I'm not sure where this is coming from. Madonna is babbling about reincarnation and eternal life. This "Contact Music" article (link is far below) doesn't say where or when she made these comments.

Madonna already has eternal life; everyone does, since we all come with souls. From the Christian vantage point, your eternal life will be spent either in heaven or hell.

I don't totally understand what she's saying about Roman Catholicism not offering "hope" or consolation, since Roman Catholicism offers at least a chance at Heaven.

Granted, the Roman Catholic Church teaches you can never know for sure, that is, with absolute certainty, if you're going to make it Heaven-side, since they teach that believers (with the help of God's grace) have to be objectively good to "merit" heaven (which I *cough, cough* totally disagree with).

Even then, the RCC teaches you may wind up in purgatory anyway.

So I can understand - to a point - how someone who was raised in a Roman Catholic family, as she was, could be confused about this subject, but it's not like Roman Catholicism is totally devoid of hope.

If Madonna wants "consolation" and absolute assurance of where she will go when she dies, she needs to turn to the Christian teaching of "eternal security" (some people call it "once saved always saved"), which is a biblical teaching and is believed by most Protestants and Baptists.

You will run across some Protestant and Baptists (a small, small minority) who teach that eternal security is not biblical, but these guys are behaving like blockheads.

Basically, "once saved always saved" says once you place "saving faith" in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and repent of your sins, you are assured of residing in Heaven for eternity. There are many Bible verses which attest to this, including quotes by Jesus himself.

Here's the article:

Madonna Wants Eternal Life
  • MADONNA is hoping for an eternal life because she likes the idea of reincarnation.

The pop superstar and Kabbalah follower admits she turned her back on Catholicism because there was nothing consoling about the religion and she wanted something more.

She says, "The thought of eternal life appeals to me. I don't think people's energy just disappears.

"I hope by the time it's my moment to leave this world physically, I'll have gotten my head around the idea that life is an endless cycle."

let's face it, in reality, noone... and I mean NOONE knows what happens to us after we die. Individual beliefs come from family beliefs, and from (if any) religious teachings. Me? Well, I think once I"m dead, I"m gone. That's why I don't give a crap what happens to my body, it's not like I'm going to be using it for anything else, so burn it to cinders and don't waste the space to bury me. I believe in God, but I come from an American Indian background, so I believe in a "Great Spirit".

If Madonna is looking for a religion that will ensure her she's going to heaven, maybe she needs to start one of her own.

My beliefs are more Gnostic/Taoist in origin. I believe that when we die, our energy returns back to the source of All Energy, becoming part of a greater whole.

I grew up in a Christian family, however, and I still value Jesus' teachings of love and forgiveness. But I don't believe in a heaven or hell, other than it existing in the mind, of one's own making.

Nothing ever really dies. It just changes.

Christianity doesn't claim that when you die, you're gone. Nor does Judaism. Nor does most belief systems. She's obviously not much of a religious scholar if she can't figure that one out.

why is it that celebrities look for religions to validate what they do in life? I"m not looking for any spiritual guidance, but I"m not famous either. Are they that insecure? Or are they that willing to give up $$$ for someone to tell them how to live? Heck, if they want that, they can cut ME a check, I'll be happy to help them spend that moolah!!!

Didn't she say recently that she still attends the Catholic church and that she's very comfortable there? In any event, I thought Kaballah was giving her all the spiritual consolation she needed. Why the whining then?

she's trying to say that she's contributing to mankind...whores have been around since the beginning of time....what is she offering that we haven't seen before... over and over and over again. i watched a program the other day that says if all you have is sex, the attraction wears off in about 5 years...i think it was kim cattrall...well, people, do we see the writing on the wall....i read a back issue of OK magazine...november...and even they see the writing on the wall....they say it looks like the break up is imminent and watch for it to coincide with a new world tour or something...so if everybody can see what a user she is why are they still buying her crap and paying a fortune for her concerts?? grr
