Madonna, Hyde Park, London – review- Alexis Petridis
guardian.co.uk, Wednesday 18 July 2012 05.24 EDT
Madonna looks out from the stage and takes in the sight of central London at the height of summer. With a certain inevitability, the sky looks like it's been cast in concrete and it's tipping down. "Maybe," she suggests gamely, "if we put our minds together we can stop it raining."
The crowd cheer damply, but it's hard to avoid the conclusion that the weather is fairly low down on the list of problems with the London debut of the MDNA tour. Our economy may be tanking, our global influence ever diminishing, but when it comes to standing around in the rain at outdoor gigs, the British remain the undisputed world leaders.
The real issue here is the sound, or rather lack of it.
As if to demonstrate to Bruce Springsteen fans that their decision to pull the plug on him was nothing personal – they're fully equipped to ruin gigs by pop stars as well as venerable rock legends – the authorities have set it at a volume so feeble it sounds less like a live performance than something being sodcasted through the internal speaker on a mobile phone.
It's a peculiar sensation, watching a woman who's clearly busting a gut up there – waving a gun around, pretending to dispatch assassins, being trussed and gagged by her backing dancers, at one point actually walking a tightrope – to a literally muted effect.
She makes a little speech about the dangers of discrimination and prejudice. It's clearly hugely well-intentioned, the kind of thing that would ordinarily get everyone cheering and punching the air.
Alas, thanks to the sound issue, its reception in the crowd is weirdly reminiscent of The Sermon on the Mount in Monty Python's Life of Brian: "What did she say? Blessed are the cheesemakers?"
The inaudibility is not Madonna's fault, but it's compounded by her choice of material.
When she performs Vogue or Express Yourself – the latter interpolated with a burst of Lady Gaga's Born This Way that you might mistake as a respectful nod until she follows it by singing "she's not me, she's not me" while exposing her left buttock to the crowd – the sheer power of the song manages to transcend the weediness of the sound.
But the show is bullishly heavy on the recent, and decidedly so-so, MDNA: its tracks make up nearly half the set.
In addition, the hits that do turn up have frequently been faffed about with in a way that speaks less of brilliant reinvention than an innate misunderstanding of what their original strengths were.
She performs Like a Virgin as an agonisingly slow torch ballad. As she sings it, a man appears behind her and starts yanking at the laces of her corset as if trying to pull her offstage, giving rise to the fear that he's a representative of Westminster Council's environmental health department, taking residents' complaints about noise into his own hands. But no, the gig goes on, to a finale of Like a Prayer: the sound – albeit muffled – of Madonna playing to her own strengths.

If Madonna's Hyde Park concert was a taste of Olympic chaos, I'm getting out of London now - By Andrew Pierce
PUBLISHED: 13:23 EST, 18 July 2012 | UPDATED: 13:43 EST, 18 July 2012 ‘Like a virgin,’ trilled Madonna in her open air concert at Hyde Park. I was the virgin too. My first open air pop concert….and my last.
The world’s most famous female vocalist was a mere speck on a far distant stage. You could hardly see her. There were not enough screens. And the wretched woman sang only a handful of the songs we had paid £80 to hear. Holiday, Lucky Star, Ray of Light featured in five second flashes and Papa don’t preach barely two minutes.
Not that we could even hear that well as the volume control was so mixed. It’s why all around me conversations broke out as people were clearly bored, frustrated and restless. It was also a great commercial rip-off - no doubt a curtain raiser for the Olympic Games.
Those of us who had organised a picnic were dismayed to have our wine confiscated as our bags were searched. Bottles of bubbly were also kept back by the over zealous security staff. Do you think they work for G4S?
My bottle, I insisted, was emptied on to the park to the evident fury and disappointment of the burly woman security guard, who could have done with a shave, and who clearly was looking forward to drinking my bottle of chilled chardonnay.
To quench our thirst we were forced into an airport style queue for warm miniature bottles of white wine with no ice at the cash only bar. A jobsworth rampaged up and down bellowing instructions into a megaphone which neither the customers, let alone the bar staff, could understand. He sounded almost as garbled as Madonna. It’s why hundreds of fans were streaming home long before the end. And then of course we had to endure the usual nightmare journey home on the tube.
I think I’ve seen a glimpse of London 2012 – it’s why I might just be joining the great exodus out of London.

This is a negative review (though I do not share his assertion that Gaga ripped off Express Yourself):
Madonna, Hyde Park, London / Wanda Jackson, Islington Assembly Hall, London - July 22 2012
Simon Price
There's no contradiction between being a dreadful human being and a fantastic pop star. It's just a shame that Madonna, who sealed her status as the former six years ago by wearing a coat made of 40 factory-farmed chinchillas, is so rarely the latter.
The one-woman chinchillocaust brings her MDNA tour to London – oh, the desperate controversy of that title – and it goes off with a whimper, not a bang. But the reason has nothing to do with her age. Face facts: whether it's achieved in the gym or the surgery, Madonna has a damn fine body (and strips down to thong and bra to prove it). If Madonna isn't sexy, it's not because she's 53. For a woman who sings – or mimes – about sex, she's always made it seem like cold, hard work, all Pilates and no passion.
And yes, her face may be morphing into Priscilla Presley, but with Madonna's wealth, we'd all get botoxed too. And who cares if "Express Yourself" is the one thing her face is unable to do? That song, ironically, features the night's most eyebrow-raising moment (a tricky feat for a frozen forehead). Madonna's smart enough to steal back from the stealers, and the no-singing, all-dancing MDNA show's opener has a Vatican-gothic aesthetic that feels straight out of Haus of Gaga, until you remember that Madonna got there first with "Like A Prayer".
So far, so innocent, all part of the cycle of pop. But later, during "Express Yourself" – famously plagiarised by La Germanotta on "Born This Way" – Ciccone inserts the chorus of her junior's hit, before repeating the words "she's not me!" with pointed venom. Four times.
She's right, but for all the wrong reasons. Unlike Lady Gaga, Madonna has always had a head-smashingly banal idea of what it means to be "edgy", and tonight it means getting kidnapped by terrorists on trapezes and shooting hooded assailants with an AK47. The MDNA setlist is heavy on new material, with echoes of the old. "Girl Gone Wild" contains homeopathic traces of "Material Girl", just as the corset she wears for "Vogue" echoes her famous cone-bra. The main musical innovation is her belated discovery of gypsy folk (see revamped "Justify My Love").
"I like to live dangerously", she boasts, as she sprawls on the catwalk, freshly mopped of rain by flunkies. But if the Chinchilla Killa has proved one thing tonight, it's that there's a fine line between "dangerous" and dull. Madonna – review Hyde Park, London - Kitty Empire
The Observer, Saturday 21 July 2012
Madonna's son Rocco, 11, is one of tonight's guest performers; he's dressed at one point as a skinhead in DMs and flopping red braces for reasons best understood by his mum's stylist. But then young Rocco is probably inured to his mother's little ways by now. He's probably seen her rub her own crotch more times than he's had hot dinners, and is perfectly blasé about the prospect of the former Mrs Ritchie shooting her way out of a confessional booth with a machine gun, as she does on the set opener, Girl Gone Wild.

For stories that discuss her tour not selling out/ low ticket sales, please see Ticket Thread
For news stories about fans thinking the tour was terrible, boring, please see Fans Upset With Madonna thread
Some of these stories will be XP to other threads -------------------------------------------------------
See this first link? She's rarely held to the same standards as everyone else. She is rarely held accountable for rudeness, breaking laws, being obscene, etc. I have no idea why so many police, judges, fans, journalists and regular people excuse her when they'd take anyone else to task for the same behavior.
Police let Madonna off with waving guns on stage at sell-out Murrayfield gig - Jul 23 2012 By David Taylor
MADONNA won’t face action by cops after defying a ban on waving guns on stage at her Murrayfield gig.
The Queen of Pop had been warned not to brandish the dummy weapons before Saturday’s show.
She was slammed by critics as she kept the routine in her set less than 48 hours after the Colorado cinema killings.
Madge, 50, even joked with the crowd that the concert may be “cut off” because of Scotland’s gun laws – brought in after the Dunblane massacre in 1996.
But yesterday the Lothian and Borders force insisted there would be no action taken over the firearms display at the gig.
The show – her first in Scotland – didn’t go down well with many punters.
Lindsay Galbraith, from Glasgow, tweeted: “Madonna gig pretty disappointing and sound at Murrayfield truly awful.”
And Aileen Muir wrote: “Perhaps the worst concert I’ve been to.”

MADONNA'S SHOW CAUSES CONTROVERSY- By Camilla Tominey
July 22, 2012
SHE was once dubbed the mistress of reinvention but Madonna’s raunchy routines are now starting to feel as old as the singer’s birth certificate.
Groping male dancers and performing stripteases? We’ve seen (and heard) it all before Miss Ciccone. Small wonder the Queen of Pop’s latest MDNA tour has received mixed reviews.
MDNA, if you hadn’t realised, is a play on the chemical name for ecstasy, MDMA.
So street, that Madge! Such shock tactics as exposing a nipple and toting a toy AK47 during dance routines were from buying a ticket to last week’s gig in Hyde Park.
I don’t mind that she is 53. I don’t even mind that she swears profusely on stage or that her latest album is utter drivel.
I simply object to being charged £77 for the privilege of watching Her Madgesty’s crown slipping.

Tour last night did not sell out according to some articles. (See tickets thread).
Fans thought sound was crummy, (see Fans Angry thread).
I would not say the first half of this is a 'negative' review (he concludes by saying "but the crowd loved her anyway," (even after listing some negative aspects of the show), but whomever wrote it seems to have been unimpressed by the show.
This is not a review by one person, but a page with reviews by 6 or 7 different people who attended the show:
Pop princess reigns supreme on damp night more like hen party than concert - Irish Times.com
Exerpt:- OTT theatrics are fine but five songs in the crowd was getting restless but then it was karaoke time as the 53-year-old launched into Papa Don’t Preach.
by SORCHA HAMILTON:
However, she hit a rather bum note when she waved the gun around, with images of blood splattering in the background.
Overall, it was a bit of fun but a also a bit bland – although I do think my eight-year-old self was particularly happy when she broke into Papa Don’t Preach in the lashing rain, holding a jacket over her head.
LAUREN MURPHY:
She may have reigned over PopLand for a generation, but Madonna’s claim to the throne has been challenged by more than a few defiant youngsters in recent years. Still, her Superbowl half-time show earlier this year proved that she still had it in spades (admittedly helped along by a multitude of trendy friends and an elaborate stage set-up).
Her first Irish gig in eight years – playing to a stadium full of sodden fans in flattened cowboy hats, squelchy high-ponytail wigs and rain-smudged mascara – promised to show the kids how it’s done.
When it came down to it, though, Madonna’s Irish comeback seemed a little soggy. That was only partly due to the weather; it’s true that if there had been a ray of light cast over the Aviva, the party atmosphere may have been a little more buoyant. Even still, the setlist took a while to get going, with the first third nodding heavily to Catholicism, violence and general griminess. As darkness fell, the “cheerleader” phase seemed to stir the crowd, with digs at Lady Gaga in the midst of an enjoyable Express Yourself, and a bizarre version of Open Your Heart.
All half-heartedness was forgiven with Vogue. This was how pop music should sound – a shame it took an hour for her to hit her groove. Edging ever-closer to her mid-50s, is Madonna still The Queen of Pop? Probably, but she needs to step up her game.
by SINEAD GLEESON:
Midway through the first big hit – Papa Don’t Preach – she is shackled and carried aloft before morphing into Hung Up. We’re used to seeing Madonna borne overhead in the arms of nubile male dancers but she was occasional held aloft (vocally) by Autotune.
The early part of the set is heavy on MDNA material but the soggy crowd were clearly baying for hits. And she delivered with a superb version – including marching band and cheerleaders – of Express Yourself. Madonna has detractors but her energy and passion cannot be understated. She’s a musical giant, but it felt hard to get excited. Playing hits she can’t be bettered, but the newer material just didn’t engage live.
by ANNA CAREY:
Unfortunately we all have to sit through lots of tedious new-ish songs. It does feel that we’re all sitting patiently waiting for the good stuff, and when it finally comes, in the form of the opening strings of Papa Don’t Preach, there’s a palpable feeling of relief.
....The show was okay, but a bit disappointing. Still, she is Madonna. She can kind of do what she wants. Shut up and Play the Hits- July 25, 2012
by Una Mullally
“There’s only one real complaint to be leveled at Madonna, and that’s that for someone with so many hits she played so few.” This is what my mate Phil Boyle said on Twitter last night. And unless you were a Golden Triangle or Golden Circle fan who spent most of the concert in the Aviva stadium last night enraptured and staring skywards towards Madonna’s crotch, it’s completely true.
As rain poured down over the stadium, most people seemed to wait inside as Alesso, a totally uninteresting kid on the Swedish house DJ conveyor belt pulled his fader down. Stadiums are one of the worst places to see live music. They are echoing atmosphere vacuums that unless there’s something bombastic and exceptional on stage, it’s hard to keep people jumping up and down for two hours. And considering the stadium wasn’t full, the atmosphere was further drained, with every note bouncing off empty seats and a pitch that wasn’t at capacity.
Madonna descended – a pint sized athlete in skin tight kit ready for her pop Olympics, every contour on her remarkable gym-chisled body visible even from the stands. Then the MDNA tracks gradually had a domino effect on those who had risen to greet her presence. Hmm. It’s going to be like this then, is it? – you could hear collective bubbles bursting throughout the grounds for those who hadn’t done their gig research and were expecting a wine-fueled evening comprising of ’Holiday’, ‘Music’, ‘Frozen’, ‘Get Together’, ‘Material Girl’, ‘Ray Of Light’, ‘What It Feels Like For A Girl’, ‘La Isla Bonita’, ‘Into The Groove’, ‘Borderline’, ‘Sorry’… in fact, she didn’t play any of them. Zilcho. Zippo. Nada.
Why? Well Madonna, darling, was putting on a show. This means that everything was timed to perfection. Her physicality, dancing, timing, energy, was just phenomenal. Not one heel out of step, not one lighting cue missed. The sound was brilliant – definitely up there with the best I’ve ever heard at a show that size. But just like when you switch on a telly award show to watch your favourite pop star perform and they end up doing some sh**ty remix medley of the songs that you just want to hear them SING, Madonna’s gig fell into an over-produced blender, where ‘Open Your Heart’ and ‘Like A Virgin’ were impossibly mangled.
With the premise of the show seeming to involve her dancers kicking the sh** out of her – and each other – in an S&M binge for just under two hours, the production jackknifed from the hand-over-mouth-this-is-embarassingly-violent segue of ‘Gang Bang’, which involved her capping blokes in a motel room, to the audience being enthusiastic about anything that was even a semblance of a tune, hence the good reaction to the Paris Hilton off-cuts ‘Girl Gone Wild’ and ‘Turn Up The Radio’. This wouldn’t have been so frustrating if she wasn’t teasing us. At one point a montage of iconic Madonna videos flicked over the massive screen that was so torturously desired, I felt like writing wartime love letters to it from the trenches. You half expected an announcer to grab the mic and proclaim, “ladies and gentlemen, this is a taste of what you’re missing” and wait until everyone started crying before doing a mwoahahahahaha though the PA. I’m sure such tantric teasing was meant to remind us of how many great hits Madonna has. But we knew that. That’s why we were THERE. Unfortunately, the tunes were dispensed like gruel at an orphanage; sparingly, half-warm, and ultimately inedible.
Finally, somewhere over south Dublin, light pierced the sky, and a gospel choir arrived. The strains of ‘Like A Prayer’ filled the damp night. AT LAST! Those seated rose almost with relief, and the best moment of the night became a mass singalong to what is probably Madge’s best song. It was an epilogue for what the concert could have been like all night if her Madgesty would have so wished. Fans in the Golden Circle and Golden Triangle – the areas closest to the stage – spoke about how fantastic the detail was and how well-executed the choreography was. And that’s fine, but who goes to a stadium gig for detail? There weren’t even any large-scale acrobatics or pyrotechnics, save for drummers suspended from the air for ‘Give Me All Your Luvin’. I’m sure all of it looked fantastic in rehearsals, but when you’ve got thousands of people glaring at you over their mojitos seething “just play your bleedin’ tunes”, you’ve got a problem.
Why does Madonna do this? Well, she’s got a new album and she wants you, dear minions, to hear it. She feels entitled to put on the kind of show that she wants. And that’s fair enough. But these days, there are few stadium-sized acts left who actually do this. Prince doesn’t do it, Springsteen doesn’t do it. Beyonce is still going to play ‘Crazy In Love’. U2 always include a healthy smattering of whatever album they’re touring, but that doesn’t mean they dispense with ‘One’ or ‘With Or Without You’ or ‘Where the Streets Have No Name’. Why, when she has so many hits, would she mangle most of them (apart from ‘Vogue’, ‘Like A Prayer’ and ‘Express Yourself’ which were all deadly)? Who would sell themselves so short? Well, it’s what she does. This wasn’t a greatest hits gig or tour and was never going to be. Having paid fairly close enough attention to gigs elsewhere, I knew all about the ridiculous deconstructed version of ‘Like A Virgin’ that might seem ‘hmm, interesting’ on YouTube but in a stadium was actually laughable. I knew about the excellent version of ‘Express Yourself’ with the brilliantly bitchy gag of including a dash of ‘Born This Way’ and ‘She’s Not Me’. But whether Madonna likes it or not, she’s a heritage act. The age profile last night (in the stands anyway) was largely people in their late 30s. They’re not there to hear her latest collaboration with Nicki Minaj, they want ‘Holiday’. Know thyself, sure, but know thy fans even more.
There’s also the large neon elephant in the room, although it would have taken a herd to fill the empty spots in the stadium. Madonna’s sense of entitlement is misplaced. The gig fell far short of selling out. The new album is dismal, and the default mode should be to return to her bulging back catalogue to make an interesting concert out of it. It would have been amazing. But pleasing the masses has never been Madge’s modus operandi. Once the trucks roll away on the last date though, she might need to rethink that.

Madonna's Fake Gun Stunt Was Shameful!- by Dimas Sanfiorenzo
I hate writing the easy blog.
You know, the blog where you point a judgmental finger at someone and scream “NAUGHTY!” as if they were some kind of child.
Life is rarely that black and white — usually life is full of complexities that make a situation grey more than anything.
However, after what I saw this week I couldn’t help myself.
I'm going to wave a judgmental finger at Madonna today because the legendary singer has been bad.
I am completely baffled by the stunt she pulled this weekend.
On Saturday, Madonna's nearly 30-year role as a rebel took a petty turn for the worst when the singer pulled out a number of fake guns while performing on stage during her Scotland stop on her MDNA tour.
The practice of pulling out guns has become pretty standard for Madonna; the singer has done the act a number of times while on tour.
However, there is nothing normal about the situation that occurred the previous day back in her homeland of the United States. The day before, madman James Holmes walked into a movie theater showing The Dark Knight Rises in Aurora, Denver, and he unloaded a number of guns, killing 12 people and injuring another 58.
The tragic event was the talk of the town throughout the United States.
The news must have reached Scotland, because authorities over there asked Madonna, who was probably already somewhat aware of what was going on back in the States, to not do the stunt, knowing that it would reflect poorly, and that it was in bad taste.
And yet she did it anyway.
The singer was seen singing, holding various guns, including waving a machine gun. Considering that one of the guns James Holmes used was an assault weapon, this was especially disastrous.
So why did Madonna do it?
I’m not sure, but I can only assume that Madonna relishes the role as the ultimate insurgent, someone who does what she wants and answers to no one.
That’s fine, but there is a time and place for everything. And performing anywhere in the world, swinging fake guns, a day after one of the worst massacres in years happens, is not the way to show your rebellious nature.
It was just a complete foolish act by the legendary singer — one that needs to be rectified with an apology when she touches down in the States again.
Madonna refuses request not to use gun on stage out of respect to Denver victims- By Independent.ie reporters
Tuesday Jul 24 2012
MADONNA is set to continue a controversial part of her MDNA tour in Dublin tonight when she brandishes a gun on stage.
The 53-year-old pop legend has decided to continue with the use of guns as a prop in her show – despite requests from organisers in Scotland that she change the performance in the aftermath of the Dark Knight Rises massacre in Colorado.
A Source told The Sun: “She is expected to put on the same show for Dublin fans –Madonna is a woman who doesn’t like being told what to do and it’s all part of her routine”.
The organisers of her Aviva show, MCD, have confirmed that they have not asked the singer to change any parts of her show.
Meanwhile the ‘Like a Virgin’ singer has been requesting regular weather updates for Dublin ahead of tonight’s show.
The singer suffers from brontophobia, the fear of thunder and lightning – and the humid weather has led her to believe there is a strong possibility of a thundery down pour tonight. I may have posted this one before:
Madonna Tastelessly Waves Guns Around Onstage Post-Aurora Shooting
Madonna Owes Colorado Shooting Victims an Apology for Tasteless On-Stage Move Posted by Maressa Brown on July 24, 2012 at 5:31 PM
There's entertainment that has shock value, and then there's entertainment that is simply shocking with no value. And while Madonna used to be known for the former, it seems like she is increasingly testing the waters with the latter.
Despite being warned by the police, the Queen of Megalomania Pop defied a ban and waved fake machine guns and pistols on stage at her show in Scotland on Saturday. Yup, a full day after the tragic mass shooting in a Colorado movie theater that left 12 dead and a total of 71 people sprayed with bullets. What on earth was Madge thinking?!
It's no wonder that many are up in arms (no pun intended) over the incident. Take Mothers Against Guns, who said the 53-year-old "should know better." Ya think?! A rep from the organization put it well when they told the Saturday Morning Herald:
Madonna and her dancers using replica guns was always in bad taste but given what happened in Colorado, it is even worse.
So, okay, maybe Madge didn't get the memo about Colorado. That has to be the only explanation here, right? No! In the wake of the astounded public response, Camp Madonna actually dug their heels in. A member of her tour staff told HuffPo:
Madonna would rather cancel her show than censor her art. Her entire career, she has fought against people telling her what she can and cannot do. She’s not about to start listening to them now.
Oh please!! Here we go again with the "Madonna vs. The World" crap. The woman may be a pop icon, but she's not exempt or above common decency. I'll give it to her that in the past, she's definitely been attacked unnecessarily for pushing sexual or political boundaries. But sorry, this time, it's actually not about that. It's about being a human being and showing respect for victims of a horrific event. Having a soul.
We all knew Madge could be selfish and crazy, but this takes the cake as being mind-blowingly insensitive and brainless. The woman owes the victims of the Aurora shooting nothing short of a major apology.
Do you think Madge's behavior is completely out of line? Madonna Brandishes Fake Assault Rifle Onstage Hours After 'Batman' Massacre
'Crass and insensitive': Madonna waved fake guns on stage hours after Batman massacre - Madonna has come under fire again for another on-stage controversy from her MDNA tour.
The 53-year-old singer has been called "crass and insensitive" for flaunting fake guns at her Scotland show on Saturday, just hours after the tragic US cinema massacre.
Madonna defied the advice of local police not to use prop pistols and AK47 assault rifles at her Edinburgh concert 36 hours after the tragedy, in which a gunman killed 12 people and injured 58 at a midnight screening of the latest Batman film in Denver.
"Madonna would rather cancel her show than censor her art," one of the singer's tour staff told the Huffington Post. "Her entire career, she has fought against people telling her what she can and cannot do. She's not about to start listening to them now."
Before the performance, Madonna apparently joked that her show might be "cut off" because of the ban on fake firearms, Scottish newspaper The Daily Record reports.
The Colorado shooting amplified a fake weapon ban that was already in place out of respect to the 1996 Dunblane massacre, in which 16 children were gunned down at a Scottish school.
Scottish politician Graeme Pearson called the Material Girl "crass and insensitive", adding that "with Scotland’s own gun tragedy at Dunblane, she should have known better".
"Madonna and her dancers using replica guns was always in bad taste, but given what happened in Colorado it is even worse. She should know better," a spokeswoman for activist group Mothers Against Guns told Daily Record.
Madonna won't face any legal action for the gun show. She takes her world tour to Dublin today.
The Queen of Pop's other MDNA antics include pointing a gun at her head, and using swastika imagery on the face of a French politician:
Not to mention showing her nipple at a show in Istanbul:
And playing what some called the "worst gig ever" in London:

I was going to look up the video of the Twilight fan ranting about Stewart cheating on what's his face on You Tube, and while visiting You Tube, I saw that this was being advertised there:
Madonna MDNA in Paris streaming live on You Tube
(The wacko Twilight fan video is more entertaining than Madonna)
Edit. I'm watching the live streaming of this thing. I don't think I can watch the whole thing. I need to take a shower (I went jogging awhile ago).
Anyway, I thought this tour was supposed to start with her waving guns around at people on a motel set?
But this opened with her doing her impression of Cher (the vocoder thing - although I think Frampton was the first to use one) singing "Turn Up The Radio." I wonder if she left the gun scene out after all the recent criticism (which her handlers said she would not be doing?)
She yelled "F*ck yeah" before beginning the song. I have never liked profanity and try to refrain from using it myself.
The meter thing below the video says that currently 36,994 people are watching this right now. ha ha, now it says 35, 214. (An hour ago, the meter read 60,000.) Now it's down to 34,600. Now it's 33,000.
She's not hitting the low notes in "Open Your Heart." Ooh, and there was one clunker note.
After that song, she just thanked people for sleeping on the sidewalk over night to see her show, she said she appreciates it, and she doesn't take them for granted - how does that jibe with her usual attitude that her fans are losers who need to get lives of their own instead of see her on tours?
Now she's giving a lecture about minorities being welcome in France and how creative people have been trekking to France for decades. (Why do we not see her and celebrities such as her espouse how great America is?)
She said it's her intention to promote tolerance. (Does that include even for Republicans, conservatives, and Christians?)
That was a long, rather dull lecture. Now she's about to do another song
The viewer meter is down to 22,650.
I don't know how much more of this I'm going to watch. So far, this show has been rather "meh."

See my post above this one, the first half of the review is there.
I took my shower so I missed part of the show.
When I got back online, she was waving guns around, so I guess she put the gun part of the show back in?
She is now down to 20,700 viewers.
There's some guy tied to a chair. They're both singing in French.
She shot him in the head.
The video has switched back to her name and the text "please stand by for the start of the re broadcast."
I guess that was the end.
Edit. Am I the only one who watched the live streaming of the tour?

Wow, they were throwing bottles at the stage? Wish I had been there. The only reason to attend a Madonna concert: Give her hell.

I posted the following on the "Fans Angry/Upset with Madonna" thread:
"I can't blame her fans for being upset - that's a lot of money for a mediocre concert and stupid political speech. France has gone full-on socialist with the election of Francois Hollande, of which has driven many wealthy people away from France, and you know what happens when rich people take their money and go elsewhere? There's less money to tax. I don't think many of these
Madonna fans are Le Pen supporters, but I am sure some of them might be concerned with the way things are going in France and the rest of Europe. More immigrants means more people on the public dole, since many of the immigrants Madonna keeps whining about come from poorer countries. Add to that the fact that many of these immigrants are Muslims who refuse to assimilate or even respect the culture of their new home, and you get a lot of anger and resentment on both sides.
- Quote:
-
"I know that I made a certain Marine Le Pen very angry with me," Madonna said during the l'Olympia show , which mixed her hits with covers by French singer Serge Gainsbourg and homages to such national icons as Alain Delon and Edith Piaf. "And it's not my intention to make enemies ... It's my intention to promote tolerance. And when we start saying that we have to get rid of this person or we have to get rid of that person, because then we'll have a better place, it starts to sound like something else, it starts to sound like something scary. So the next time you want to point the finger at somebody and blame them for a problem in your life, take that finger and point it back at you."
This statement by Madonna is hypocritical. She's lying when she says she never intended to make enemies. What the hell did she expect when she superimposed a white swastika over Marine Le Pen's head?"
I wanted to post the following screenshots from her "Nobody Knows Me" interlude video (courtesy of that deranged Paws Down person):

Obviously, this image means that Marine Le Pen is a Nazi because she allegedly does not want any Muslims in France. That's probably not entirely true, but I do know that Ms. Le Pen is concerned about Muslim immigration, especially since some of them are quite violent.

This is the other one. I am guessing that the dead person is a Muslim, or something. Interesting how Madonna does not acknowledge violence committed by Muslim immigrants all across Europe.
Her tour is nothing more than BS propaganda. I wouldn't be happy about paying $300 or more to watch some stupid, one-sided agitprop.

...well said, Mihoshi...
...I am so sick of this hypocritical, sanctimonious, parvenue foisting her uninformed and ill-advised commentary on the world...
...this is yet another bad fruit of the media's fawning treatment all these years....it inflated her already swollen ego to the point where she actually believes she has something relevant and important to say about matters that are clearly beyond her wisdom....

Edit. New Link below.
I have to say I'm a little confused by all these people claiming they were Madonna fans until now (as in the first new link below).
They're saying Madonna's gun imagery or swastika picture on her MDNA tour turned them off.
She's been doing stuff just as bad if not worse than that for over 25 years, but these people are just NOW noticing she's obnoxious, tawdry, rude, and disrespectful? Were they not paying attention at all to her shenanigans of the 1980s / 1990s?
Madonna's MDNA Tour May Face Harshest Criticism In U.S.
An excerpt:- Madonna’s first North American show is on Aug. 28 in Philadelphia, after she spends the summer touring Europe, and she can expect her MDNA show to receive its biggest criticisms yet.
“Madonna is a living legend. There’s no one alive today who is bigger than her, and her legacy is amazing. She is probably the biggest pop star in the world, but every great thing must come to an end ... she may have taken it too far this time with a swastika and pulling a gun onstage," Ronn Torossian, the founder of leading PR agency 5WPR, told me.
"The Nazi symbol of a swastika is simply universally offensive -- and it seems Madonna is now desperate for attention, rather than cutting edge. Whether great business leaders, athletes or entertainers, it's important to go out with grace, and with style," Torossian continues.
"Madonna, at her age, pulling these antics cheapens her brand and takes away from her legacy. It’s beneath this marketing genius. As a PR agency owner and professional marketer, I regard her as a marketing genius, but today as a Jewish entrepreneur who owns a PR agency, it's offensive and enough is enough, Madonna.” Madonna concert ‘anti-Polish provocation’ claims MP- A conservative opposition MP has protested that the Madonna concert in Warsaw on 1 August – the anniversary of the beginning of the WW II Warsaw Uprising - is an “anti-Polish provocation”.
Stanisław Pięta, an MP for the Law and Justice (PiS) opposition party has written to sports minister Joanna Mucha in protest against the concert being staged at the new National Stadium on Wednesday.
"Veteran organisations, patriotic and Catholic movements express their outrage and opposition to the concert by Madonna Louise Ciccone, to be held at the National Stadium on August 1," Pięta writes.
The Warsaw Uprising began on 1 August 1944 and lasted 63 days before the Polish Home Army was crushed by German Nazi forces.
An estimated 200,000 Poles lost their lives in the ultimately doomed resistance and 1 August is marked every year by various ceremonies throughout the capital.
“The first day of August is a very important anniversary for Poles, and especially for the citizens of Warsaw. We have already collected several thousand signatures and issued dozens of calls in protest at the event,” the MPs letter continues.
The MP wrote to Minister of Sport Joanna Mucha as it was her ministry that granted permission for the concert to take place at the National Stadium, recently built for the Euro 2012 football championships.
MP Pięta says that Madonna, “ is known for her provocative, anti-Christian statements [and] insulting religious symbols” and her concert should not be staged at the National Stadium on such an important anniversary.
A web site, protestuj.pl, has been set up to protest against the concert.
In an attempt to appease the protesters, the Warsaw local authority and the Live Nation company which is staging the concert have agreed to screen a short film documenting the events of the Warsaw Uprising before Madonna comes on stage. (pg)

Is it just me, or does it seem like only a day or two after the outrage over the guns at her show and then the people booing her on stage at the other show (in Paris) that ALREADY the negative media coverage and anger has died down? It feels that way to me.
I'm guessing the next time she puts on a show, it will be business as usual.
On the other hand, the controversy isn't entirely working to her favor this time, either. It used to be she could milk a single naughty or outrageous act for weeks or months on end, this time, it's all over within a few days.

...I was just thinking something similar...she obviously just doesn't matter that much anymore...after initial outrage at one of her stunts, people quickly lose interest...

My best friend lives in Poland and he said he heard nothing about the Warsaw concert. The Polish officials made her play the Warsaw Ghetto footage uprising and then the press acted as if SHE decided to run it. Truly, everyone is just sick of her need for attention and apolitical narcissism and wants her to go away.

Polish groups protest over Madonna's Warsaw show- Catholic and veterans' groups in Poland are protesting against a concert by Madonna because it falls on the anniversary of the Warsaw Uprising.
Some are urging ticket-holders to boycott Wednesday's show, which comes 68 years after the city's failed revolt against Nazi occupation began.
Organisers of the concert have agreed to show a short clip about the events of 1944 before the performance.
Every year, Poles commemorate the 200,000 lives lost during the uprising.
One Catholic group called Krucjata Mlodych, or Youth Crusade, has started an online campaign urging people not to attend the concert.
They say more than 50,000 people have signed up to their Don't Go To See Madonna campaign.
The group also says anti-Madonna Mass services and street prayer sessions have been held.
They accuse the singer of offending their faith through her use of burning cross and crown of thorns imagery, and say she promotes pornography and sexual deviation.
Billboards around the capital promoting the concert have been defaced with the sign of the Polish Home Army, the largest underground army in Nazi-occupied Europe, reports the BBC's Adam Easton in Warsaw. 'Important moment'
Every year, at 1700 on 1 August, sirens wail across Warsaw and people stand still to pay their respects to the victims of the 63-day uprising, our correspondent says.
Conservative opposition MP Stanislaw Pieta has appealed to the government not to allow the concert to go ahead in Warsaw's National Stadium, Polish Radio reports.
Concert organisers have agreed to a proposal by city officials to show a short film about the uprising in the stadium before the show, in an attempt to appease the protesters.
Ania Pietrzak, a spokeswoman for concert organiser Live Nation, told the Press Association: "It is an important moment in Polish history, so we have decided to remind people of that moment."
It is the latest controversy to hit the 53-year-old singer's MDNA tour.
In Paris, some fans booed her when she ended the show after only 45 minutes.
She also angered supporters of France's right-wing National Front party, by showing a swastika imposed on the face of the party's leader, Marine Le Pen.

Oh yeah! I remember some facebook site 'Protest against satanistic Madonna' established by old hag Joanna S. who knows nothing about madonna. I got to know with one madonna fan and we had a great fun and laughed at her when she e.g. has written that 'Madonna doesn't respect God' or something like that and added photo of LADY GAGA in nun's costume from Alejandro video. Yes, he is a huge fan of madonna since 1992 but he doesn't deny she is a copycat and likes almost all of my photos I add on facebook profile. He is an exception.
Backing to subject 3 years ago there were protest connected with the date of her concert. 15th August-Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. It's a very important day for polish Christians and tha day of her conert. About one week ago in an interview madonna when asked if she knew about anniversary, she denied knowing anything about it, told that some people want to get attention only by scandals(does she realize she does exactly the same thing?) and she recalled the situation from 3 years before. What shocked me the most was that she told it was her birthday. I wonder why on wikipedia it's written she was born on 16th August. It seem like her continuous denying that she doesn't know anything about music, videos, lyrics she stole for over 20 years makes her lie automatically
