In the thread entitled, "Material Girl gives peace a chance," in the original article (by Jeannette Walls), Ms. Walls quoted someone (referred to as "a source") in her piece as saying that Madonna has 'evolved, ' i.e., "She’s evolved and really cares about world issues." (Which I naturally laughed at.)

Anyway. In an interview Madonna gave the other day she claims that she has "evolved." (Maybe Madonna herself was Ms. Walls' "source.")

Is this Madonna's (or her public relation team's) new favorite word? Instead of "reinvention," they're going to go on and on that she's "evolved" or "evolving" -?

I guess this is a part of her current image make-over: 'No, I'm not a shallow, vapid, bimbo, I really care about other people! Honest!'

Here's another example:
  • 'I've Evolved and Moved On'

Madonna says she's clearly not the same person who she was when she made her provocative 1993 documentary "Truth or Dare" — and she hopes fans will appreciate the change.

… there's a lot about me that I think is kind of selfish and kind of juvenile, and I'm happy to know that I've evolved and moved on." [Source: ABC News, Madonna Frets About Boring Her Fans with New Documentary]

  • Michael: Fine, but the point is that they say that you change, you reinvent yourself, every so often. Is that a deliberate thing on your part?

Madonna: The reason I called my last show Reinvention is because people have stuck that phrase over me for so many years that I decided to finally take it and stick it over my head and put lights around it.

But for me it was never about consciously thinking about reinvention, it's about growing and changing and hoping and praying that my work reflected who I was at that moment in time. And I always hoped that I was changing and growing. I just call that evolution.

No, Madonna. The rest of humanity evolved. You didn't. Otherwise, had you evolved, why would you keep beating the horse that's well nigh and truly dead?

She's done almost 50 years of evolving, yet is still as mean, greedy, and immature as ever. Where exactly have you eveolved, Skank? Your closets get bigger? Your family grows? What has evolved? You still seem like the same brat b- itch you were when you first shoved yourself in our faces.

Her microbes and crotch crickets may have evolved? Aren't they completely antibiotic-resistant now?

I am seeing a lot of articles and Rebel Heart album reviews in the last few days that insist that Madonna is "evolving" or has "always evolved."

The use of this term to describe her is starting to become a cliche'.

Here's a recent example (this will be copied to another thread)

In the past two or three days, I've come across 3 or 4 very barfy, butt kissing editorials about Madonna but I do not have the time or interest (at least right now) to post them all.

Here is one I found today:

Madonna Is A True Feminist Icon — & You Need To Pay Attention To What She's Saying
  • MAR 9, 2015 7:00 AM
    by NEHA GANDHI

Superstar. Chameleon. Truth-teller. Sexually liberated provocateur. Feminist. Mother. Artist.

This list of wholly accurate words and phrases you could use to describe Madonna is long and impressive. But, it's not complete. Yes, she's one of the few modern-day celebrities who can truly get away with a single-word moniker that's universally known and understood in every corner of the globe.

But, much more interesting than that is the fact that Madonna has never shied away from the opportunity to evolve — even now, at the stage in her career where most artists would rest on their laurels and coast. Even more interesting still, she's a profoundly thoughtful human being who goes much deeper than you could possibly imagine.
As I was just saying in another thread, if by "evolve" this author means something akin to "reinvention," Madonna stopped evolving years ago. She's recycled the same two or three looks and personas over her career (mostly Marilyn Monroe's), and the same themes: sex and religion.
