For those of you who know what I'm talking about, "they" no longer hate the U.S.- they hate Denmark, France, etc. and they're gonna kill 'em all! Or so they say. Burning, rioting, looting- "sacrilege!"they say. Uh-huh. Hey wait, doesn't that make THEM guilty of idolatry?

Oh gosh it does! Bad Them!

Funny thing is South Park did a whole half-hour cartoon and they didn't get burned to the ground. Not a peep out of one of one billion.

I guess animation is okay but political cartoons are not.

:confused: I seriously don't understand why the Islamic extremists are complaining about this. So what if people are depicting their "leader" in an unflattering light, but in a culture that doesn't respect free speech or equality for women, I shouldn't be surprised. Come on, I mean really.... they make themselves seem holy by waging war, and get pissed when a cartoonist actually observes that fact and exploits it? How two-faced is it to go to war in the name of their "God", then act like it's unholy to know it? Yeah, yeah... I heard... it's against their religion to even draw Mohammed :ask:

Pick a country to hate and stick with it people.

The worst part of all this? Just like in our own country, the normal caring people are drowned out by the extremists, which puts the whole Muslim world in a bad light.

I placed other links to this story in the "Islam: Censorship and Related Issues" thread, farther down the board.

The fanatical Muslims also get out raged over the cartoon character Piglet (from "Winnie The Pooh") and Burger King ice cream logos - see the thread "Islam: Censorship and Related Issues" for more info on those stories.

Some deaths have already resulted due to this insanity.

Muslim Anti-Cartoon Clashes Turn Deadly - San Francisco Chronicle

Excerpt:
  • Monday, February 6, 2006

    Afghan security forces opened fire on demonstrators Monday, leaving at least four dead, as increasingly violent protests erupted around the world over published caricatures of Islam's Prophet Muhammad. European and Muslim politicians pleaded for calm.

    The worst of the violence was outside Bagram, the main U.S. base in Afghanistan, with Afghan police firing on some 2,000 protesters as they tried to break into the heavily guarded facility, said Kabir Ahmed, the local government chief.

    Two demonstrators were killed and five were injured, while eight police also were hurt, he said. No U.S. troops were involved in the clashes, Ahmed said.

    Lebanon, meanwhile, apologized to Denmark a day after thousands of rampaging Muslim demonstrators set fire to the building housing the Danish mission in Beirut to protest the series of cartoons satirizing Islam's holiest figure.

Iron Shadow -

Haven't read through the whole thread yet, but I glimpsed this and thought you might find it funny too:
  • Saw this in Variety today...

    [...Danish government hires Mel Gibson to do "Passion of Mohammed."]

    Gibson is excited about the project and has signed Paul Reuben for the lead.
(Paul Reuben a.k.a. 'Pee Wee Herman')

If this were true, you could just imagine how nuts the extremist Muslims would go over such a movie :roll:

Someone farther down the blog linked to this:
Cartoon Violence Is Just a Smoke Screen For Islam’s Real Intentions

I've only just skimmed over part of it, and so far, I like that its author has managed to use the phrase "ass-backwardness" - and "Borgification of Europe" was good, too. :laugh:

Oh great, now some clowns got in on the act (note: some images and text at the following site are not "work safe"):

Everyone is Afraid to Criticize Islam (article)

Excerpts:
  • Ayaan Hirsi Ali, the Dutch politician forced to go into hiding after the murder of filmmaker Theo van Gogh, responds to the Danish cartoon scandal, arguing that if Europe doesn't stand up to extremists, a culture of self-censorship of criticism of Islam that pervades in Holland will spread in Europe. Auf Wiedersehen, free speech.

    .... SPIEGEL: But Muslims, like any religious community, should also be able to protect themselves against slander and insult.

    Hirsi Ali: That's exactly the reflex I was just talking about: offering the other cheek. Not a day passes, in Europe and elsewhere, when radical imams aren't preaching hatred in their mosques.

    They call Jews and Christians inferior, and we say they're just exercising their freedom of speech. When will the Europeans realize that the Islamists don't allow their critics the same right? After the West prostrates itself, they'll be more than happy to say that Allah has made the infidels spineless.
This is now a so-called "global crisis." All this idiocy over some silly cartoons.

Posted ImageProtests Over Drawings a 'Global Crisis'
  • Tue Feb 7, 11:22 AM ET

    COPENHAGEN, Denmark - Denmark's Prime Minister on Tuesday called protests over drawings of the Prophet Muhammad a global crisis and appealed for calm.

    "We are now facing a growing global crisis," Anders Fogh Rasmussen said. "It now is something else than the drawings in Jyllands-Posten."

    The Jyllands-Posten, a Danish paper, first published the drawings that have sparked violent protests in Muslim countries worldwide. They have since been reprinted in media around the world.

    Demonstrators in Afghanistan on Tuesday clashed with NATO forces, and three protesters were killed.

    "Now it has become an international political matter," he said. "I urge calm and steadiness."

    Outraged Muslim demonstrators, who have set fire to the Danish embassies in
    Syria and Lebanon and have held chaotic protests elsewhere, have demanded the Danish government apologize for the cartoons, which Jyllands-Posten printed in September.

Posted Image The Lying Danish Imams

Excerpt:
  • I just received a tip from a reader in Denmark with more info about the lying delegation of Danish imams who fabricated anti-Muslim artwork and pinned it on the Jyllands-Posten in December to stoke the jihadists. (See Scott Johnson's round-up at Power Line.)

    In addition to the fake drawings and photos and the other lies included in the Danish imams' propaganda pamphlet posted over at The Counterterrorism Blog, my reader reports that Danish radio has enumerated additional falsehoods.

    The imams reportedly spread lies that the Jyllands-Posten had 120 cartoons, not 12, and that the paper was owned by the government. (There are no state-run newspapers in Denmark.) In addition, the imams reportedly claimed that the Danish government would censor the Koran, burn the Koran, and that Danes were planning to make a blasphemous movie about Mohammed. (Brussels Journal and Jyllands-Posten had initial reports on these lies. See here and here.)
Also quoted on the Malkin blog:

Posted Image The Cartoon Hoax
  • When the Danish press discovered the three false so-called Danish cartoons, the imams refused to say where they had got them.

    They claimed, however, that the false cartoons were genuinely Danish and had been added to “give an insight in how hateful the atmosphere in Denmark is towards Muslims.”

    The Brussels Journal has always doubted whether the cartoons added by the imams were genuine. Whenever we mentioned them we explicitly wondered whether they were not “of the imam’s own making.”

    Certain Western mainstream media, however, such as the Australian network SBS and the British BBC authoritatively declared that the pigsnout was one of Jyllands-Posten’s cartoons.

    Yesterday an American blogger discovered where the “pigsnout Muhammad” comes from. It has no relation to Muhammad whatsoever, it is not even a cartoon, but a fax image of a photo of a French clown performing at a pig festival.

    Denmark is being punished at the instigation of radical imams because twelve cartoonists have depicted Muhammad. However, these imams created their own three Muhammad images.

    They have even presented a French clown as being Muhammad. Because the twelve JP cartoonists are not Muslims, the Muslim blasphemy laws do not apply to them. But these laws do apply to the imams. Consequently, these imams deserve death. They – and no-one else – depicted the prophet as a pig – the highest imaginable insult in Islam.

    ...Western papers and blogs that published the twelve cartoons were right to do so. If they had not published, no-one would have been able to ascertain that the pigsnout was not among them.

    If they had not published, the cheating, blasphemous imams would have got away with their lies. The public is served by information, never harmed by it.

    Let this be a lesson to the cowards of The Guardian, SBS, the BBC and the British and American mainstream media, who “out of respect” for Islam would have allowed blasphemous imams to get away with their gross insult of the prophet, with slander and libel, and with the violent acts which they instigated.

Iran daily holds contest for Holocaust cartoons - Reuters

Danish editor would publish Holocaust cartoons
  • Feb 8, 2006
    The Danish editor behind the publication of caricatures of the Prophet Mohammad that ignited deadly riots in the Muslim world, said Wednesday that he was trying to coordinate with an Iranian paper soliciting cartoons on the Holocaust.

    "My newspaper is trying to establish a contact with the Iranian newspaper, and we would run the cartoons the same day as they publish them," Flemming Rose said Wednesday in an interview on CNN's "American Morning."

    The Iranian newspaper Hamshahri said Tuesday that it would hold the competition to test whether the West extended the principle of freedom of expression to the Nazi genocide as it did to the caricatures of the Prophet Mohammad.

^ Be sure to see the post above this one, with other links and stories about this.

The longer this keeps dragging on, the more insane the fanatical Muslims look.

Do they even honestly know anymore why they're angry about the Mohammed cartoons, or do they really know who they're angry with?

Because originally, the cartoons were published in a secular Danish news paper in an effort to get artists to illustrate a children's book meant to instill tolerance of Islam.

That was last September (2005), but some Muslims are just now having a cow over it.

Some have surmised that the whole thing is a ruse to draw attention away from Iran's apparent attempt to make nuclear weapons (see the thread about "Iran in the News" for more on that).

Anyway - so a secular Danish newspaper prints these cartoon images of Mohammed a few months ago.

So extremist Muslims just now begin to have a fit over it and denounce Denmark and all of Europe, go on rampages, etc.

Next, an Iranian news paper started calling on artists to send them cartoons to print mocking the Holocaust - that was about, what, three - four days ago?

Then the other day one of them comes out and suggests that the whole thing (rioting over the Mohammed cartoons) is a Jewish Zionist conspiracy plot to make the Muslims look bad (what?!) -

- and now, these weenies are blaming Americans.

Even though the United States had nothing to do with it.

They can't even make up their minds who to be hacked off with, so they just pick all their usual enemies: Jews, Americans, Israel, Europe, etc., regardless of who is actually responsible for the cartoons. Amazing.

Cartoon Protesters Direct Anger at U.S.

Excerpts:
  • QALAT, Afghanistan - Police killed four people Wednesday as Afghans enraged over drawings of the Prophet Muhammad marched on a U.S. military base in a volatile southern province, directing their anger not against Europe but America.

    The U.S. base was targeted because the United States "is the leader of Europe and the leading infidel in the world," said Sher Mohammed, a 40-year-old farmer who suffered a gunshot wound while taking part in the demonstration in the city of Qalat.
These people are nuts.

At least this one guy sounds sane:
  • In Baghdad, Iraq's top Shiite political leader criticized attacks on foreign embassies by Muslims.

    "We value and appreciate peaceful Islamic protests," said Abdul Aziz al-Hakim. "But we are against the idea of attacking embassies and other official sites."
From another site:

Fight Hate With Humor
  • Do you have a talent to draw cartoons or do you know of someone who is talented? Are you interested in taking part in the global WUJS campaign against the policy of the Iranian government towards Israel and the Jews? [see link above for more info and to enter contest]
Interesting assessment:

Belmont Club Blog
  • "Yet the cartoon crisis has been cruelest to radical Islam because it has upset the timetable for the slow demographic conquest of Europe. It forced the crisis before the time was ripe to win an outright trial of strength.

    And it has deranged the carefully crafted plan to hold Europe politically neutral while the Islamists concentrated their force on their most dangerous enemy, the United States.

    Unless the Islamists can reverse or at least pause the process of confrontation it will find itself engaged on two fronts, against Europe and the United States simultaneously.

Quick, brief comment on this topic:

I think it was very THOUGHTLESS and UNWISE for the Danish newspaper to go ahead and publish those cartoons. The stated purpose given by the editors was to "test" their right to freedom of speech (presumbably in reaction to the encroaching threat of religious fundamentalism). Challenging or critiquing Islam is one thing but the line was crossed when the "freedom" was used to be deliberately offensive and inflammatory (I find it hard to believe that the news editors weren't educated to the fact that pictures of Mohammed/Allah were forbidden in Islam). There are Muslims in Denmark--not just immigrants but DANISH CITIZENS--who were upset by them. Did the Jyllands-Posten staff assume that they don't read the newspaper? Did they have any inkling that this action would create further tension within Danish society? I don't see the cartoons as initiation into honest dialogue about Islam...I see them as blatant provocation. Total insensitivity, totally in poor taste.

In the same breath, I deplore the out-of-control violence that erupted in this controversy's wake. Mind-boggling to see how the radical elements within Islam has influenced so many minds (many haven't even SEEN the cartoons...but not that they would want to anyway, being observant Muslims). The whole situation has given ammunition to the Islamicists to spew MORE of their hatred and twisted logic. It's just crazy and frightening to see how things are developing.

Summary:
This news story highlights two problems: the clashing of two different cultures, the power of fanaticism and the underlying racism/suspicion/hatred/misunderstanding shown towards Non-European ethnic groups. For all the claims of "progress" that Europe makes, this should be an eye-opener to the reality that they too have major problems that they helped to create and must confront.

I can maybe see the publication of the cartoons the second time around as being unwise.

Or not - if one backs down to fanatical Muslims, the Muslims view this as weakness. They respect people who use force and who stand their ground.

I do think that there was a sincere concern for freedom of speech on the part of the Europeans who re-printed the cartoons. They did not want the fanatics to dictate to them what they could and could not publish.

The cartoons were first published last fall, in 2005, and it is not until now that the rioting, etc. has broken out.

This has caused some to conclude that the imams (Muslim clerics, religious leaders) are deliberately fanning the flames for their own purposes - see the post I did directly above yours, Madame Duran's, for more on that.

The Muslim clerics even created, invented, some Mohammed cartoons in the past few days, lied about it, and said that those forged cartoons were created by Europeans, which they were not.

I do not see the same concerns for the feelings and beliefs of Jews and Christians as I usually see towards, say, Islam (this latest cartoon fiasco aside).

Judaism and Christianity are regularly lampooned and spat upon not only in cartoons in America and Europe, but also in t.v. shows and movies, the nightly news, and the secularists don't care.

One reason being that people know that Christians and Jews are not going to respond with bombing, arson, and beating - as are the extremist Muslims.

Someone wrote a spoof piece about this (while a spoof, it does contain some good - serious - points):
Jews Riot Over Pictures of Buddhist Symbol

------------- EDIT -----------
US says Syria, Iran stoke cartoons fury; more deaths

Excerpt:
  • Wed Feb 8, 2006
    By Sue Pleming

    WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The United States on Wednesday accused Iran and Syria of deliberately stoking rage among Muslims over cartoons depicting the Prophet Mohammad, as three people were killed in fresh protests in Afghanistan.

    "Iran and Syria have gone out of their way to inflame sentiments and to use this to their own purposes and the world ought to call them on it," U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice told a news conference. Both countries are at loggerheads with the West.

    U.S. President George W. Bush urged governments to stop the violence, including attacks on Western diplomatic missions in parts of the Muslim world.

    The deaths in the Qalat in the southern Afghan province of Zabul brought the number of Afghans killed this week to 10.
Are extremist fanning cartoon outrage?
  • The following day, protests against the Danish Embassy in Beirut turned into the stoning of a nearby Christian church.

    ...."They're (Syria) basically telling the West that we have a lot of potential for rage and anger and here is a sample of it, so stay away from us," said prominent Egyptian-American democracy advocate Saadiddine Ibrahim.

    .... "Other countries are having the same demonstrations, same problems - very violent demonstrations, starting peaceful, turning violent," Yonts said when asked if al-Qaida and the Taliban may have been involved.

    He said the United States and other countries would look to see "if this is something larger than just a small demonstration - if there is a tie to it, if there is an infrastructure, a connection to it."
Furor over cartoons appears to diminish
  • Feb 9, 2006
    No demonstrations took place in major Mideast and North African cities Thursday, suggesting that the fervor over the publication of cartoons depicting the Prophet Muhammad was easing. But a test may come after weekly Muslim prayers on Friday, when at least one large protest is planned, in Morocco.

    Muslim religious leaders and newspapers have been calling for calm, fearing the violence during protests over the past two weeks had only reinforced Islam's negative image in the West.

    The cartoons, first published in a Danish paper then reprinted in other European newspapers, sparked outrage across the Islamic world. Protests turned violent in recent weeks in Iran, Syria, Lebanon and Afghanistan.

    But many in the Middle East watched the stone-throwing, flag-burnings and attacks on European embassies with sorrow.
Taliban offer gold reward for killing Danish cartoonists

Excerpts:
  • The Secretary of State, Condoleezza Rice, also speaking on Wednesday, accused Iran and Syria of using the cartoons to incite violence. Dr Rice said she had no doubts that "Iran and Syria have gone out of their way to inflame sentiment and to use this to their own purposes, and the world ought to call them on it".

    Their comments came as a Taliban commander said the Taliban would give 100 kilograms of gold to anyone who killed the person responsible for "blasphemous" cartoons in Denmark, Afghan Islamic Press reported on Wednesday. The offer came after police in Afghanistan fired into a crowd of protesters, killing three, as they marched on a US base in Qalat City.

If it was unwise to publish the cartoons the second time, then how was it "wise" to publish them in the first place?

Quote:

By "standing their ground", the European papers that published the caricatures did not gain any greater respect from the Muslim community. The complete opposite happened. The fanatical became MORE fanatical (which comes as no surprise) and the NON-FANATICAL were further alienated by the insult. The cartoons went beyond solely targeting Islamic fundamentalists; it inflamed the entire Muslim world. Here's my concern: this insensitivity has setback the West from building bridges with the more moderate Muslim population. As a result of their anger, they may become more sympathetic to radical Islam's grievances and support its causes. Not a good sign.

Choosing to refrain from publishing those specific cartoons is NOT a sign of "weakness" nor an abandonment of 'freedom of speech'. It's an acknowledgement that the pictures were a gratuitous affront to ALL Muslims. Simply put, it was an exercise of prudent judgement. Freedom of speech shouldn't be a carte blanche for disrespect.

i dont see anything in those cartoons , and by the way who's seen the prophet anyways , do they have original photos to back the claim of the cartoons ,
they looked meaningless to me i did'nt really see the humour nor anything to generate the outburst that we see today.
its just a cow ,like said in the earlier post , just something to create more confusion, they cant keep on doing terrorrism so they found this way of trying to attack people they dont like , keeping terrorism on hold ( doesnt mean that they will not attack again ).

since i live in the middle east i see a whole lot of newspapers which depict other leaders or famous people ,for instance many cartoons are shown likewise of the president making his mockery too, in unlimited ways almost on a weekly basis ,(im not sideing with any government just an example ), and many others .now how can one react to this ?are all the ,born again christians, going to start now ?? no of course not , this is the real mockery and comparison .hahhahaahah

just recently an indian painter named M.F.Hussain painted a portrait of india and it had a naked women picturised on it , people in india didnt like it , the portrait was to be sold or displayed somewhere for charity .

one more point i forgot to add is that M.F.Hussain is a moslem and hes been paiting nude photos of all hindu deitys for the past many years , its not just recently , then have you heard of this 3 years ago or may be 5 years ago , were there any riots to such of a an extreme , like the danish one .
have you seen hindus grabbing necks of muslims and burning embassys an threatening to behead people , at a large scale , no ,

just something they want to do ,to attack people and show their power ,strength and wealth.

here is something i got in my inbox, the source is from some hindu society in america .
somebody who wrote this ,used to be a muslim and he is apparently telling what they teach each other , so this guy has converted from islam to another religion. at least thats what i perceived , check it out ?

I was born and raised as Muslim. My whole family is still Muslim . I
know every genetic code of Muslim. I know Islamic brain. I live and
breath with them. I am an insider. I left Islam when I understood
that Islam is a sick and evil religion. Following are the Islamic
message to the West.

To the infidels of the West:

Constitution for the new Islamic Republic of EU and USA is under
construction.
We will fight the infidel to death.
Meanwhile American laws will protect us.
Democrats and Leftist will support us.
UNO will legitimize us.
CAIR will incubate us.
ACLU will empower us.
Western Universities will educate us.
Mosques will shelter us
OPEC will finance us
Hollywood will love us.
Koffi Annan will pass politically correct sympathetic statement for
Jihadists.

Our children will immigrate from Pakistan, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Iran,
and Indonesia and even from India to the US and to the other Western
countries. They will go to the West for education in full
scholarship. America is paying and will continue to pay for our
children's educations and their upbringing in state funded Islamic
schools.

We will use your welfare system. Our children will also send money
home while they are preparing for Jihad.

We will take the advantage of American kindness, gullibility, and
compassion. When time comes, we will stab them in the back. We will
say one thing on the camera and teach another thing to our children
at home. We will give subliminal messages to our children to uphold
Islam at any cost. Our children in America will always care more
about Islamic Country's interest than US interest.

We will teach our children Islamic supremacy from the very childhood.
We will teach them not to compromise with Infidel. Once we do that
from the very early age our children won't hesitate to be martyr. We
will take over the Europe first and then US will be the next. We
already have a solid ground in the UK, Holland, Sweden, Spain, Italy,
Germany, and now in the US.

Our children will marry Caucasian in Europe and in America. We will
mixed with intricate fabric of the Western society but still will
remember to Jihad when time comes. Who are we?

We are the "sleeper cells".

We will raise our children to be loyal to Islam and Mohammad only.
Everything else is secondary.

At the time of the real fight we will hold our own children as our
armor. When American or Israeli troops shoot at us the world will be
watching. Imagine,… Imagine the news in the world "Death of Muslim
babies by infidels".

We know CNN, ABC, CBS are broadcasting live. Al-Jazeera will pour
gasoline on the fire. The news will spread like wildfire. "Americans
killed 6 babies, 10 babies". "Jews killed two women",

Keep your Nukes in your curio cabinets. Keep your aircraft carrier or
hightech weaponery in the showcase. You can't use them against us
because of your own higher moral standard. We will take the advantage
of your higher moral standard and use it against you. We won't
hesitate to use our children as suicide bomber against you.

Visualize the news flash all over the world, …Moslem mother is
sobbing, ….crying. ….Her babies are killed by Jews and Americans, the
whole world is watching live. Hundreds of millions of Muslims all
around the world are boiling. They will march through Europe. We will
use our women to produce more babies who will in turn be used as
armor/shield. Our babies are the gift from Allah for Jihad.

West manufactures their tanks in the factory. We will manufacture our
military force by natural means, by producing more babies. That is
the way it is cheaper.

You infidels at this site cannot defeat us. We are 1.2 billion. We
will double again. Do you have enough bullets to kill us?

On the camera:

We will always say, "Islam is the religion of Peace."

We will say, "Jihad is actually inner Jihad."

Moderate Muslim will say there is no link between Islam and Terrorism
and the West will believe it because the West is so gullible.

Moderate Muslim all over the world will incubate Jihadist by their
talk by defending Islam.

Using Western Legal system we will assert our Sharia Laws, slowly but
surely.

We will increase in number. We will double again.

You will be impressed when you meet a moderate Muslim personally. As
your next-door neighbor, coworker, student, teacher, engineer,
professionals you may even like us. You will find us well mannered,
polite, humble that will make you say, "wow, Muslims are good and
peaceful people", But, we will stab you in your back when you are
sleeping as we did on 911.

There will be more 911 in Europe and in America. We will say, "We do
not support terrorism but America got what it deserved."

Muslims, CAIR, ISNA, MPAC and other international Islamic
Organization will unite. We will partner with Leftist, ACLU, with
Koffi Annan, and the UN, and if we have to then even with France.
Fasten your seatbelt. The war of civilizations has just begun.

We will recite Quran and say Allah-Hu-Akbar before beheading
infidels, as we have been doing it. We will video tape those and send
it to all infidels to watch. They will surrender - ISLAM means
surrender.

We will use your own values of kindness against you.

You are destined to loose.

Must be very depressing for you. Isn't it?

Allah-Hu-Akbar

as we say just before beheading.

21st Century Islamic Warfare

Let's see the effectiveness of Islamic warfare.
Muslims Vs. the West.

THE RULE HAS CHANGED. There is new game in town.

Bill Clinton ordered 50 Tomahawks Cruise missiles costing
$100,000,000 each to destroy $50 mud houses that belonged to Osama's
family. What a stupidity? What a poor ROI (Return On Investment)

In return Osama's attack on the US.
Cost: 19 martyrs and less than $500,000.
Cost to the West: over 3,000 dead.

At least $1,000,000,000,000 (one trillion) dollars economical loss in
one year. This includes the ripple effect.

Osama's ROI with respect to: life = 3,000/19 = 158 fold.
Dollar = $1 tr./500K = 2,000,000 fold

That is modern warfare. The West will loose.

Allah-Hu-Akbar.
Islam will rule the world. There is nothing you can do. Even if the
per capita GDP of the world drops to half of its present level as a
consequence of Islamic laws in place all over the world but still
Islam will rule the word.

From your point of view we bring to the world to the dark ages, so be
it. But still Islam wins, West looses.

Are you sure you want to play this game?

Jihad, ..Jihad...Jeeehaaad...

You are destined to loose.

Allah-hu-Akbar

Saudi Arabia's $100 billion investment over the last 3 decades on
over 60 thousands Madrassas and school all over the Islamic world is
finally paying off. While the West was busy inventing medicine,
increasing life expectancy, elevating human suffering, decoding human
gene to find cure for Cancer, heart disease etc, launching space
shuttle, inventing internet, working on new laws/theory for human
rights, developing better economical models for a more prosperous
world, while ACLU was gaining control over common sense, while
American ingenuity was benefiting the rest of the world, we Muslims
were busy producing over 200 million out of 1.4 billion, Walking,
Talking, Non-Thinking, West-Hating, Pre-Programmed, Suicidal,
Parasitic, Terrorist Robots. You can't win. The Genie is out of the
bottle.

We will use American's kindness, fairness, compassion, freedom of
speech and non-discriminatory policy against them. We will stab them
in the back.

What are you going to do? You are doomed.

Cartoon riots in Jerusalem

At some point, the Muslims need to get over it.

The fact that they continue to drag this out for as long as they have says several things to me, one of which is that this was just a handy excuse for them to riot-

- it's also maybe to direct attention away from Iran's attempt to make a nuke:

Cartoon rage: Muslims not letting the anger fade
-------------------
Addressed to Madame Duran:
Quote:

and the NON-FANATICAL were further alienated by the insult
Unfortunately, I don't think there are that many Non-Fanatics.

See the thread in this forum entitled something like "Muslims who have denounced terrorism," and the thread "Curse of the Moderates"

If there are any "Non fanatical" Muslims (honestly, I don't know if there are or not, and if there are, what percentage of Islam they make up), then they would support the principle of the free press to print things they find offensive to their religion, whether they feel insulted or not.

The Non-Fanatics, if they exist, would be telling the fanatics to calm down, shut up, and to stop making all Muslims look like idiots.

(BTW, while I don't like it when the MSM or anyone bashes my spiritual beliefs, which they do pretty much non-stop, I still recognize their right to do so.)

The first time the cartoons were printed, it was to show artists that they could indeed depict Mohammed, and that they had the right to; that was the original intent.

And why did they do that? The whole thing began as a quest to get artists to sign up to illustrate a book for kids to teach tolerance of Islam.

So, I grant them that the first go 'round. Their intent and motivation appears to have been for noble purposes.

Publishing the same cartoons the second time, especially if objections were raised the first time (but it seems that objections were not raised until four - five months later), could be considered, perhaps, as being foolish.

The fanatical Muslims are extremely sensitive to any and all forms of criticism of their religion, ridiculously so. They seem to think that Mohammed and their religion is above any and all forms of criticism and scrutiny.

I think their political leaders and imams intentionally get the rank and file Muslims stirred up.

The extremist Muslims look for excuses to get worked up into a lather and "have a cow."

You can argue if it is wise or not to give them such excuses, I suppose.

I do not believe that the West should kow tow to the Islamic hyper sensitivity.

The fact is, we do have a free press in the West.

All religions get criticized and mocked in the West (although Christianity and Judaism have been the preferred targets), but notice that theirs (Islam) is one of the few where its adherents react in a violent manner in response to criticism / lampoon / satire.

~That does not mean, however, that people should refrain from publishing works that are critical of Islam or that offend Islamic sensibilities.

One does not usually, regularly, or consistently see Christians rioting, burning down buildings, etc. and sending out death threats against networks that air t.v. shows that lampoon Christianity or who publish "anti Christian" artwork.

The most one will see are groups of Christians writing strongly worded letters to their editors.

And, as Anshirk mentioned,
Quote:

one more point i forgot to add is that M.F.Hussain is a moslem and hes been paiting nude photos of all hindu deitys for the past many years , its not just recently , then have you heard of this 3 years ago or may be 5 years ago , were there any riots to such of a an extreme , like the danish one .

have you seen hindus grabbing necks of muslims and burning embassys an threatening to behead people , at a large scale , no ,
Clearly, there is a problem with certain segments of Islam, not just the Western media.

If it goes from we are not permitted to publish straight-forward images of Mohammed (some of the images published in the Danish paper were not even disrespectful of Mohammed!)

- then how long before we cannot publish cartoons, news paper editorials, web pages, t.v. shows that are critical of Islam itself (or actions of its followers)?

Because I can guarantee you that even politely worded, intellectual, respectable works which are critical of Islam also anger the extremists and cause violence.

The extremists issued a fatwa against author Salmon Rushdie over his Satanic Verses book years ago because his book exposed some of the warts of Islam.

A film maker in Europe (last name of Van Gogh) was killed by a Muslim (about a year or two ago) simply because he had made a film critical of how many Muslims abuse and rape women.

Would you say that Van Gogh should not have made such a film, since it resulted in violence?

Personally, I think it's imporant that abuse of Muslim women by some quarters of Islam gets reported, regardless of how many Muslims may riot and get upset over such coverage and publicity.

The Mohammed cartoon fiasco is simply another incident in a long line of incidents which demonstrate that some segments of Islam are intolerant, irrational, and incapable of living in a modern society, and that they cannot and will not co-exist peacefully with those who do not view Allah and Mohammed the same way they do.
Quote:

Choosing to refrain from publishing those specific cartoons is NOT a sign of "weakness" nor an abandonment of 'freedom of speech'.
But it is a sign of weakness from the view point of fanatical Muslims. I was not making a philosophical, abstract argument.

Based upon what I've read, it's how their culture, their religion, and mind-set works; it's a sociological hallmark of Islam and Islamic societies - it's not just "my opinion."

Muslims perceive "backing down" as a sign of weakness, and weakness as opportunity to over- take a culture / nation.

Muslim terrorists attacked Americans during the 1990s, overseas (American military targets - as well as an attempt to blow up the World Trade Center towers in the early or mid 1990s, which was of course on American soil) - under Democratic President Clinton's watch.

Clinton did not do much of anything - no retaliation.

And Clinton's lack of response was construed by the extremist Muslim communities that Americans were weaklings who would not defend themselves.

This, they felt, gave them the "green light" to be bolder and lash out at Americans some more.

Then along comes 9/11.

Muslims interpret weakness as a sign to attack more often and to attack harder.

The word "Islam" means "submission." They are taught to force people to "submit" to Allah/Islam - by threat of violence, the sword.

Or, you can live as a second class citizen under Islamic government.

Again, based upon what I've read of the Islamic mindset, if Europeans just back down and say, "Okay, we won't print anything that offends Muslims anymore, and we will issue many apologies for having printed the cartoons to begin with," they're actually inviting more violence down the line.

As Charles, owner of the LGF blog puts it in one blog entry,
  • Islamic Rage, Western Weakness

    It’s a day of Islamic rage, all over Europe. Appeasement has gotten Europe nothing— no good will, no forgiveness, only more rage —but Tony Blair is still at it: Muslims rally in Europe as worldwide cartoon protests rage on.

    It’s getting very depressing to see so many Western leaders who lack the courage to defend the core values of our civilization.
Then there's this
  • Our Friends the Saudis

    Apologies are not good enough, according to one of the top Islamic clerics in the world, in the heart of Islam’s “holiest” site. The cartoonists must be put on trial, convicted (a foregone conclusion), and severely punished. And then we must enact laws to prevent any further blasphemy: Saudi Cleric Demands Trial Over Drawings.
And this
  • Japan Appeases, Muslims Still Threatening

    Riding Sun reports that the Egyptian Ambassador to Japan has issued a not-very-veiled threat against Japan if the cartoons are published there: [snip article excerpt]
Still more
  • Islamist Writer: "Western Leaders Cringing and Begging"

    The cowardly appeasement and self-abasement of Western leaders and media in the face of Islamic threats and intimidation over the Danish cartoons has not gone unnoticed by Islamists—and it bodes very ill for the future: Modernity and protests by Muslims. (Hat tip: David.)

    [Excerpt from article:]
    -----
    .... The boycott of Danish goods has shown that the Muslim dollar has clout — Muslims are rich, by the way — and that the Muslim dollar can make or break Western economies.

    But beyond the spectacular aspect of these demonstrations and their equally spectacular results (leading to Western leaders cringing and begging for forgiveness on Arab-Muslim TV channels) we have lost sight of the issue itself and the real underlying problems that perhaps could have done with a little more academic interrogation.

I don't know enough about fossil fuels and alternatives to oil to give much of an opinion on that.

Yes, the double standards are eye-opening and maddening.

I did find this article - this article goes to show you can't always assume that a group of self-professing moderate Muslims are really moderates.

Terror link of 'moderate' Muslims at London rally

Excerpt:
  • By GORDON RAYNER,
    Daily Mail 08:52am 11th February 2006

    The Muslim campaigners behind a mass rally in Trafalgar Square [in London England] today have close links to Islamic terror groups, the Daily Mail can reveal.

    Despite promoting itself as the ‘moderate’ voice of Islam, the Muslim Association of Britain includes a former military commander of Hamas, the Palestinian organisation behind dozens of suicide bombings in Israel.

    The Association has also been described in Parliament as the British wing of the Muslim Brotherhood, the banned Egyptian group whose former members include Osama Bin Laden.

    The revelations raise serious questions about support given by London Mayor Ken Livingstone to the rally, expected to attract 10,000 protesters against cartoons of Mohammed published in European newspapers. He hosted a press conference at his offices on Thursday to promote the demonstration as a chance to air the views of moderate Muslims.

    However, Labour MP Louise Ellman said the MAB was an ‘extremist’ group whose members repeatedly advocated suicide bombings in Israel.

    “They are an extremely dangerous organisation,” she said. “Leading members of MAB have indicated their links with Hamas and their support for suicide bombings abroad. It is not tenable for a group to support suicide bombings in another country while expecting to be seen as moderate in this country.”

    Mike Whine, of the Community Security Trust, which monitors anti-Semitic behaviour, said: “The leading members have close links with the Muslim Brotherhood and have been active in anti-Jewish propaganda. We are worried about their increasing influence within the Muslim community.”

    Azzam al-Tamimi - a Palestinian described yesterday by the MAB as one of its leading political thinkers - caused outrage 18 months ago when he told the BBC he would willingly carry out a suicide bombing in Israel. “Sacrificing myself for Palestine is a noble cause,” he said. “It is the straight way to pleasing God and I would do it if I had the opportunity.”

its all getting dumb you know ,( im trying to tell the same thing ,but giving more detail)

i said at the beginning of the thread they were pulling off some danish
drink of the shelf ,
well it wasnt even danish at all, in the first place , it was a pure
arab
company manufacturing juice and just had a name danish labelled on it .
(to
say they manufactured something equivalent to danish products and their
quality)
thats all .

the people who pulled the product off the shelf didnt even think twice
.

and for no reason what-so-ever the company got banned and incurred
losses .
they do it to each other ,the same way ,

about the imams who printed the additonal cartoons and framed the
others .
same as iran holding a contest on cartoons on holocaust

they talk about themselves being insulted, if they have freedom of speech of doing the
same
thing , when in the first place- they dont give others freedom of
speech ,
and going around threatening people.
they dont want to come out of their primitive state .
how can others live with them .
one thing i would like the people to know is that hinduism dates back to 1.9 million years .
since that time there has been atleast 6 incarnations of god ,

it is the mere opposite-ness of the islam teachings to not be allowed to draw the figure of their god.
where as in hinduism it is permitted . they worship the moon and their fasting is related with the moon .

while hindus worship the sun and our fasting beliefs depend upon the sunrise .
now to believe such stupid drawing as some god like figure is itself stupidity. now if we draw , a hindu diety in an insulting manner am i going to believe it is the figure of it?
thats dumb ,
first of all i dont know really what they look like in the first place then where does the chance of getting angry / or giving a hoot about it in the first place.
if i want to believe it is the drawing , then its up to me .if i see a good drawing of course i will respect it .
the riots and behaviour of the fanatic muslim itself indicate what the cartoons depict .

then what are they really shouting about ?

what about how the taliban or who ever they were demolished the buddha statues in afghanistan there were three of them , where are they now reduced to rubble ?

did the buddhists come out to riot either , what about their insult by afghanis , did the other islamic countries intervene to stop that ,

now what did buddhists do to islam? can anybody answer !!!!! im not a buddhist, they go around beheading people no ,blowing up embassys
then whats in that f***ing cartoon !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
what in the hell is going on !!!!!!!!!!!
ignorant jerks of society .

Oh really? I hadn't heard that. I did hear something about some shops pulling Danish bottled drinks, but that was it.

Yes, the double standard is glaringly obvious and annoying.
Quote:

they [Muslims] worship the moon and their fasting is related with the moon .
Yes, I've read in places that the origins of Islam go back to some ancient moon deity - which is why Muslims use the crescent moon shape as the symbol of their religion.

Another thing I found interesting, which Rushdie discussed in his book The Satanic Verses (and which I've read of in other books) - originally, Mohammed, the founder of Islam, tried to get his tribe to believe in monotheism (one God).

This could be in part to the fact that Mohammed (according to some information I've read) that Mohammed basically "ripped off" Judaism. He got some Jews to allow him to read their Scriptures, which is what he based some of the Koran on.

Anyway, Mohammed's people didn't like the idea of monotheism, they preferred to worship multiple gods. So to entice them to follow him, he changed his religious teachings.

He went to some popular shrine to see what the most popular gods were, and he found that the locals were very much drawn to 3 goddesses (I think they were considered to be daughters of some god).

So Mohammed changed his teachings to say that it was permissible to worship the 3 female deities. When this new teaching didn't entice anyone, Mohammed scrapped the 3 goddesses teaching and went back to teaching that Allah alone was god.

Fanatical Muslims are also harassing, physically abusing, and killing Christians in some parts of the world.

I've also seen televised news reports that some of these Muslims are burning down or blowing up Christian church buildings overseas.

In another news report I saw, the Christians were being so badly persecuted by Muslims and had been taking it for such a long time, they snapped and struck back. The government / police had not been protecting the Christians, so I guess they felt they needed to protect themselves. I don't recall what country this took place in.
Quote:

I can understand and empathize with a person of any faith feeling insulted if they think their religion / religious symbol(s) have been depicted disrespectfully, but I so do not understand the (extremist) Muslim penchant to act out in violence over it.

You're always going to have anti-religious bigots and wise guys who will mock religion. The anti-religious bigots do so primarily because they hate religion, and the wise guys get a kick out of making religious people angry.

We're always going to have these kind of people around, and the Muslims need to learn to tune them out, or at least not react in violence.

According to some news reports, some Muslims are protesting peacefully.

Here are a few more links about the situation:

At least 10 killed in Libya cartoon riot
  • Feb 17, 2006

    TRIPOLI, Libya - Libya suspended its interior minister Saturday, citing an "excessive use of force" in riots the day before that left at least 10 people dead in the bloodiest protest yet against the Prophet Muhammad cartoons roiling the Muslim world.

    The controversy claimed another political casualty in Italy as Reforms Minister Roberto Calderoli offered his resignation after wearing a T-shirt featuring the drawings, a provocative move blamed for Friday's protests at the Italian consulate in the Libyan city of Benghazi, in which at least 10 people were killed.

    In eastern Pakistan, police opened fire on a mob trying to burn down shops, the latest in a spate of cartoon protests that have killed five people in the conservative country. At least four people were injured in the city of Chaniot, said police officer Mohammad Ishaq.

    .... "We want that those who drew these blasphemous cartoons to be hanged," Aysha Munawar, a senior party leader, told the crowd.

    In London, more than 10,000 people joined an angry but peaceful protest against the drawings. "Free speech cheap insults," read some placards.

    .... At least 29 people have been killed in protests across the Muslim world, according to a count by The Associated Press.

    Also Saturday, some 1,000 Muslims protested peacefully in Indian-controlled Kashmir, carrying banners reading "We love our Prophet" and "Down with enemies of Islam."
Curfew imposed after deadly Nigeria cartoon riot
  • Feb 18, 2006
    Police in Nigeria have imposed a curfew on the northern city of Maiduguri after a mob angry over European cartoons of the Prophet Muhammed torched churches and killed 15 people.

    It began with a peaceful demonstration organised by Islamic groups against the cartoons of the Prophet.

    Witnesses say demonstrators were chanting "Allah Akhbar" or "God is great" when police fired tear gas to disperse the crowd.

    As they fled, mobs attacked churches and businesses owned by the Christian minority in the city.
Cartoon Riot: Islamic Group Condemns Crisis

Excerpts:
  • March 4, 2006
    An organisation, Crite-rion, which is made up of Muslim Women in Business and the Profession has called on Muslims in Nigeria to put a stop to all forms of violent protests, occasioned by the cartoon in a Danish newspaper depicting Prophet Muhammed (SAW).

    Rising from its quarterly national Executive Meeting held in Ilorin, Kwara State weekend, the group condemned the orgy of violence, killings and massive destruction of properties of Muslims and non-Muslims during the protest that took place in some North and South-eastern parts of the country.
~~~ EDIT ~~~
Al Qaeda’s Zawahri calls for strikes against West.
  • As well as physical attacks on the West, Zawahri, who is deputy to al Qaeda’s leader Osama bin Laden, called for an economic boycott against several countries.
    “It is our duty to take part in a mass economic boycott of Denmark, Norway, France, Germany, and all countries that take part in this crusader attack against Islam,” he said, referring to the cartoons first published in a Danish newspaper last year.
    He described the cartoons as part of a U.S.-led “crusader” campaign. “An example of the hatred of the crusaders led by America ... are the repeated offences against the personality of the Prophet Mohammad, may peace be upon him,” Zawahri said.
Incredible - how can it be a "U.S. - led crusader campaign" (I'm surprised he didn't toss in the Jews / Israel, too) when the stupid cartoons were printed in a Danish paper?!?
Self-imposed censorship in the U.S.A.:
The Islamic Double Standard
  • CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) — A student’s column in the Oregon State University campus newspaper has prompted protests by Muslim students, who say it is offensive to their faith.
    The piece headlined “The Islamic Double Standard” was written by OSU microbiology student Nathanael Blake and published in the Daily Barometer on Feb. 8.
    The column accused Muslims of expecting special treatment after a Danish newspaper published cartoons depicting the prophet Muhammad. Riots over the cartoons amounted to “savagery,” Blake said. “Bluntly put, we expect Muslims to behave barbarously,” his column said.
    On Thursday, about a dozen students — including members of Muslim and Arab student groups — held a vigil on the campus to protest both Blake’s piece and the Danish cartoons. They handed out flyers that stated “While staying loyal to the main values of freedom of expression that founded this country, we also feel the need to reflect on the values of tolerance and acceptance on this campus.”
    .... "The pain that it [the newspaper column] caused ... did not subside with time,” said DD Bixby, the Barometer’s editor-in-chief. “It kind of just festered.”
    She said editors have been checking copy with Muslim students, and on Tuesday deleted one paragraph from a piece scheduled to be published the next day.
