I did a google for the phrase "I used to like Madonna until..." (and similiar phrases) and here's what I found:
MERCEDES-LACKEY Digest 1042 - > Wonderful Idea time: Madonna should do the music for the LHM and she could do the voice of Yfandes!
WHAT!?!? No I can't agree with this, sorry. I used to like Madonna until I saw her concert in Nice, France (that was a few years ago) but I can never look or hear Madonna the way I used to anymore, she's "too much" for me to handle.
You can only go so far with sexual acts on stage and she treated her fans like S*&^ too. She's definately not a Misty material girl. *leaps behind the virtual stable door to avoid the snowball* ----------------- > Sorry to you people who love Madonna -- I really don't like her. I love that one song from A League of Their Own and "Like a Prayer", but after I heard "Don't Cry For Me Argentina" a la Madonna, I just got sick of her.
"Don't Cry For Me Argentina" is the ONLY thing they advertise for Evita here! After hearing the original cast recording of the song, Madonna does butcher it, she doesn't put enough emotion into the song. It's like having The New Kids on The Block do "Prima Donna" in Phantom of the Opera (gee that WOULD be a site!).
And yes, Madonna is a good actress and a fairly good singer but she's a pop artist! She doesn't know Broadway. I didn't even agree with Donnie Osmond playing Joseph in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.

Improv Board: Is Madonna still relevant? - I stopped liking Madonna when she metamorphosized from a brassy Detroit-bred party girl into an embarrassed British mom.
I never liked Babs, for the same reason I never liked Michael Stipe. Hey, the music's great, but leave the political statements for people with something intelligent to say.
One other poster from that thread wrote, - Brownstone Brat
Q: Is Madonna Still Relevant? A: You bet your bottom dollar she is!
There is no doubt in my mind that Madonna's Gap campaign is going to be a HUGE success. HUGE. (Note from Flea: it was not a huge success; I posted an article to the old board that said that Madonna's work for GAP did not cause them to gain huge marketshare or profits)
No, I didn't love the American Life album and Swept Away was a piece of sh*t, but that doesn't mean that I don't still love Madonna.
Do irrelevant celebrities/artists/whathaveyou have people writing articles about their relevance? Nope.
Just because some people still write and opine about Madonna - even if it's negative - does not prove or mean that Madonna is still relevant. She's been crammed down our throats for two decades, though it's cooled off a lot in the past few years.
Then there were posters in the thread who asked, - to all the things Madonna fans and Madonna- ass- kissing jouranlists say she's relevant to - culture, music, feminsim. Der.
Madonna fans - and Madonna herself - like to think that she's a fabulous, hip, always on the latest trends, her pulse on what's hot right now, never out-dated or never behind-the-times, so it's only fair that Madonna critics bring up the question 'is she relevant,' but the fans like to play coy and say things like "relevant to what?" - as if they didn't know.
If you don't get the question (i.e., if you act stupid on purpose), or object to the question, stop bringing up what a trend setter she is and how she keeps "reinventing" herself.
Either you think she's always current and on top of things and you want to brag about how she keeps changing to fit in with today's world (or be one step in front of it), or knock it off and don't object when people ask if she really is still relevant.

i first saw madonna in 1983, on top of the pops, i think, I thought 'who the hell/what the hell is THAT? she had a mish mash of clothes on and funny braided hair. I didn't think much of her. then she made 'lucky star' and i loved the video even though she was a raunchy type. I became a fan properly in 1986 when i heard her singing 'open your heart' i couldn't believe it was her voice. after that i was hooked and i bought the 'true blue' album (which i still love and play to this day!) I loved her style and her performances and her voice but i never thought she was much cop as a person, always a bitchy and snobby individual. i never liked her selfish attitude. i still followed her even though, but i was a silly teenager who followed the masses i suppose. and you couldn't escape madonna no matter where you went or who you were, she was always 'in your face'!
Anyway, i started to go off her in 1989 when she made the burning crosses video for 'like a prayer' i'm not a religous person but i felt she had gone too far with the religious stuff and she was horrider than horrid at the 'blonde ambition' tour. UGGHH!! and double UGGHHH! she was trashy and slutty and was going miles too far now in the name of fame and she was being dead greedy with money and possessions and being a cow in the 'in bed with madonna' film. horrible!!
Since then i've never had much to do with her anymore, and she's just totally disgusting an ugly now and she still thinks she 21 urgh!!! and all her botox makes her look like a waxwork!!
I found this site by accident and laughed my head off at the things you were all saying about madonna calling her 'manny' etc. i found myself agreeing with what you were all saying because madonna must be STOPPED she is truly satanical or something isn't she? and she's a COW to them poor little kids, fancy having to book time with her because she's too busy to be with them. sad selfish b***h!!!

I actually liked 'Holiday' at the time - it was pure escapist fun with a fresh sound.
That fresh sound and carefree message supported the image of the emerging Madonna as pure, guilt-free fun----pop music without guile or menace.
How sad and ironic that the real Madonna and her music proved quite the opposite - a conniving, joyless control freak with minimal talent and a taste for blasphemy - all driven by a truly heinous arrogance...
It boggles the mind to see what a big 'No Fun Zone' the post-Holiday Madonna continues to be....

I used to like Madonna until... I realized she copied off so much from Marilyn Monroe and I'm a huge fan of Marilyn as you can tell from my username!
I started liking Madonna in 2001 when I first heard her song 'Holiday' on an 2 hour 80's request program that I heard every Saturday. And then in 2003 I read this site, and spent the next 6 years in denial until about 2009 I realized what a terrible person Madonna was/is.
I love your site Flea and not only that, you make Madonna bashing fun, Lol.

Hello and welcome.
Glad you like the board and site, though (other than the home page), I've not really worked on the site in a long time.

Never really liked her, but some of her friends (such as Stephen Bray) wrote some catchy songs for her back in the 1980s.

Thank you Flea and I would like to say Hello also!
Madonna's music? I hate to admit it, but it's catchy as heck! All her stuff from the beggining of her career to about The Immaculate Collection is addictive. Also some of her songs from Confessions on a dancefloor is catchy too.
Once in a while I like a few of her newer songs, but overall they aren't as addictive as Madonna in her 'hey day'.

Madonna gave you "deep things to think about" when you were a teen??? You must have been quite the air head back in the day. (And you categorize "dance, fashion and romance" as "deep things"?)
Like a Tornado: Or, Madonna’s Recent Concert - Tuesday, 18 September 2012 11:15 Julie Gerstenblatt
I texted Laura and told her my decision: we were skipping the concert. She’d have to invite someone else.
I used to love Madonna. But I am not in love with Madonna anymore. I still adore the vintage Madge, the one who sang songs that mattered to me. The one who didn’t call herself “Madge.” That Madonna shaped the way I dressed and gave me quasi-deep things to think about through her platform as a pop culture icon. Sex. Religion. Abortion. Fashion. Dance. Romance.
But for me, to quote Take a Bow, “the show is over, say goodbye.” I felt lame by not going that night, and, as I watched the rain fall, I also felt perfectly comfortable with my decision. I mean, it’s not like I’d never seen Madonna in concert. It’s more like, can anything ever really top your first time?
I went home and put on my PJs and snuggled with my husband in front of the TV.
I had my once-in-a-lifetime with Madonna a lifetime ago. Madge would have to understand.

This could probably be cross posted to several other threads, such as "Has Been" or the one about Madonna's clothing.
This person says she was a big fan for years but began losing interest in Madonna around 2004.
My One-Sided Love Affair with Madonna is Over
Excerpt:- Christina Anderson
Fashion Editor
My obsession with the singer peaked in 2004, with her "Re-Invention" tour. I saw her in concert three times in one year and I followed her obsessively on fan-sites.
But, in the past few years, the pop icon has fallen from grace in my humble opinion. Somewhere between her divorce from Guy Ritchie to her relationships with Brazilian model Jesus Luz and backup dancer Brahim Zaibat, I started to wish that her style would mature and that the leotards, fishnet stockings and sheer styles would be retired in favor of something a little more sophisticated. In an interview, I asked Arianne Phillips her thoughts on dressing for one's age, to which she responded, "I don't limit myself to thinking in a such a way." Well, then. I guess that's where looks like this one came from.
Madonna is known as the queen of reinvention. She managed to keep our attention over three decades, selling out stadiums with ease. Now, 31 years into her career, her style remains playful, sexy and irreverent, which is almost the same as when she started in the music business in the early '80s (though no one would argue that her body is in better shape now, at age 54, than it was when she was in her 20s). Her recent nipple-flash at a concert in Istanbul garnered a few raised eyebrows, but hey, this isn't the first time that Madge has bared her bod. But with the likes of Nicki Minaj, Lady Gaga and Katy Perry taking the stage in outlandish getups, is Madonna's status as a forward-thinking risk-taker in jeopardy? And if so, is her style stagnating? Lastly, if her style isn't evolving, is it a sign that her music stagnating too?

Madonna Jerks Off Kanye’s Ego and Says Other Dumb Sh t
Excerpt - As a broad born in the 1980’s, I used to worship Madonna as a God and thought everything about her, her music, and her manipulation of the media was f***ing brilliant, but nowadays it’s kind of like she’s just trying way too hard.
I don’t find her innovative anymore, now she’s like someone’s weird grandma trying really hard to stay young and hip and sexy with the kids.
Madonna has been saying controversial sh** for years, but before she kind of always had a point.
Now, it’s like she’s just saying sh** for the sake of saying sh**, like when she recently announced that Kanye West was the new, black Madonna, and that gay rights are way more advanced than women’s rights. Mhmm.
...Listen, I’m a straight up feminist and 100% admit that women’s rights have a long f***ing way to go, so in that sense I totally agree with Madonna.
However, as a straight white woman, I don’t think she should really be coming down on gay and black rights, saying their struggle isn’t as bad as women’s.
To me, it seems like for every BS rape culture case you see in the news, you’ll also see a story about a black person being murdered (usually by a white cop these days), or a gay kid committing suicide over being bullied or outted.
And, sadly, it seems like none of the women, African-Americans, or LGBTQ people in these situations gets much (if any) justice. So, calm the f**k down Madonna, because we’re all doing kind of sh**ty.
