Originally, I didn't want to start a thread about this, but it keeps popping up in the news. Some people seem to be in a panic about it.

One guy on t.v. speculated that if the USA gets hit with the bird flu, it will most likely start in Alaska and go eastward from there. (The thinking being that birds in the Far East will migrate to the western USA, which = Alaska / Oregon / Calif. etc.)

I'm not going to worry about this. I never worried about "mad cow" disease, either. I figure if God wants me to die from some disease, okay, but if not, I'm going to die some other way, so why worry?

Israel confirms H5N1, culls poultry

Excerpts:
  • Sun Mar 19, 2006
JERUSALEM (Reuters) - Israel said tests showed the avian flu virus that infected poultry in the south of the country is the lethal H5N1 strain.

Israel began culling flocks of turkeys and chickens in infected coops over the weekend after thousands of birds died at three farms.

Officials said on Friday the avian flu had killed them but they were awaiting the results of laboratory tests to determine its strain.

The Agriculture Ministry, in a posting on its Web site late on Sunday, said the tests showed that H5N1, a strain that has spread across Europe, Africa and parts of Asia and killed at least 98 people worldwide since 2003, had reached Israel.

isn't it ironic that most of the diseases that kill people are the ones that are carried by traveling from one part of the world to another? I wonder if they ever found out where this bird flu started from in the first place. I just hope they keep a check on it, and get their a-holes in gear for vaccines to either stop the spread or cure it. Some drug company that wants to make billions of dollars will come up with something for the goverment contacts...

U.S. officials: Plan for bird flu Don't count on government rescue, health secretary warns

Excerpts:
  • March 21, 2006
Saying they want to inspire preparation, not alarm, three cabinet secretaries said Monday that the dangerous strain of avian flu is likely to make its first U.S. appearance in wild birds migrating from Asia to Alaska.

"It is increasingly likely that we will detect a highly pathogenic H5N1 strain of avian flu in birds within the U.S. borders, possibly as early as this year," Interior Secretary Gale Norton said.

The virus, which has appeared in Europe, Africa and Asia, can spread from birds to people, though there's no evidence it can be transmitted from person to person.
US expands bird flu screening - CNN.com

Excerpt:
  • .... But Johanns [U.S. Secretary of Agriculture] added, "It is critically important for the American public to understand that a detection of this virus in birds does not signal the start of a pandemic among people."

.... The secretaries took care to emphasize that discovery of bird flu in the United States will not mean humans will immediately start getting sick.

"At this point, if you are a bird, it's a pandemic; if you are a human being, it's not. It's as simple as that," said Leavitt [U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary].

"However we are not excused from concern. While there is no evidence that the virus is passing from person to person, we do see this virus circulating in birds all over the world.

It is a highly lethal virus when it gets into human beings and there is no human immunity."

The headlines are saying there are new cases of the bird flu in the UK. I think I also heard recently it popped up someplace else (maybe Israel??).

More bird flu cases rock UK

Excerpts:
  • 30/04/2006 [April 30, 2006]

London - More poultry flocks will be slaughtered after chickens tested positive for the H7 strain of bird flu in two more farms in eastern England, the British environment ministry said on Saturday.

Preliminary results indicate the H7N3 strain, but further tests are being carried out, according to the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra).

The H7 strain is much less of a threat to humans than the H5N1 form of the virus, which was confirmed in a dead swan in Scotland in early April, the only case so far in Britain.

.... Meanwhile officials continued to reassure the public of the "extremely low" risk to human health after a poultry worker at the first farm affected contracted the virus in the form of conjunctivitis, an eye infection.

The Health Protection Agency (Hapa) said H7N3 does not pass easily from human to human, adding that the risk to the general public was "extremely limited".

How Did Seven Family Members Get Infected With Bird Flu?

Excerpt:
  • May 19, 2006

We still don't know how seven members of the same family in Indonesia became infected with the H5N1 bird flu virus strain. Six of them have died. It is vital to know whether some of them infected each other. If they did, this would mean that the virus might be changing.

The World Health Organization says that it is highly unlikely that H5N1 has mutated in this case. If it had, WHO believes more people from outside the family would have become infected.

The problem is that many days have passed and no one has managed to find any other source.

Two Indonesian children die of bird flu - local tests - June 2, 2006
  • JAKARTA (XFN-ASIA) - A seven-year-old Indonesian girl and a 15-year-old boy who died this week were infected with bird flu, a health ministry official said, citing results from local tests.

The girl, identified as Yohana from the Pamulang area southwest of the capital, died late yesterday after being treated in a Jakarta hospital, said Runizar Rusin, head of the ministry's bird flu coordination center.

The teenage boy, who died Tuesday in the West Java capital of Bandung, also tested positive for bird flu, he said.

Samples from the girl and the boy had been sent to a laboratory recognised by the World Health Organisation (WHO) for confirmation. Results from local tests are typically accurate.

British Confronts Outbreak of Bird Flu

British Bird Flu Worker Is Hospitalized
  • Reports: Worker who attended British bird flu outbreak is being monitored in hospital

    LONDON, Feb. 6, 2007
(AP) A worker who helped deal with the bird flu outbreak in eastern England is under observation at a hospital, the Health Protection Agency said Tuesday.

The worker, who was not identified, was suffering from a mild respiratory illness and was undergoing tests, the agency said.

Sky News identified the patient as a veterinarian, but the agency did not confirm this.
UK's H5N1 outbreak is Europe's biggest
  • SLAUGHTER: 59,000 turkeys were killed in an attempt to contain the bird flu virus that has many wondering if it will one day mutate and spread between human beings

    AP, LONDON
    Wednesday, Feb 07, 2007, Page 6

Britain is confronting Europe's biggest outbreak of bird flu with a massive culling of turkeys -- and worried consumers are asking whether the disease will hit humans next.

Experts are trying to spread the word that conditions in Britain are so different from Asia and Africa that the chances of human infection is infinitesimal. They also stress that no human bird flu cases have ever been traced to eating properly cooked poultry or eggs.

"At the moment in the United Kingdom, the general public still have more chance of winning the lottery than getting bird flu," said Jim Robertson, a virologist at Britain's national institute for biological standards and control.

.... Sales may also be hurt -- not only at Bernard Matthews, but throughout the entire poultry industry, worth an estimated ?3.4 billion (US$6.7 billion) a year in Britain.

.... Three of Britain's major supermarket chains have so far reported no change in poultry or egg sales following the H5N1 outbreak.

But previous bird flu outbreaks in Europe have hit the market hard. After a bird flu outbreak on a French farm last year, poultry consumption in France fell by 30 percent.

The bird flu is now in Russia.

H5N1 bird flu came to Russia from Azerbaijan, Russian official stated
  • 20 February 2007 [07:00] - Today.Az
Moscow's best-known pet market was in quarantine on Monday as health officials confirmed a strain of H5N1, potentially lethal to humans, was responsible for five bird flu outbreaks around the Russian capital.

Veterinary officials traced all five outbreaks, in separate villages around Moscow, to birds bought in the past two weeks at the capital's Sadovod market, commonly known as "Ptichka" ("Birdie"), where masked officials guarded empty stalls.

Laboratory tests confirmed that the H5N1 bird flu present in all five cases was highly pathogenic and potentially dangerous to humans, said Nikolai Vlasov, head of veterinary surveillance at Russia's animal and plant health watchdog, Rosselkhoznadzor.

"It is probably related to the Asian type of the virus," he told Reuters.

Not really sure what the Swine Flu is; I heard about it on the TV news tonight.

The swine flu started in Mexico, and cases of it have turned up in Texas and California.

Deadly new flu strain erupts in Mexico, US
  • * New mixture of viruses in flu never seen before

    * U.S. worried, eight cases emerge in California and Texas

    * WHO says Mexico, U.S. well-equipped to handle outbreak

....MEXICO CITY, April 24 (Reuters) - A new strain of flu has killed up to 68 people in Mexico and spread alarm as far as the United States, where eight people were infected, but health officials stopped short of declaring a pandemic on Friday.

.... But the human-to-human spread of the new virus raised fears of a major outbreak. Mexico's government warned people to avoid crowds, to not share food, glasses or cutlery or shake hands or kiss when greeting and to wash their hands frequently.

"We're frightened because they say it's not exactly flu, it's another kind of virus and we're not vaccinated," said Angeles Rivera, 34, a government worker who fetched her son from a public kindergarten that was closing.

Genetic analysis showed the disease is a never-before-seen mixture of swine, human and avian viruses, according to the CDC.

The cases reported in Mexico included four in Mexicali on the border with California.

Most of the dead were aged between 25 and 45, a health official said. It was a worrying sign as seasonal flu can be more deadly among the very young and very old but a hallmark of pandemics is that they affect healthy young adults.
Swine Flu Found in Mexican Outbreak

Health monitors watch for swine flu
  • Apr 24 09

California doctors and other health experts are on the lookout for cases of a new strain of swine flu, a potentially dangerous virus that has reignited fears of a pandemic flu outbreak after killing about 60 people in Mexico and sickening eight people in the United States.

Hospitals and public health departments throughout California, where six of the American cases have been found, were told Friday to increase surveillance of the rare strain of flu that combines genetic material from humans, pigs and birds.

State and federal health officials said there is little cause for alarm in the United States at this point - all of the U.S. cases have been mild and the flu has been responsive to drugs. Everyone infected so far has fully recovered; one woman was hospitalized, but she had an underlying condition that complicated her case, state public health officials said.

But the cases in Mexico have been startlingly severe, with more than 800 cases of pneumonia in the capital alone that are suspected to be related to the swine flu, according to the World Health Organization.

Also worrisome is that most of the illness has been in healthy young adults, which is unusual with influenza outbreaks. Government officials have closed schools in Mexico City and people are being told to avoid crowds.

"My level of concern is significant," said Dr. Martin Fenstersheib, the health officer for Santa Clara County. "We have a novel virus, a brand-new strain that's spreading human to human, and we are also seeing a virulent strain in Mexico that seems to be related. We certainly have concerns for this escalating."

It's unclear how people in Mexico and the United States have caught the virus. Swine flu is typically transferable from direct contact with a pig, but none of the U.S. patients had such contact. That likely means that the virus has started to spread from human to human.

That's what concerns public health experts, who have long worried over the potential for a deadly pandemic flu outbreak. Different viruses can infect one animal and shake up the genetic material, causing a new virus. If such a virus is able to spread among humans and contains viral material that humans haven't developed a natural resistance to, the result could be widespread, serious illness.

Bird flu has been the top concern, because humans have almost no resistance to that virus and cases where humans have caught the flu strain from a bird have been very severe and often deadly. So far bird flu hasn't found a way to spread from human to human.

"This is what everyone's worried about with bird flu. After a decade it hasn't happened, and I'd sort of written it off," said Dr. Larry Drew, director of the UCSF virology lab. "But if it's now an attribute of swine flu, why couldn't it become an attribute of bird flu? It's kind of frightening."

The connection between the cases in Mexico and the United States is still uncertain, although the Centers for Disease Control on Friday reported that at least seven samples of the virus from Mexico are "very similar" to the strains in the United States. But so far it's not known how many of the people who are sick in Mexico have swine flu or a form of seasonal influenza.

The eight people infected in the United States all live near the border - six are in San Diego and Imperial counties, and two are in San Antonio. Public health experts said it's likely there are more cases in the United States. Doctors don't typically take samples from flu patients for testing, and the recent swine flu cases were only caught because the patients were involved in health programs that were testing new diagnostic procedures.

The symptoms of swine flu are similar to seasonal influenza, including fever, cough, sore throat and in rare cases vomiting and diarrhea. People who believe they have the flu should stay home, health experts said. If they are very sick they should see a doctor, and make sure they report if they've been to Mexico in the past few days or have had contact with anyone from Mexico.

"People should stay home from work and children should really not be at school if they are sick and have a fever," said Dr. Roger Baxter, co-director of the Kaiser Permanente Vaccine Study Center in Oakland. "If you're not sick, should you avoid crowds and take precautions like that now? We're not there yet."

What is swine flu and how serious is it?

Swine flu threat calls for precaution, preparation

World gov'ts race to contain swine flu outbreak
  • By LAURAN NEERGAARD, AP Medical Writer Lauran Neergaard, Ap Medical Writer

WASHINGTON – The world's governments raced to avoid both a pandemic and global hysteria Sunday as more possible swine flu cases surfaced from Canada to New Zealand and the United States declared a public health emergency. "It's not a time to panic," the White House said.

....Canada confirmed cases in six people, including some students who — like some New York City spring-breakers — got mildly ill in Mexico. Countries across Asia promised to quarantine feverish travelers returning from flu-affected areas.

....A potential pandemic virus is defined, among other things, as a novel strain that's not easily treated. This new strain can be treated with Tamiflu and Relenza, but not two older flu drugs.

Also, the WHO wants to know if it's easily spread from one person to a second who then spreads it again — something U.S. officials suspect and are investigating.

....There is no vaccine against swine flu, but the CDC has taken the initial step necessary for producing one — creating a seed stock of the virus — should authorities decide that's necessary. Last winter's flu shot offers no cross-protection to the new virus, although it's possible that older people exposed to various Type A flu strains in the past may have some immunity, CDC officials said Sunday.

Worldwide, attention focused sharply on travelers.

"It was acquired in Mexico, brought home and spread," Nova Scotia's chief public health officer, Dr. Robert Strang, said of Canada's first four confirmed cases, in student travelers.

What is Swine Influenza?
Swine Influenza (swine flu) is a respiratory disease of pigs caused by type A influenza virus that regularly causes outbreaks of influenza in pigs. Swine flu viruses cause high levels of illness and low death rates in pigs. Swine influenza viruses may circulate among swine throughout the year, but most outbreaks occur during the late fall and winter months similar to outbreaks in humans. The classical swine flu virus (an influenza type A H1N1 virus) was first isolated from a pig in 1930.

How many swine flu viruses are there?
Like all influenza viruses, swine flu viruses change constantly. Pigs can be infected by avian influenza and human influenza viruses as well as swine influenza viruses. When influenza viruses from different species infect pigs, the viruses can reassort (i.e. swap genes) and new viruses that are a mix of swine, human and/or avian influenza viruses can emerge. Over the years, different variations of swine flu viruses have emerged. At this time, there are four main influenza type A virus subtypes that have been isolated in pigs: H1N1, H1N2, H3N2, and H3N1. However, most of the recently isolated influenza viruses from pigs have been H1N1 viruses.
Swine Flu in Humans

Can humans catch swine flu?
Swine flu viruses do not normally infect humans. However, sporadic human infections with swine flu have occurred. Most commonly, these cases occur in persons with direct exposure to pigs (e.g. children near pigs at a fair or workers in the swine industry). In addition, there have been documented cases of one person spreading swine flu to others. For example, an outbreak of apparent swine flu infection in pigs in Wisconsin in 1988 resulted in multiple human infections, and, although no community outbreak resulted, there was antibody evidence of virus transmission from the patient to health care workers who had close contact with the patient.

How common is swine flu infection in humans?
In the past, CDC received reports of approximately one human swine influenza virus infection every one to two years in the U.S., but from December 2005 through February 2009, 12 cases of human infection with swine influenza have been reported.

What are the symptoms of swine flu in humans?
The symptoms of swine flu in people are expected to be similar to the symptoms of regular human seasonal influenza and include fever, lethargy, lack of appetite and coughing. Some people with swine flu also have reported runny nose, sore throat, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea.

Can people catch swine flu from eating pork?
No. Swine influenza viruses are not transmitted by food. You can not get swine influenza from eating pork or pork products. Eating properly handled and cooked pork and pork products is safe. Cooking pork to an internal temperature of 160°F kills the swine flu virus as it does other bacteria and viruses.

How does swine flu spread?
Influenza viruses can be directly transmitted from pigs to people and from people to pigs. Human infection with flu viruses from pigs are most likely to occur when people are in close proximity to infected pigs, such as in pig barns and livestock exhibits housing pigs at fairs. Human-to-human transmission of swine flu can also occur. This is thought to occur in the same way as seasonal flu occurs in people, which is mainly person-to-person transmission through coughing or sneezing of people infected with the influenza virus. People may become infected by touching something with flu viruses on it and then touching their mouth or nose.

What do we know about human-to-human spread of swine flu?
In September 1988, a previously healthy 32-year-old pregnant woman was hospitalized for pneumonia and died 8 days later. A swine H1N1 flu virus was detected. Four days before getting sick, the patient visited a county fair swine exhibition where there was widespread influenza-like illness among the swine.

In follow-up studies, 76% of swine exhibitors tested had antibody evidence of swine flu infection but no serious illnesses were detected among this group. Additional studies suggest that one to three health care personnel who had contact with the patient developed mild influenza-like illnesses with antibody evidence of swine flu infection.

How can human infections with swine influenza be diagnosed?
To diagnose swine influenza A infection, a respiratory specimen would generally need to be collected within the first 4 to 5 days of illness (when an infected person is most likely to be shedding virus). However, some persons, especially children, may shed virus for 10 days or longer. Identification as a swine flu influenza A virus requires sending the specimen to CDC for laboratory testing.

What medications are available to treat swine flu infections in humans?
There are four different antiviral drugs that are licensed for use in the US for the treatment of influenza: amantadine, rimantadine, oseltamivir (Tamiflu) and zanamivir. While most swine influenza viruses have been susceptible to all four drugs, the most recent swine influenza viruses isolated from humans are resistant to amantadine and rimantadine. At this time, CDC recommends the use of oseltamivir or zanamivir for the treatment and/or prevention of infection with swine influenza viruses.

What other examples of swine flu outbreaks are there?
Probably the most well known is an outbreak of swine flu among soldiers in Fort Dix, New Jersey in 1976. The virus caused disease with x-ray evidence of pneumonia in at least 4 soldiers and 1 death; all of these patients had previously been healthy. The virus was transmitted to close contacts in a basic training environment, with limited transmission outside the basic training group. The virus is thought to have circulated for a month and disappeared. The source of the virus, the exact time of its introduction into Fort Dix, and factors limiting its spread and duration are unknown. The Fort Dix outbreak may have been caused by introduction of an animal virus into a stressed human population in close contact in crowded facilities during the winter. The swine influenza A virus collected from a Fort Dix soldier was named A/New Jersey/76 (Hsw1N1).

Is the H1N1 swine flu virus the same as human H1N1 viruses?
No. The H1N1 swine flu viruses are antigenically very different from human H1N1 viruses and, therefore, vaccines for human seasonal flu would not provide protection from H1N1 swine flu viruses.

Swine Flu in Pigs

How does swine flu spread among pigs?
Swine flu viruses are thought to be spread mostly through close contact among pigs and possibly from contaminated objects moving between infected and uninfected pigs. Herds with continuous swine flu infections and herds that are vaccinated against swine flu may have sporadic disease, or may show only mild or no symptoms of infection.

What are signs of swine flu in pigs?
Signs of swine flu in pigs can include sudden onset of fever, depression, coughing (barking), discharge from the nose or eyes, sneezing, breathing difficulties, eye redness or inflammation, and going off feed.

How common is swine flu among pigs?
H1N1 and H3N2 swine flu viruses are endemic among pig populations in the United States and something that the industry deals with routinely. Outbreaks among pigs normally occur in colder weather months (late fall and winter) and sometimes with the introduction of new pigs into susceptible herds. Studies have shown that the swine flu H1N1 is common throughout pig populations worldwide, with 25 percent of animals showing antibody evidence of infection. In the U.S. studies have shown that 30 percent of the pig population has antibody evidence of having had H1N1 infection. More specifically, 51 percent of pigs in the north-central U.S. have been shown to have antibody evidence of infection with swine H1N1. Human infections with swine flu H1N1 viruses are rare. There is currently no way to differentiate antibody produced in response to flu vaccination in pigs from antibody made in response to pig infections with swine H1N1 influenza.

While H1N1 swine viruses have been known to circulate among pig populations since at least 1930, H3N2 influenza viruses did not begin circulating among US pigs until 1998. The H3N2 viruses initially were introduced into the pig population from humans. The current swine flu H3N2 viruses are closely related to human H3N2 viruses.

Is there a vaccine for swine flu?
Vaccines are available to be given to pigs to prevent swine influenza. There is no vaccine to protect humans from swine flu. The seasonal influenza vaccine will likely help provide partial protection against swine H3N2, but not swine H1N1 viruses.

Pigs infected with A/H1N1 flu in Canada

Swine flu may be less potent than first feared
  • The swine flu outbreak that has alarmed the world for a week now appears less ominous, with the virus showing little staying power in the hardest-hit cities and scientists suggesting it lacks the genetic fortitude of past killer bugs.

....A flu expert said he sees no reason to believe the virus is particularly lethal. And a federal scientist said the germ's genetic makeup lacks some traits seen in the deadly 1918 flu pandemic strain and the more recent killer bird flu.

Afghanistan's Only Pig Quarantined in Flu Fear
  • By Golnar Motevalli
    May 5, 2009

Afghanistan's only known pig has been locked in a room, away from visitors to Kabul zoo where it normally grazes beside deer and goats, because people are worried it could infect them with the virus popularly known as swine flu.

The pig is a curiosity in Muslim Afghanistan, where pork and pig products are illegal because they are considered irreligious, and has been in quarantine since Sunday after visitors expressed alarm it could spread the new flu strain.

"For now the pig is under quarantine, we built it a room because of swine influenza," Aziz Gul Saqib, director of Kabul Zoo, told Reuters. "We've done this because people are worried about getting the flu."

Worldwide, more than 1,000 people have been infected with the virus, according to the World Health Organization, which also says 26 people have so far died from the strain. All but one of the deaths were in Mexico, the epicenter of the outbreak.

Washington man with swine flu dies: health dept
  • May 9 09
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A Washington state resident with the new H1N1 swine flu died last week, state health officials said on Saturday.

A man in his 30s who lived in Snohomish County and had underlying heart conditions died last week with what health officials said appeared to be complications from the new flu strain. This is the first death in the state succumbed to the virus, according to a statement issued by the Washington State Department of Health.

Swine Flu Becomes a Global Pandemic
  • The World Health Organization emerged from an emergency meeting today, finding that swine flu has reached the level of a global pandemic, its first such determination in more than 40 years.
The AP is reporting that the finding was sent out to WHO member countries in response to the mounting number of infections -- now more than 27,000 -- in Europe, North and South America and Australia.

I found this news about a vaccine made in March 2009.

Baxter Caught Shipping Vaccines With Live Avian Flu Virus To 18 Countries Worldwide

........“Baxter is acting a whole lot like a biological terrorism organization these days, sending deadly viral samples around the world. If you mail an envelope full of anthrax to your Senator, you get arrested as a terrorist. So why is Baxter — which mailed samples of a far more deadly viral strain to labs around the world — getting away with saying, essentially, “Oops?”, Adams concludes.

This is not the first time that vaccine companies have been caught distributing vaccines contaminated with deadly viruses.

In 2006 it was revealed that Bayer Corporation had discovered that their injection drug, which was used by hemophiliacs, was contaminated with the HIV virus. Internal documents prove that after they positively knew that the drug was contaminated, they took it off the U.S. market only to dump it on the European, Asian and Latin American markets, knowingly exposing thousands, most of them children, to the live HIV virus. Government officials in France went to prison for allowing the drug to be distributed. The documents show that the FDA colluded with Bayer to cover-up the scandal and allowed the deadly drug to be distributed globally. No Bayer executives ever faced arrest or prosecution in the United States.

Readers comments:

1.This study was done by the evil company that makes MF59, a squalene adjuvant similar to the AS03 in Canadian vaccine.

"Squalene is a naturally occurring oil which has been used in the development of vaccine adjuvants, such as the oil-in-water emulsion MF59. In past years, by use of noncontrolled and nonvalidated assays, a claim was made that antisqualene antibodies were detectable in the sera of individuals with the so-called Gulf War syndrome. Using a validated enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay for the quantitation of immunoglobulin G (IgG) and IgM antibodies against squalene, we demonstrated that antisqualene antibodies are frequently detectable at very low titers in the sera of subjects who were never immunized with vaccines containing squalene. More importantly, vaccination with a subunit influenza vaccine with the MF59 adjuvant neither induced antisqualene antibodies nor enhanced preexisting antisqualene antibody titers. In conclusion, antisqualene antibodies are not increased by immunization with vaccines with the MF59 adjuvant. These data extend the safety profile of the MF59 emulsion adjuvant."

2. “…it is claimed that the adjuvant used in the anthrax vaccine was to blame for Gulf War syndrome, but there was not adjuvant in that vaccine.” WRONG - Despite US Dept. of Defence denials that squalene was an added “adjuvant” in the anthrax vaccine given to Persian Gulf War military personnel (whether deployed or not), the US FDA later found squalene in some batches of the more recent Anthrax Vaccine Immunization Project version. Gulf War Syndrome symptoms were noted in the participants in this program. Tulane Medical School used these known squalene recipients with GWS symptoms to create a anti-squalene antibody detection test. They then used this test on real GWS patients who had received the original vaccine at the outbreak of the Persian Gulf War (AKA Gulf War I); 95% of these military vaccinees with GWS tested positive for the anti-squalene antibody; zero percent of those who deployed for that war who didn’t have symptoms of GWS tested for the antibodies. This was published in the Feb 2000 issue of Experimental Molecular Pathology (mainstream peer-reviewed journal). The implications are crystal clear: those soldiers who had the version of the anthrax vaccine with squalene ended up with GWS; those who received the batches without squalene did not get sick.
“A similar adjuvant, MF59, has been used in about 40 million vaccinations in Europe." Misleading, ‘similar’ is not ‘same’ so that is a misleading statement. It is a complex matter of differing formulae (both have squalene but in different proportions) and a Big Pharma fight over patents. The jury is definitely out on the squalene danger, and Canadians are the guinea pigs, unlike the USA, where the adjuvant is not allowed.
