That's when you know she's b.s.-ing when she says she hates the song "Material Girl". She probably just don't want to be reminded that she is a "material girl". This TIDAL mess proves it.

Tidal flops out of iTunes Top 700 apps chart as company attempts reboot
  • By RANDY LEWIS contact the reporter
    April 22, 2015

Hear that? It’s the sound of the Tidal wave — crashing.

Two weeks after rapper-entrepreneur Jay Z brought out Beyoncé and a half-dozen of the pop music world’s biggest stars onstage with him to roll out the Tidal high-quality music service as a new business model in the streaming world, the Tidal app has plummeted out of iTunes’ Top 700 iPhone apps chart.

Initially it appeared in the Top 20, but now is nowhere to be found — and already the company is making some seismic changes in an attempt to reboot the nascent operation, having cut loose CEO Andy Chen and replaced him with former Aspiro CEO Peter Tonstad, laid off 25 employees and is even having Jay and Jack White personally call subscribers on the phone.

... Meanwhile, Spotify and Rhapsody edged out the massively popular Candy Crush Saga app to take the No. 3 and 4 positions, respectively, on the U.S. iPhone revenue chart as of Monday (April 20), indicating these comparatively long-running services are still growing.

.... Pundits, including The Times' pop critic Randall Roberts, have noted the mixed message Jay Z and the other high-profile Tidal spokespeople (and minority shareholders) may have sent in their introduction of the service, with millionaire pop musicians trying to make a case for a company that promises to pay musicians more equitably than its rivals.

"Next time Jay Z, Arcade Fire's Win Butler and Regine Chassagne and Jason Aldean pitch something for the good of starving artists," Roberts wrote earlier this month, "they probably shouldn't do it while in a mansion holding Champagne flutes and toasting their gold-leafed good fortune."

It's bad for Jay Z and Beyoncé too. Ouch.

I don't rejoice in people's misfortunes but Jay Z has always scared the crap out of me. I don't hate him but I wouldn't be surprised if he's in shady business or businesses behind the scenes.

I joke about Beyoncé but she seems like a genuinely nice woman.

As for Madonna, she's had it great for so long, but sometimes you just hit a limit. If you were a hater in the 80s, starting with MDNA, it's probably refreshing to see her show cracks in her calculating business and career moves.

...Madonna obviously didn't have much to do with the business model or technical development of Tidal, she just added her name to the list of other music 'icon's to promote this thing...

...I didn't like the look or smell of Tidal from the various industry-controlled 'icons' to the apparent high cost of Tidal compared to better, cheaper alternatives so I'm not sorry to see it go down...

...given the cumulative egos and arrogance that appeared to go into this thing it's no surprise Madonna glommed on to it...she probably should have checked out the business model and the actual quality of the app (I hear it's pretty crummy) before finalizing...again not so savvy...it is possible, however, that she felt she couldn't refuse an endorsement request from the scary Jay Z...

The music industry, as a whole, is suffering terribly. My guess is just bad decisions. I'm probably as much a business savvy person as Madonna is, LOL.

Well, I couldn't be happier plenty of celeb egos were popped in the failure of Tidal.

Wipe your tears with $1000 bills, ya jerks ... you don't know what the public really needs outside that 1% bubble you live in.

Yeah I imagine the smirks on the faces of not only Madonna but also Jay Z, Rihanna and Jack White (who I used to really dig but now is starting to see him in a new light and not a pleasant one) were ripped off (figuratively) once they read reports on how bad Tidal is doing. Kanye all but called an about face on his support of it deleting tweets of it (and reverting back to an early avatar when he had it "blued" out during his Tidal support) only posting one tweet about it but in an almost self-depreciating way.

Tidal Charges Former Users' Credit Cards Without Their Consent
  • by Don Rys

    Refunds have already been issued.

Former subscribers to Jay Z's high end streaming service Tidal may have to check their bank statements, as a report emerged yesterday (Jan. 18) that the company had charged several former users $19.99 despite their accounts being closed.

It seems that Tidal quickly rectified the error, sending an email notifying affected former customers that the money had been refunded and would take two to five business days to appear on credit card statements. As a form of restitution, they also offered three free months of the service's premium tier, which costs $9.99 per month (its higher-quality hifi tier goes for the previously-mentioned $19.99 per month).

"Rest assured, we've already refunded any charges," Tidal wrote in a statement provided to Billboard. "Accounts haven’t been renewed, but we have offered a 3 month complimentary trial of the premium service on top of the refund as an apology that will not be auto renewed upon completion."

Tidal declined to provide the number of former users affected by the charge, though some have found the free three-month trial membership off-putting, as they had already closed their accounts with the service. It's the company's first public hiccup since announcing in December that Jeff Toig, a former executive at SoundCloud and Muve Music, would be taking over as its third CEO in nine months.
