Madonna’s much-hyped “duet “ with Gorillaz was little more than a brief interaction between the singer and the cartoon group. (Though I’ll admit that the three-dimensional rendition of Gorillaz was rather impressive.) The impression was given that Madonna would sing with the group. In fact, they each performed separate tracks. A lame opening that foreshadowed the rest of the evening.

This from the Village Voice:

8:02: The Madonna/Gorillaz experiment somehow ends up with big show-opening spot, and the Gorillaz' holograms look straight Shrek. De La Soul gets about thirty seconds of live primetime to laugh maniacally. I'm not sure why they'd have Madonna even come out with the holograms when they disappear seconds after she comes out to make room for people krumping. Madonna, it must be said, looks more like a computer-generated image than any of the Gorillaz

Grammy Hits and Misses

MISS

The opening number. Oh, Madge. Where oh where is my beloved '80s pop icon? From the Barbarella poses to the Olivia Newton-John bodysuit to the anatomically correct animated figures looming behind her, I couldn't tell what age or species she wanted to be. The Gorillaz song is brilliant, the Madonna song is average at best and seeing her bony frame doing 'the hustle' with dancers half her age made me long for the days when she would simply writhe around on the ground in wedding dresses.

MISS

Bad hair, worse fashion. The too-blonde tresses of Kelly Clarkson, Madonna with her Farrah Fawcett bangs and Beyonce-dream-of-Jeannie are all reasons to fire stylists. Jennifer Love-Hewitt looked like she belonged on Laugh-In, Kanye West was apparently trying to bring back the fad of recreational gloves and the companion of John Legend (who got more air time than some of the nominees) looked like a walking fire hydrant. Where's Boy George when you need him?

Anna_L: I feel your pain.

I came across a bunch of Grammy photos that accompanies Yahoo's Entertainment headlines. There are several photos of Madonna in an all black outfit (none of which have been posted here as yet). Photo #355 has a horrid shot of grannyarmitis. I was looking through all the pictures of the female celebrities with their elegant dresses then came shots of Madonna--not feminine or sexy at all. Just her wrinkly, old poseur self. What an embarrassment.

You can watch the slide show of photos here. The Madonna pics in black are somewhere between photos #325 to #360.

**edit**
Check out photo #43 (Kevin Federline and Britney Spears). Is this not the epitome of white trash? Kevin, for pete's sake...YOU ARE AT THE GRAMMYS, not stopping for some take-out at a burger joint!!! Gah! He's so uncouth!!!

Thanks for the heads-up on the new Man-donna photos, Madame Duran. I found copies on a fan site, madonnalicious.com. So far, I don't see them on "Drowned Madonna," and I haven't been to "Madonna Tribe" today.

I found one or two new things about Madonna's performance at the Grammys, some of it negative,

U2 steals Mariah Carey's spotlight at Grammys
  • Feb. 9, 2006, 11:49AM
The night was scheduled to begin with a collaboration between Madonna and Gorillaz, but in reality the animated electro-pop quartet, appearing as 3D holograms, did little more than introduce the disco diva with a few bars of their hit song Feel Good Inc. before she launched into a lavish performance of her recent club hit Hung Up.

The emphasis on the nomination-less Madonna over the best pop collaboration with vocals Grammy winners Gorillaz did nothing to help the Recording Academy shed its reputation as a voting body that has trouble keeping up with trends and letting go of past idols. Idols like the oft-awarded U2.
Mariah, Madonna and many mixed-up matchups

Excerpts:
  • Posted on Thu, Feb. 09, 2006
.... Faring only slightly better was Carey's longtime rival, Madonna. Though she wasn't nominated for a single award, the Material Mommy reportedly demanded she open the show, much to the dismay of Carey.

The resulting, heavily hyped collaboration between Madonna and cartoon hip-hop band Gorillaz — like most of the evening's head-scratching matchups — turned out to be a cheat. Gorillaz played a shortened version of the Grammy winning "Feel Good Inc.," followed by Madonna huffing and puffing her way through "Hung Up." A duet? Not really, no. (And Carey could go home happy knowing she didn't look as horrific as Madge and her lavender corset-and-leotard ensemble.)
Grammy Highs and Lows
  • Most confusing opening song — ever: As the telecast opened, 3-D animations of the cartoon hip-hop/rock hybrid band Gorillaz "played" before De La Soul and Madonna emerged, seemingly out of nowhere, to duet with the imaginary group. Anyone who follows the Gorillaz' surreal (and somewhat under the radar) career got it. The rest of America likely issued a collective, "Huh?"
Grammy Awards Ceremony Fail to Ignite
  • As usual, the pre-show hype failed to translate to much real sizzle at the Grammy Awards.

Go to gettyimages.com and search "Madonna." There are many Grammy pics of her there. I almost feel sorry for her. She's a mess. The Farrah hair, the oversized muscles. Her eyes popping out, because her face has gotten so thin and sunken. Her make-up looks terrible. If she wasn't such an egotistical b*tch, I would really feel sorry for her. But since she is...who cares.

I'll merge this thread with the one already on the board about Madonna at the Grammys. I too quoted from the "Lame Opening" review in that thread :)

EDIT. Found this brief review,

They reported on Star Daily that Mariah Carey boycotted the first five minutes of the show because of Mad-donna opening. This as why when they announced the nominees for best female singer you didn't see Mariah in the audience.

Here's kind of a weird article:

Madonna censored in Malaysia
  • 10/02/2006 - 08:16:21 Madonna’s performance was struck from Malaysia’s television broadcast of the Grammy Awards because her skimpy outfit and steamy dance moves were too risque for audiences in the Muslim-majority nation, a network official said today.

Madonna’s performance was struck from Malaysia’s television broadcast of the Grammy Awards because her skimpy outfit and steamy dance moves were too risque for audiences in the Muslim-majority nation, a network official said today.

.... The rest of the telecast wasn’t censored, but Madonna’s barelegged leotard attire and sexy gyrations were “too much of a risk for us to take if we tried to show it,” the official said.

In her Grammy performance of her recent hit, Hung Up, Madonna, 47, writhed on-stage with her background dancers, both male and female, to a throbbing disco beat.

Television shows and movies screened in Malaysia must abide by a strict censorship code that forbids sex, graphic violence and provocative handling of topics such as race and religion.
Another recent article:

Diva Madonna demands top billing at Grammys
- haven't looked at it myself. Probably a re-hash of the alleged Mariah-Madonna bickering, I'd imagine.

I can't wait for the day when they won't even let her through the door.

Jay Leno joked last night that they should have called it the "Grannies" because of mandona.

I saw it- it was the gay club act that she did for the single- the song is a JOKE. It is '70's elevator music. She was stiff and arthritic-looking, and when she was down on the floor, one of the dancers had to literally pull her back on her feet, with her visibly spasming from stiffness. Her thighs were enormous and her midsection is too thick for her to be wearing an outfit that accentuates it.

Can't imagine what it'll be like a year from now when she's got yet more sh!t to peddle. If she lasts that long.

The text in the scan above reads in part:
  • [From The Daily Star]
Grammy fright night for Teri and Madonna

But she [actress Teri Hatcher] wasn't the only celeb to suffer a fashion failure at the bash in Los Angeles.

It looked like Queen of Pop Madonna, 47, had forgotten her skirt as she took to the stage opening up the show with her hit Hung Up.

She showed off her toned figure in a mauve coreset, twinkly leotard and bizarre fishnet tights that only reached down to her knees.

- notice the tabloid drew a big, yellow arrow pointing out that her leg looks deformed in this photo  -

In an article ("Golden Oldies Triumph at America's Music Awards") (hosted on fan site blog entry) from The Times about the Grammys, there was this odd comment:
  • The dance music category has been removed from the Brit Awards next week after the organisers decided that it was a musical genre in creative decline.
- maybe I meant "funny" and not "odd."

What does that attitude say about Maodnna - who is supposedly the Queen of Dance Music, who has just released a dance album (COAD), but some group of musical big-whigs still thinks that dance is a dying genre?

Madonna's COAD album can't be that great if it couldn't inject a spark into a genre that is in "creative decline."

Ooh, her poor assistants had to calm down Granny:

It has been a whirlwind of a week with Madonna performing at the Grammy's. I hope you all enjoyed the performance. Backstage at the Grammy's, Madonna's assistants and stylist spelled her name out in roses on the floor to help her feel less nervous about the upcoming performance. Even so, at the last minute some crystals fell off of her Miu Miu shoes and the stylist was on the floor gluing them back on! Luckily, the girls pulled it off just in time for Madonna to join the Gorillaz on stage for this epic performance. After the show, there was a party in Madonna honor where her and her friends danced all night and celebrated their success.

:ask: Would that be "Hag" or "Grannny?"

And we're supposed to believe that she's super independent, nerves of steel, she's tough? :rolleyes2:

I don't really care so much if she has moments of insecurity, failure, and weakness (who doesn't?), but she built this persona of herself as "Infallible Tough Chick," and her fans and some journalists perpetuate that mythology - that's what I find annoying.

Now I have to get off the board to go eat some spaghetti. :)

Madonna
Madonna reportedly has had some cosmetic surgery on her face. But it certainly didn't make her a cut above the rest. The pop star's cheeks look more caved in than a West Virginia coal mine. It's very unnatural looking. In fact, she's starting to look like Gloria Swanson in Sunset Boulevard. Except, please, no close-ups, Mr. DeMille.

Ha, ha..this is exactly what I posted a few months back.

Who want to meet hag?

Sam Sparro-Link

Not too mad about Maddy
February 08, 2009 12:00am

AUSSIE pop singer Sam Sparro may be forced to eat a large slice of humble pie if he meets Madonna at the Grammy Awards tomorrow.

Sparro is up against the Material Girl for best dance recording with his breakthrough hit song Black And Gold.

The 26-year-old, who released the song and his self-titled debut album last year, made headlines for describing Madonna as "wretched, vulgar and vile".

Sparro was slightly less outspoken, but sticking to his original comments, when he chatted to Insider from Los Angeles last week.

Kylie, Sammy up for Grammys

"I've been a fan of Madonna in the past, but I'm not a fan of the new record," he said. "It's alright, whatever."

Asked what he would say if he got to meet Madonna, he said he would ask her about her plastic surgery. Yeah, right, that should go down well.

"Oh my God, I love your new face, it's so awesome," he joked.

Sparro was more modest when it came to his chances of securing a much coveted Grammy.

As well as Madonna, he's also up against Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Daft Punk and Hot Chip.

"I'm not expecting to win at all," said Sparro, who is planning to wear an Alexander McQueen-designed black and white suit up the red carpet.

Insider's hot tip is Lady Gaga to take out the gong.

Sparro won't have too much time to party after the Grammys as he'll be jumping on a plane for next Saturday's Good Vibrations Festival in Sydney at Centennial Park.

That will be his last performance before he begins work on the all-important second album.

"It's going to be a bit of a departure from the first one - a lot more guitars and live, a bit more punky, a bit more raw, but still quite dancy," he explained.
