now when she can take advantage of a withering European nation?

Madonna 'moves into 18th Century Lisbon palace complete with heated swimming pool and 12 rooms and suites' after relocating to Portugal
  • Jan 9, 2018

Madonna has reportedly moved into an 18th century palace in Lisbon.
The pop star is said to have hired a palace for a year with first option to buy it if she and her family have adapted to life in the Portuguese capital after the 12 months are up.

The 58-year-old New Yorker and her children were previously staying in a luxury Lisbon hotel after relocating to the European city to support 12-year-old son David's football career.

The palace and townhouse, has since been refurbished into a boutique hotel that boasts 12 rooms and suites, and whilst staff declined to comment on whether Madonna had made the place her residence, they confirmed it was 'impossible' to take any bookings at the moment for any of the rooms.

Portuguese magazine Flash reported the singer ordered in seven roasted chickens, rice and potatoes for herself, her children and staff on Monday at the residence.

Shortly afterwards two of Madonna’s bodyguards were said to have left the palace to pick up her 11-year-old daughter Mercy from school
Some work is believed to have taken place at the property, with highlight features including a heated swimming pool in the shade of a huge palm tree in the garden, before it ceased functioning as a boutique-hotel.

MailOnline has contacted Madonna's representatives for comment.
