In an interview this past week - either with Matt Lauer or on The View, she said she did NOT regret her "sexy" (read: slutty) past. Now she's saying she does. She's done this waffling thing before - a few years ago, she said she regretted being a slut, then a year or two later she went back to saying she does not.

Now, when I say the following things, Madonna fans berate me and insult me. Let's see how they react when they hear it from Man-donna herself.

Madonna: Was She Too Sexy?- Gigwise

Contact Music:
  • Pop superstar MADONNA regrets letting her ego get the better of her during the 1980s and early 1990s - because she now wishes she hadn't been so raunchy.

The MATERIAL GIRL became famous for pushing the boundaries of what was sexually acceptable behaviour in a mainstream pop star.

But the 46-year-old, who now has two children and is married to film-maker GUY RICHIE, admits she was courting publicity for all the wrong reasons.

She says, "Sometimes I was being overtly sexual for the sake of showing off when I didn't need to be. I think I hurt myself.

"Ultimately none of us wants to be judged, or approved of, or loved because of the way we look, or how sexy we are.

"One minute I was saying believe in yourself and the next minute I was saying just be sexually provocative for the sake of being sexually provocative.

"I was letting it pump my ego, thinking aren't I great, they're writing about me, my picture's on the cover of every magazine, I'm so fabulous."

  • Madonna regrets being sexy
Monday, June 13 2005, 14:24 BST -- by Daniel Saney

Pop icon Madonna has admitted that she created a misleading image in the early stages of her career for the sake of publicity.

Looking back on her career, filled with sexual imagery in her videos, lyrics, and her 1992 book 'Sex,' she told Ladies' Home Journal: ."Sometimes I was being overtly sexy for the sake of showing off when I didn't need to be. I think I hurt myself.

"Ultimately none of us wants to be judged, or approved of, or loved because of the way we look, or how sexy we are.

"One minute I was saying 'believe in yourself' and the next minute I was saying 'just be sexually provocative.'

"I was letting it pump up my ego, thinking 'aren't I great, they're writing about me, my picture's on the cover of every magazine, I'm so fabulous.'"

  • Madonna: Was She Too Sexy?
    by Lowri Williams on 6/13/2005

After having kids and settling down in the country with hubby Guy Ritchie, Madonna is now reconsidering the sexy image that led her to fame and fortune…

At 46 Madge feels that she may have been showing off just a leeetle bit with her provocative performances and the release of her book ‘SEX’ in 1992.

She said to US magazine Ladies' Home Journal: “Sometimes I was being overtly sexy for the sake of showing off when I didn't need to be. I think I hurt myself.

"Ultimately none of us wants to be judged, or approved of, or loved because of the way we look, or how sexy we are.”

Madonna Tells of Sex Shame - Source: This is London
  • Madonna tells of sex shame
By Clemmie Moodie, Daily Mail / 13 June 2005

Throughout years of reinvention, she has steadfastly stuck to one mantra - sex sells.

But now, after making a career as a controversial, no-holds-barred sex siren, Madonna has admitted that she pushed her explicit image too far.

At 46, she has spoken out against her early, headline-grabbing years, claiming that they may have misled her legion of young fans.

'Sometimes I was being overtly sexual for the sake of showing off when I didn't need to be. I think I hurt myself,' the singer told the American magazine, Ladies' Home Journal.

'Ultimately none of us wants to be judged, or approved of, or loved because of the way we look, or how sexy we are.

'One minute I was saying believe in yourself and the next minute I was saying just be sexually provocative for the sake of being sexually provocative.

'I was letting it pump up my ego, thinking aren't I great, they're writing about me, my picture's on the cover of every magazine, I'm so fabulous.'

The Like A Virgin singer's admission comes just days after the publication of her fifth children's book, Lotsa De Casha, which she hopes will complete her makeover from raunchy star to demure mother of two.

It is not known whether Madonna's devotion to Kabbalah, a mystical offshoot of Judaism, has anything to do with her newfound bashfulness.

But it seems the queen of pop - who has a 1992 picture book called Sex to her name - has something of a hazy, and indeed short-term, memory.

Just last year she completed her Reinvention tour which, as well as netting her £65million, involved a number of flesh-baring costumes.

And earlier this year Madonna, who married the film director Guy Ritchie in December 2000, fronted a £ 5million advertising campaign for Versace posing as a vampish businesswoman.

But that is tame compared to some of her previous incarnations - such as her 1990 Blonde Ambition tour when she cavorted on stage in a coneshaped bra and fishnet stockings.

I thought Madonna didn't "dwell on the past" and is "always looking forward."

Obviously, she is dwelling on the past.

Of course, it's still ALL ABOUT HER. Nevermind the confusion and insecurity she passed on to lots of vulnerable girls who now think it's liberating to visit strip joints...

Sge should save this rubbish for her fans. If she regrets being like that, why does she still do it? Think about the recent yoga poses with her legs wide apart, the Swept Away photos with her legs apart, the "look at my crotch" posing on stage on her last tour...even the latest Ladies Home Journal, at least one pic has her on a chair with legs apart and a walking stick between. She just can't keep her legs together, and it's the same old Madonna.
Years back she told us that a woman can be strong and respected without showing off her body, which is what she did. Now she tells us she's matured and regrets the in your face sex, while posing with her legs apart. Sheesh.

This time 'round, I think that the Venereal Girl is claiming to have second thoughts about her earlier slut behavior only because she's hyping children's books that she's written.

The last time she claimed to "regret" her slut behaviour was when she was trying to morph into her latest marketing image, the earthy, New-Agey type during her "Ray of Light" phase. She stated in an interview around that time that she regretted being a whore.

Right now with this new kiddie book to promote, Madonna has to pass herself off as Ms. Prim and Proper Susie Home maker, since she has to realize that some parents would have a problem buying a children's book by an over-hyped prostitute such as herself.

Fan site Madonna Tribe remarks,
Quote:

Both the Daily Express and the Daily Record are having fun "bringing back" Madonna's "shocking" past today. Oh well, as Madonna herself said on The View, she has no regrets, and the fans can certainly enjoy these spreads with stunning photos.
First of all, this sounds like the fans at Madonna Tribe wish that these magazines were not reminding people of what a total whore- and- a- half Madonna was in the 1980s and early- to- mid- 1990s. Are they tacitly admitting that they are embarrassed and ashamed of Madonna's previous hyper-slutty antics and wish the magazines would keep quiet about it?

If so, how bizarre is that? So many Madonna fans claim to like her precisely because she is a slut- and- a- half, and they confuse sluttiness with female empowerment

- Or with homosexual rights. Really - some of her homosexual fans have said in interviews and essays at the fan sites that they took her 'I can have sex as often as I want, with whomever I want, and it's nobody's business' attitude as some kind of inspiration or stamp of approval that it's okay for men to have sex with other men. I don't know quite how they make that leap of logic, but whatever.

If I am recalling correctly, Madonna did say either on The View or the Matt Lauer interview that she has "no regrets," yet she did express regret in the Ladies Home Journal interview, which was given before her appearances on The View and the Matt Lauer show.

Looking over the quotes from Ladies Home Journal, while Madonna does not say specifically "I regret x, y, and z" in oh-so-many words, her comments do indicate regert none-the-less:
  • "Sometimes I was being overtly sexual for the sake of showing off when I didn't need to be. I think I hurt myself"
That sure sounds like regret to me.

Whether or not The Venereal Girl is sincere is another question.

I like the title of this article; notice the word 'claims' in the heading:

Madonna Claims to Have Found Humility
  • Madonna claims to have found humility
New York, NY, Jun. 14 (UPI) -- Mother-of-two Madonna says at age 46 she realizes she might have pushed herself and her sexuality too far onto young fans in the past.

In an interview with Ladies Home Journal, the singer remembered for appearing naked in a book called "Sex," and passionately kissing Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera during the 2003 MTV Music Video Awards, said she went too far.

"Sometimes I was being overtly sexual for the sake of showing off when I didn't need to be," she said. "I think I hurt myself.

"One minute I was saying believe in yourself, and the next minute I was saying just be sexually provocative for the sake of being sexually provocative."

Her regret for her previous raunchiness seems to be a recent development, the New York Daily News said, pointing out just last year, her "Reinvention" tour involved a series of ultra-skimpy costumes.

Madonna’s lawyers are fighting to stop a collection of love letters and intimate photographs being made public at the same time as she tries to make her adoption of a Malawian baby permanent.

The 17 notes and seven Polaroid snaps she sent in the early 1990s to then boyfriend James Albright were recently sold to an investment company specialising in Madonna memorabilia.

The firm is now touting them around to the highest bidder and hoping to make more than £100,000.

Some of the pictures, which the singer took of herself, show her naked in explicit poses.

The collection also includes personal items such as underwear which Madonna apparently sent to Albright during their two-year relationship.

Although she repeatedly posed nude at the time for her controversial coffee-table book, Sex, she is understood to be devastated about the arrival of such items on the market - particularly at such a sensitive time.

The head of Malawi’s child welfare service is about to spend a week with Madonna and her family in London to assess whether they are fit to adopt baby David Banda permanently.

Too, too funny!!!!!

What'd I say??? In another thread I was saying that there were other dirty pics of her out there waiting to make the rounds.

Can't imagine how she could prevent them from being sold- unless she bid on them herself.

If she manages to do that on the cheap, how much more is that proof that her day is dead and gone?

 It couldn't have happened to a nicer person.

Also, the stupidity of it all.... and it's not just Madonna. Other people film themselves having sex and what have you and then get outraged when it goes public.

I've never understood why people do that sort of thing (send naked pictures of themselves to someone else, etc).

The head of Malawi's child welfare service is about to spend a week with Madonna and her family in London to assess whether they are fit to adopt baby David Banda permanently.

The singer and her husband Guy Ritchie are said to be "dreading" the imminent visit by Penston Kilembe, who will spend up to five days at the family's £6.5million Marylebone house as part of a "home study".

James Albright served as Madonna's bodyguard from January to July 1992, after which he became romantically involved with her and remained so until 1994.

The letters and notes, all of which come on "Madonna" headed notepaper, were sent by the singer at a time when she was professionally at her most controversial. She had just brought out her Sex book and was about to release a sadomasochisminspired album named Erotica.

The handwritten letters are signed either "Spanky", apparently a reference to her bedroom preferences at the time, or "Lola's Mum", which is understood to refer to the ambition that Madonna had back then to name her first child Lola. Others sign off with pink lipstick kiss marks.

A source at Marquee Capital, which is selling the items, claims that rather that being merely salacious, they actually give a fascinating insight into the singer and the workings of her mind at the time.

"It's not all about sex. Some of the notes and letters talk of her world falling apart, others talk of her feeling really low and down. She talks of Albright being the best looking guy in the world and that he does not open up enough to her.

These letters show us that at the height of her career, she was actually a very insecure woman."

But Madonna's lawyers insist that selling them would be an invasion of her privacy and a breach of her copyright.

Albright now runs a Boston-based security firm which is thought to be in financial difficulty - thus forcing him to sell the memorabilia.

This is mainly said to be due to the failure of a £500,000 lawsuit in 2002, in which he tried to sue a book publisher for wrongly suggesting he was gay. The judge ruled that being labelled gay, whether rightly or wrongly, did not constitute a defamation

So she had "lola" picked out way back in '93, huh? What'd she do- abort whatever male fetuses she picked up until she knew she was carrying a female?

"insecure woman" - nah. Just a psyche job playing mind games on whoever she had cornered at the time. Wonder how many people she mailed the soiled underwear to?

James Albright - the best looking guy in the world?

I don't think so!

And what's with that childish way of speaking? I remember when she put on her album that her then husband Sean Penn was "the coolest guy in the universe". I thought that was quite babyish for someone in their late twenties.

Long before Rocco was born she said "Lola needs a brother" I wonder if she aborted female fetuses without telling her husband.

Madonna doesn't know how to love someone other than herself, so she has to behave the way she thinks people in love act. It's probably kind-of similar to the way Girlfriend Holly Madison calls Hugh Hefner "Puffin" as some sort of really ridiculous show of affection. (Yes, I've seen "Girls Next Door".)

Madonna Regrets Posing Naked For Infamous 'Sex' Book
  • Singer insists she's really a prude...
By: WENN on Wednesday 09th Apr 2008

Pop superstar Madonna fears she is only famous for taking off her clothes, but insists she was once a prude.

The Like A Virgin hitmaker regrets posing almost naked on the front cover of her 1982 book Sex, believing the daring move led people to brand her an exhibitionist.

But the 49-year-old is adamant she was once less adventurous, especially when she was married to actor Sean Penn.

She says: "I really was not getting up to much. I don't think I was as naughty as I could have been.

"I was quite straight. I was a geek when I was that age. I did not really do much that was interesting.

"I hope that's not the only thing that I'm identified with - taking off my clothes. I have done other things. There's a lot more to being Madonna than taking off your clothes."

Last week, Madonna revealed she wants to be more feminine. Do you think the Material Girl is too manly? See our gallery and judge for yourself.
