This is both good and bad news. Good because she won't be tormenting people with her bad acting, and bad that it takes away one more thing I can laugh at.

Madonna Quits Acting
  • Mar 8, 2006

Madonna has vowed never to star in another movie, because she fears her terrible acting reputation will condemn any film.

The pop superstar has worked on a string of notorious flops including 'Shanghai surprise', 'Swept away' and 'Body of Evidence'.

She explains: "What film can survive people saying it's going to be a bomb from the second it's announced?

"Making movies is such an effort, and to do that over and over again, with the possibility that I am going to get the (bleep) kicked out of me - and they really enjoy doing it - I mean, it doesn't make sense.

"I have sort of let it go."

She's been saying lately she wants to move from acting to directing. I'm sure people will be predicting a bomb for anything that has her as a director.

Usually films that contain skilled actors or interesting storylines that convince people otherwise. Of course, Madonna's movies aren't interesting nor is her acting well-skilled so she wouldn't know different.

Hmm...The Passion of the Christ comes to mind. I reckon it did pretty well at the box office considering that most critics slammed it for one reason or another.

When comedians such as Jim Carrey and Robin Williams decided to go for more dramatic roles, they managed to win over a skeptical audience who felt their reputations as funnymen couldn't pull the acting off.

Actually, I think Adam Sandler is a better actor than Madonna. I personally can't stand his unbearable goofiness but "The Wedding Singer" at least made me laugh (in a good way). Way to go, Sandler!

This has to be one of the most poorly translated articles I've ever seen:

Madonna stops his career

The references to Madonna as "his" and "it" is funny. They're not even consistent - in some spots, they refer to her as "her."
  • Madonna stops his actress's career...

His film appearances not having ever caused would it be only a semblance of shiver of joy the part of the cinema enthusiasts (or of dread perhaps?), Madonnadecided to stop expenses: the 7th art, it is ended for her...

It doesn't much matter that it acquires one Golden Delicious Globe of the best actress for its role in Avoided, the Madonna especially accepted the trifle of seven Razzie Awards in the course of her actress's career of which that, not very envied, of " the worst actress of the century "! And this, this means a lot...

Madonna will concentrate therefore on music, thing which she makes very well, and her ultimate intrusion in the cinema will be to play in Arthur's adaptation and Minimoys, of Luke Besson.

But it will lend only its voice...

~~ EDIT BELOW ~~
Hey, I thought she promised to give up acting. Now I see these headlines - it wouldn't be the first time she flip flops on something and behaves like a hypocrite.

Oh, wait, it's supposed to be another crock-u-mentary, one about her Confessions of an Old Whore Tour:

Ritchie To Film Madonna - from Teen Music

Guy Ritchie to Film Madonna - from Hollywood.com

From Teen Music:
  • May 1, 2006

British director Guy Ritchie is making another film with his wife Madonna - in their first collaboration since 2002's cinematic disaster Swept Away.

The Snatch film-maker is planning to make a behind-the-scenes documentary of Madonna's Confessions On The Dance Floor tour, which kicks off in Los Angeles.

A source says, "Things have been rocky between them of late, and they both feel this will give them something to concentrate on outside their relationship."
EDIT ---

I think this story started out as a P.R. release:
Guy Ritchie to Direct Madonna, from PR Insider - and it was listed as being a PR releas e in the search engine result page.

Madonna Quits Acting
  • August 14, 2006

Pop legend Madonna has vowed never to star in another movie, saying she fears her terrible acting reputation will condemn any film she appears in.

According to news published on the Contact Music web site, Madonna, whose films have been canned by media and movie critics, made the decision to end her acting career because of critic’s preconceived notion that her films are disasters.

The 47 year-old pop star, irritated by the failure of Swept Away directed by her husband Guy Ritchie, said she would focus strictly on music from now on.

During her Confessions World Tour, Madonna explained the reason behind her decision, saying, "What film can survive people saying it's going to be a bomb from the second it's announced? Making movies is such an effort. And to do that over and over again, with the possibility that I am going to get the (bleep) kicked out of me - and they really enjoy doing it - I mean, it doesn't make sense. Please, please let this just be a really bad rumor that never comes to pass.

Madonna wants to remake Casablanca - and of all the places in all the world, she plans to set it in war-torn Iraq
  • By CAROLINE GRAHAM - More by this author » 29th March 2008

It is one of the greatest films of Hollywood's golden era, a triple Oscar-winning classic with electrifyingly charismatic stars and a script bursting with memorable lines.

But now Madonna has stunned the movie industry with plans to remake Casablanca – and this time set it in Iraq.

The singer, whose previous film career has been littered with critical and commercial turkeys, is also planning to take the lead role of Ilsa Lund, which originally made a star of Ingrid Bergman.

A source at a major Hollywood studio that was recently approached by the 49-year-old star said: "She is still determined to make it in the movies.

"She and her representatives have been touting around a project which is a remake of Casablanca. The reception has been lukewarm to say the least. No one can understand why she wants to redo what many people consider the greatest film of all time."

In the 1942 original, Bergman starred opposite Humphrey Bogart, who played Rick Blaine, a cynical bar owner in the Moroccan city of Casablanca in the early days of the Second World War. Ilsa is torn between love for her husband, a Czech Resistance leader, and her ex-lover Rick.

Madonna is said to believe the film will make her reputation as an actress, after a string of high-profile flops such as Shanghai Surprise, Body Of Evidence and Swept Away, her much-derided 2002 collaboration with husband Guy Ritchie.

The source said: "Madonna is talking about taking the Ingrid Bergman role for herself, even though Bergman was in her 20s when she played Ilsa and Madonna is nearly 50.

"She wants to update the story and maybe set it in a modern war zone such as Iraq. There is no script yet.

"Madonna and her people are testing the waters to see if this is the right vehicle for her and if a major studio will get behind the project."

....Bollywood filmmaker Rajeev Nath is also said to be working on a remake set in India, calling it "a tribute to the original".

A spokeswoman for Madonna refused to comment.

And here's how she might 'improve' the classic script

Of all the Kabbalah meetings in all the towns in all the world, she walks into mine.

Here's looking at you, kid. Now who do we have to pay to adopt him?

We'll always have Basra... I think this is the beginning of a beautiful fitness regime...

I stick my neck out for nobody - just in case they see the wrinkles.

It doesn't take much to see that Saddam's Weapons of Mass Destruction arsenal didn't amount to a hill of beans in this crazy world.

If you watch this remake, you'll regret it. Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but soon and for the rest of your life.

#1 mandona hater

it's another load of ca-ca from the great quivering tower of steaming ca-ca named mandona. file it under "free publicity dreamed up by mandona's prozac drones and slipped under her bathroom door for her to have with her double latte as she sits on her solid gold toilet having a dry crap to the sounds of a string quartet playing hitler's favorite Wagner selections".

but wouldn't it be great- mandona & asskissers swarmed by waves of howling frenzied moslems pushed past the brink of sanity by her intrusion.

oh wait, I can see it now: "mandona demands free bodyguards for life from state department after moslems threaten her and her children and goober over movie".

Watch out for her interview in Vanity Fair and her upcoming album!!!!

You know how Madonna was quoted as saying she wants to be a great director like Jean Luc Godard (Madonna's Movie Making Obsession)?

I watched a Godard film last night (part of it) - Contempt, made in 1963.

It was one of those weird European films with a lot of flowery, stupid, sexual non-talk ("I remember when we made love so jubilantly" - :rolleyes2: ) and had lots of shots of Brigitte Bardot's naked ass.

Color me unimpressed with Godard.

Also -
I hate the mentality that stuff like "naked ass = high brow art."

Or that "European / English spoken with French accent" automatically = "high brow / intelligent / meaningful."

There is hope for Madonna's acting career, if she could get everyone who's ever viewed her in a movie to take one of these pills:

Pill Could Erase Bad Memories
  • Robert Roy Britt
    Editorial Director
    LiveScience.com robert Roy Britt
    editorial Director
    livescience.com – Mon Feb 16, 12:10 pm ET

Scientists have discovered a drug that could erase fearful memories in humans .

The method, using existing blood pressure pills, could be useful for weakening or erasing bad memories in people with post-traumatic stress disorder, the researchers say.

Unfortunately, other research has shown, bad memories stick better than good ones.

Studies in animal models have shown that fearful memories sometimes change when recalled, a process known as reconsolidation, and that this reconsolidation stage is vulnerable to the blood pressure drugs, called beta-adrenergic receptor blockers.

In the new study on humans, by Merel Kindt and colleagues at University of Amsterdam in The Netherlands, 60 subjects were taught to associate pictures of spiders with a mild shock , creating a fearful memory. Later, they were given either a beta-blocker called propranolol or a placebo.

The group given propranolol had a greatly decreased fear response to the spider pictures 24 hours later, according to a synopsis of the work from the journal Nature Neuroscience. And the fear response did not return, suggesting that their fear memory was completely erased.

Mankdonna, in the Filth and Failure movie booklet, misspelled many of the directors she's pretended to watch and be "inspired by" in becoming a piss poor straight to video director.

Madonna wanted to produce 'Precious':smoking:

London, November 8 : Madonna was declined from producing acclaimed new movie 'Precious', author Sapphire has revealed.

Sapphire said the Queen of Pop was eager to be associated with the film adapted from 1996 novel Push.

Madonna was almost Mariah Carey's boss on acclaimed new movie Precious - the pop superstar was among the first people to show an interest in adapting author Sapphire's gritty drama into a film.

'There was this really earnest college student with his backpack on who wanted to do his first film, and then Madonna wanted to produce it,' the Daily Express quoted Sapphire as telling Entertainment Weekly magazine.

'I was like, 'Madonna? I don't think this is her film,'' she added.

The post finally went to moviemaker Lee Daniels who managed to convince her with his credentials.

Madonna Could Be Back On The Screen Soon- LINK

We might be seeing Madonna back on the big screen soon.

She says wants to relaunch her movie career.

The '4 Minutes’ singer – who has starred in a string of cinematic flops, including 2002’s 'Swept Away’ which saw her and then-husband Guy Ritchie lose half the £6million the movie cost to make and 'The Next Best Thing’, which failed to recoup its £15 million budget in 2000 – is working on a script for a new film, but doesn’t plan to star in it.

She is quoted by gossip website Absolute Now as saying: 'I just finished writing a script and I am trying to get funding and casting for it, believe it or not.

'It’s called 'We’ and it’s a love story. It is two parallel love stories told from a woman’s point of view, obviously. One is a historical story that took place with the Duke and Duchess of Windsor. And the other is one I made up about a couple in New York.'

No One Wants to Finance Madonna’s New Science Fiction Movie-LINK
  • .......Sadly, the flick’s proving a hard sell for backers. Perhaps it would make sense for her to bill it as science fiction or dark humor if she insists on leveraging the “romance” angle? Or if her last stab at directing hadn’t blown such chunks?

In 2008, She helmed, wrote, and singlehandedly created Filth and Wisdom? And that opened to horrible reviews and ultimately posted unimpressive box-office returns. If only there was a way to encourage her to step away from the camera and go back to cone bras. If only.

Madonna’s Film Funding Nightmare!-LINK

Not only is she failing at that, but she was snubbed by the author of the book the movie "Precious" was based on, ha ha!

Madonna Wanted Precious
  • Nov 7, 2009

Madonna was almost MARIAH CAREY's boss on acclaimed new movie PRECIOUS - the pop superstar was among the first people to show an interest in adapting author SAPPHIRE's gritty drama into a film.

The writer decided the Material Girl wasn't a good fit and declined her offer to produce the film, about an obese, illiterate teenager.

Sapphire also turned down other interested parties until moviemaker Lee Daniels convinced her he was the right man for the job.

Sapphire tells Entertainment Weekly magazine, "There was this really earnest college student with his backpack on who wanted to do his first film, and then Madonna wanted to produce it. I was like, 'Madonna? I don't think this is her film.'"

And the author recalls one potential producer who had his cast all mapped out: "This one producer told me he had found Precious - and it was going to be (singer/actress) Brandy. Excuse me? I literally almost hung up on him."

And then Daniels came along with a cast of friends and the idea of casting Jane Fonda as Precious' social worker. He eventually settled on Helen Mirren and then turned to Carey when the Brit had to quit the project at the last minute.

She keeps promising to quit acting. I hope she sticks to this promise

Has Madonna Given Up Acting For Good? -'W.E.' director tells MTV News she prefers directing because 'If I'm the actor, I'm just ... I'm a pawn.'
Quote:

Madonna has given the whole thespian thing a try several times over. So, the idea of hitting the big screen again in front of the camera doesn't really appeal much to the "W.E." writer and director.

"No [I don't want to act], but I do [act] every day of my life," she told MTV News, before waxing a bit more philosophical about her future ambitions for a career on the big screen. "I like directing better," she further explained. "If I write it and direct it, then it's my voice. If I'm the actor, I'm just ... I'm a pawn."

As Madonna embarks on yet another chapter in her always-evolving career, she explains that she hopes that people will be able to love her for every project she's attached herself to in her decades-spanning career. "I'd rather not divide things up into categories, but I prefer the idea that people would say that I contributed to the culture, the zeitgeist from a female perspective as a musician, as a songwriter, as a filmmaker, in my political point of views of the issues that I've stood by and fought for," she said. "I hope that I consider all of these things to be a part of my body of work and I'd rather not go, 'Oh, she'll be remembered as a great filmmaker, a great songwriter.' "

I agree with you.

I think she contributed to pop culture in a sense (in that her name was stamped on fun, catchy pop tunes written by Stephen Bray in the 1980s that were popular back then), but whether her other contributions were intentional or not (e.g., being a feminist role model, etc - I think that existed only in the imaginations of the feminists), and whether any of her contributions were actually meaningful is very debatable.

She seems to be pushing for the 'deep and meaningful' aspect.
