Madonna's Hair Color / Style

Mandona had her hair dyed red over the weekend, prompting the press in the UK to dub her "Maginga" which hopefully, will stick.

She's dyed it red before, but this got in the press because outside of screwing Gitney out of $26,000, she hasn't done anything except fight with Goober, in weeks.

OK, which classic movie star had red hair? That's who she'll be imitating in her next video.

"Maginana?" - I'm with Gabriel's Horn on this, it sounds too much like ~ *ahem* ~ another word, if you know what I mean. And you know very well what I mean, so don't bother asking :laugh:

No matter what Madonna's hair color is, she rarely washes it. :laugh:

Madonna did dye her hair red before, once that I know of (unless it was a wig?), for a music video, for a remake of the song "Fever." Before that, she mostly went back and forth between black and blonde hair, though.

I had wondered why she didn't go red before this (for longer than a single music video). I guess she's so totally out of ideas (or "reinventions" :rolleyes2: ) that going red was the only thing she could come up with this at this point to get media attention

- other than the recent horse spill, of course, but I'm talking about her "reinvention" habit, e.g., changing fashion styles, hair styles, etc.

Grandma-donna wore a pink wig once, in the mid 1980s, to sing one of her songs on some show such as "American Bandstand" or whatever it was.

That shade of red does not look very good. It looks like rust.

OK, which classic movie star had red hair? That's who she'll be imitating in her next video.

I read in some book on old Hollywood that most of the big-name actresses from the 1920s - 1940s were red heads (if I am remembering correctly), but since all their photos were taken in black and white, people assume they were blondes because their hair looks light.

Marlene Dietrich was one who started out as a red head, if I remember correctly, but then changed her hair color. I was surprised, since I always assumed she was a blonde who colored her hair brown at times in her career.

I think Maureen O'Hara was a natural red head. Jayne Meadows.

I have a book of color movie posters from that era (20s - 40s), and the artists gave almost all the leading ladies red hair.

Lighter color hair is supposed to be easier to photograph, which is one reason most actresses have gone blonde, and maybe that's why so many went from red to blonde, to make their hair color even lighter.

Bette Davis; Clara Bow; Greer Garson; Mitzi Gaynor; Susan Hayward; Rita Hayworth; Katherine Hepburn; Deborah Kerr

Famous Red Heads, from Red and Proud (M - Z, partial list of females) - mentioned:
Shirely McClaine;
(they list Marilyn Monroe - she was born with blonde hair, it turned brown as she got older, and she colored it red a few times, but she was never a 'natural' red head, so I've no idea why she's on their list. Her natural brown hair did seem to have red flints of color in some photos, though, maybe that's why she's on their list);
Maureen O'Hara; Annette O'Toole; Juliet Prowse; Ginger Rogers; Ann Sheridan; Geraldine Somerville

Not a sell-out.

:laugh: :laugh: I heard so much sh** about Madonna being a redhead lately. um can someone please tell me WHEN she was a redhead lately??? Every ugly pic I see on here she is blond. These fans are so desperate that when she redyes her hair to cover up her greys, its a different color???

Now, I read the new tracklist and Forbidden Love is listed on the cd. Wasn't it on Bedtime Stories? Is it that hard to come up with an original title?? How insulting to her fans

Speaking of insulting:

Hung Up
Get Together
Sorry
Future Lovers...

Are the first four titles of her new songs a message to her fans when put together??? :laugh:

She's a redhead on the new album cover.

Other than the one video from the '90s (was it 'Fever'?) that's the one hair color she hasn't tried.

I think Lady Chadwick started a thread about this, asking us which famous red head we thought Madonna was trying to rip off.

I then did a brief search and listed the names of famous red heads.

Wasn't Rita Hayworth a red head?

I guess Madonna's fans and the journalists who like Madonna are going to think she's a genuis at 'reinvention' just because she changed her hair color again.

Yeah, it was Fever. And her red hair in that video had been a wig.

by NICOLE LAMPERT and CLEMMIE MOODIE, Daily Mail

They are both normally pictures of perfection. But Madonna and Brad Pitt have been looking far from their glamorous selves.

At a Paris fashion show yesterday, all eyes were on Madonna's apparently receding hairline.

An audience member with a closeup view of the 47-year-old singer said: "The most striking thing was how unusually large her forehead was. Everyone was wondering if years of dying her hair meant it was receding.

"She was all in black which emphasised her recent weight loss. Her cheekbones looked razor-sharp while the skin round her neck and chin looked overly-taut and puckered."

Pitt, meanwhile, has dyed his famous locks dark brown, with a Fifties-style quiff and sideburns.

The 42-year-old actor's new look is for his role as 19th century outlaw Jesse James in a film, although some felt it owed more to Elvis Presley.

Pitt's hairstyle was revealed as he dined out in London on Tuesday night - with Madonna. They were with her husband Guy Ritchie and chef Jamie Oliver.

Very similar to the article The Changing Faces of Madge (which I created a separate thread for).

Unfortunately, most of the blog type entries at the bottom of the Daily Mail article (written by their site visitors) are positive in tone.

I can't believe that anyone honestly thinks that Madonna looks okay in these photos where she's at the fashion show.

Photo is below.

Anyway, The Venereal Girl has a new hair style. I'm waiting now for everyone in the media to start screaming, "Oh, she's such a creative genius! Look at how she's reinvented herself again!"

-as if no other woman on the face of the planet has ever gotten a new hair style or hair color :rolleyes2:

This, IMO, also shows how shallow and calculated the whole "reinvention" thing is. Most of the time, she uses an image only for so long as it's needed to market a particular record album (or book).

When that book / album is over, she drops whatever that look was. It's not about being creative or anything, it's all about selling crap.

~~ 2 EDITs BELOW (including more pictures) ~~

Please note: I placed an article from The Sun ("Two bob ... Madonna, left, and Sharon Stone") in the More Rip-offs- Photographic Evidence thread.

It has a photo of Manny next to Sharon Stone, with Stone in the same hairstyle. The article says that Manny ripped it off from Stone or Victoria Beckham.
The only good thing I can say about these hair articles is that they're pointing out that Idiot has ripped this look off from other people.

On the downside, as I was saying in the post above, I was just waiting for the media to jump on this and remark about how she reinvents herself - when all she did was get a new hairstyle! :rolleyes2:

The media can be so predictable.

Madonna Has Gone Platinum
  • Daily Record, 20 September 2006
    MADONNA HAS GONE PLATINUM

    SHE'S no stranger to dramatic image changes, but pop icon Madonna still turned heads in Tokyo yesterday.

    The 48-year-old singer appears to have copied Victoria Beckham's new look with a platinum blonde bob.

    And she looked fantastic as she showed off the new hairstyle for the cameras.

    Madonna was spotted as she left the Japanese capital's Louis Vuitton store.

    She is in the Far East for the latest dates on her Confessions world tour which visited Britain last month.

    But the evergreen star also took time out to film her new video in the city for her next single, Jump.
But don't fret Guy.. it's her new hair - Mirror.co.uk
  • By Fiona Cummins Showbiz Reporter

    HAIR we go again as Madonna shows off a brand new bob - the latest in a long line of makeovers.

    The pop queen, married to film producer Guy Ritchie, 38, unveiled her stunning new look at a photo exhibition in Tokyo.

    This time Madge, 48 - in the middle of her Confessions world tour - seems to have taken a style tip from Victoria Beckham, who had the trendy chop several weeks ago.

    But wherever she got her inspiration, the sweeping fringe and shorter cut went down a storm with fans. One said: "It takes years off her. She looks so glam and sophisticated.

    "It's a fresher, funkier style - a bit reminiscent of an early Debbie Harry."

    Madonna also seemed pleased with her new image, smiling broadly as she was cheered by crowds in Japan.

Who Madonna has ripped off lots of times, earlier in her career.

~~~ EDIT 2 ~~~
Oh brother. This article contains the cliche' about Madonna "reinventing" herself.
And why are they devoting an entire article about her hair??
This is creepily evocative of the 1980s. Anytime she changed her hair then or changed her nail color, she got on the cover of Time and Life magazines. :rolleyes2:
I placed the funny or nauseating parts in bold faced type -
Madonna pays a few bob for new blonde look
  • From strawberry blonde and permed, to Gothic black and straight, there are not many hairstyles that Madonna hasn't tried.
    Now, with a dramatic new platinum blonde bob, the 48-year-old singer has undergone yet another reinvention.
    While the shade is reminiscent of her 1990s Material Girl heyday, the blunt-edge cut is different to anything she has ever previously had,
    Costing a cool £750, it is, however, a little more pricey than the average cut n' blow-dry.
    "Madonna wanted to do something spectacular to mark turning 48 last month," said a source close to the star. "There is no way she is going to grow old gracefully.
    "The cut had been planned for quite a while and was by no means a spontaneous decision. Madonna knows she is in as good a shape as ever and facially barely looks a day older than she did when she first started out.
    "As a result she wasn't in the least daunted by the prospect of returning to a hair colour that she first had nearly 15 years ago.
    "It's not the most forgiving of shades, but Madonna looks great - and she is delighted with the end result."
    The performer, who is on the final leg of her Confessions world tour, showed off her new look at the X-Static Process photography exhibition at the Louis Vuitton store in Tokyo yesterday.
    Celebrity hairdresser Andy LeCompte is thought to be the man behind the edgy style.
    The Beverly Hills-based crimper has been accompanying Madonna throughout her gruelling world tour, washing and styling her hair before each and every stage performance.
    Wearing a black satin zip-up jacket and scarlett red lipstick, the mother-of-two teamed her platinum locks with a heavy lashing of dark eye make-up.
    While it is not known just who, or what, the inspiration behind Madonna's latest haircut is, intriguingly it is remarkably similar to the bob recently revealed by Victoria Beckham.
    Of course, ardent Madonna fans have grown accustomed to their idol's many changes of hairstyle.
    Naturally auburn, she sported a zebra-like blonde and dark crop in 1984 when she released her first single Like A Virgin.
    Five years later she returned to her roots once again for her controversial Like A Prayer video, in which she staged a mock crucifixion.
    After that she was a bottle blonde for nearly ten years, with hues ranging from ice-white to bohemian-inspired strawberry tones.
    For her Ray Of Light album, she dyed her tresses a vivid jet black colour, as she first began dabbling with the Kabbalah faith.
    But in 2000, with the release of the album Music, she returned to long blonde curls.
    Her most recent hairstyle has been a 1970's, Farrah Fawcett-esque feathered number.
This hairstyle makes her look even more mannish, IMO (because it accentuates her square jaw line)
That's because she's reinvented herself as The Little Dutch Boy- with her finger in every dyke.
