Has M Been Too Hard On Herself?; - article from Daily Mail

Rather than the usual "Oooh she looks great for someone at age 47," this says the reverse.

Also, I thought it was funny that the journalist bothered to mention and point out that Madonna is the oldest person to be nominated for some award, ".... [Madonna] became the oldest person ever nominated for a best pop act Brit,...."

Has Madonna Been Too Hard on Herself?
  • by NICOLE LAMPERT, Daily Mail
    08:34am 16th January 2006

She had given herself a rare night off for a restaurant date with her husband.

And if the hollows in her face were any indication, Madonna deserved it.

The 47-year-old singer, who has a punishing exercise schedule, seemed to have been pushing herself a little too hard lately.

In a severe black coat, she appeared pale and almost gaunt. And thanks to her apparent weight loss, those chiselled features seemed rather too chiselled.

    'Unhealthy look'

"She looked almost like she was sucking her cheeks in," said an onlooker at the Japanese restaurant Nobu in Berkeley Street, Mayfair.

"She definitely did not look as healthy as she normally does."

Madonna, who last week became the oldest person ever nominated for a best pop act Brit, has been basking in plaudits for her latest album Confessions On A Dancefloor, one of her most popular for years.

But that doesn't mean she is taking it easy. She is in London to start filming the video for her latest single, Sorry, and is also busy making plans for a world tour.

She maintains a tough exercise schedule to keep her in shape, sticking to it even after breaking her collarbone and hand and cracking three ribs in a horseriding accident last year.

She does three hours of exercise a day, starting with Ashtanga yoga, followed by pilates, and then either swimming, weight training or cycling.

She recently revealed that her push for perfection was not solely her own doing.

It seems her husband Guy Ritchie also likes her athletic look. "I wish I were comfortable enough to look zaftig [a Yiddish word for a fuller-shaped woman]," she told Elle magazine.

"But I choose men who like carved-out women, the can-you-run-for-the-bus kind of guy. I'm naturally inclined toward men like that."

She just doesn't get it that her exercise bulimia is wrecking her health and making her arms look positively deformed (as we've shown with numerous photos).

Word is she's working like a fiend for her new video "sorry" and if she is you know we'll be seeing LOTS of skin so we can see just how hard she's been working
...look at me, how disciplined I am and how focused I am and strong I am yada yada yada. That was why she did Swept Away right after her tour because she thought she looked hot and we all know how that turned out .....lmao With so much in the media these days about false images being portrayed and airbrushed models and eating disorders, how like the queen of pomp to be the epitome of irrisponsibility but what else is new???? Maybe she really is sick, wouldn't that be Karma? but only the good die young so she'll be around forever...sigh

I actually watched parts of that film when it came on cable. Her manly bod and greasy hair were sights to behold.

Well now, she has to hang around to pose nude for a sequel to her "Sex" book when she's 85 years old so that she can prove that women over 50 can still be sexy. And think of the controversy. It will make Camille Paglia (if she's still around then!) so proud. :rolleyes2:

Yes, there was such a poll which named Man-donna the Best Working Mother of the Year. I pasted in links to stories about it in the "Rigged Polls" thread, which is in this forum :)

I wish they would actually talk to some women with JOBS instead of one who CHOOSES to spend all day on her own self. She certainly has enough money and investments, she does not need to spend all day looking in mirrors and posing in videos and ignoring her kids. She is truly psycho.

Just because you give birth and work doesn't make you a mother. Being involved in your children's lives, supporting them, and not paying an army of nannies to get them out of your hair makes you a mother. Noone can spend that much time away from their kids and expect to be a good parent.
