Madonna kind of looks like she's wearing a straight jacket in those photos. And I'm getting annoyed by all those "hair falling over one eye" poses.

Other than the fact Madonna said in interviews a couple of years ago that she 'no longer wants people to dress like her' but instead 'to dress like Britney Spears,' there are other reasons fashion firms may want to steer clear of her:
1- I posted info from a WSJ article (just a couple of posts above this one) that explains that the trend now is to use professional fashion models rather than movie stars / rock stars.
Supposedly, the public doesn't respond to celebs in ads anymore.
2- if this Vuitton company (designer?) uses Man-donna, depending upon how long after her H&M stint the Vuitton ads takes place, some people may mix up any Vuittion ads she posed for with the H & M ads.
If I were Mr. Vuitton, I wouldn't want to spend the big bucks on Manny as model if the public is going to quickly glance a Vuitton ad of her but think it's another for H & M.
Madonna To Be [Old, Wrinkled, Botoxed] Face of Louis Vuitton?- MADONNA will be performing at a private party for LOUIS VUITTON next month (SEP06) - and the pop superstar is also reportedly being courted as the next face of the fashion house.
The MATERIAL GIRL will play at a bash in Prague, Czech Republic on 8 September (06). The day before she is playing in the city as part of her Confessions tour.
Insiders report the 48-year-old is "very interested" in modelling for Louis Vuitton. 31/08/2006 01:56
Madge the new face of LV?
Madonna to be Louis Vuitton’s new face - new face? If parts of it are now made out of plastic, okay, I'll buy that
~~ EDIT Oct 2006 ~~
Madonna's track suit range helped increase H&M's profits - Madonna ‘s track suit range for H&M has helped boost profits for the clothing retailer.
The Queen of Pop launched her own line of tracksuits in August which created huge demand in the high street store.
Nils Vinge said that profits were up by 13% thanks to better than expected August sales and cheaper sourcing in Asia.
He told fashion united that the ”Madonna collaboration was widely regarded”, and added that August like-for-like sales grew 5 percent.
H& M’s celebrity fashion ranges have proved a huge success for the group. Chanel designer Karl Lagerfeld and Stella Mac Cartney have both designed one off ranges which sold put within days of their launch.
Ex- creative director of Boucheron jewellers Solange Azagury- Partridge proved another success story for H& M with her 40 piece jewellery range last Christmas.

Well, Vuitton sells overpriced leathery goods, so her hands should fit perfectly in their campaign for 'bags".

-- EDIT BELOW -- :snowman:
It's Christmas in October!
All these negative pieces and bits of information! Merry Christmas to me, wooooo!
MADONNA'S H&M FASHION COLLECTION FAILING? - from PR Inside
MADONNA'S H+M FASHION COLLECTION FAILING? - Contact Music - MADONNA's fashion line at Swedish retail giant H+M is failing to ignite sales according to media reports in the US.
Three months after Madonna launched her tracksuit in three colours to much fanfare, the merchandise still remains in the store suffering from lacklustre sales.
British designer STELLA MCCARTNEY created a near riot at H+M stores last year (05), when she designed a special collection, which immediately sold out.
The US spokesperson for the company tells Radar Online that sales comparison's to MCCartney's collection aren't fair because the designer created the 30 to 50 piece line herself, while Madonna's contribution "is just a tracksuit that we had designed."
Media reports at the time claimed the HUNG UP star had designed the trendy tracksuit as a thank you to the company for providing her dancers, band and crew members with a full off-stage wardrobe during her global CONFESSIONS tour.
The H+M spokesperson claims the sales of the tracksuit are doing "very well" but refused to reveal any sales numbers, saying the success of the piece was based on company expectations, not exact sales figures. 19/10/2006 03:15

----- EDIT ------
More early Christmas presents!
Madonna's fashion line flops - TeenToday.co.uk - Looks like Madonna's losing her Midas touch. Her fashion line at Swedish retail giant H&M is failing to ignite sales according to media reports in the US.

Madonna's H&M Fashion Collection Failing? - San Fran Gate
Madgewear, Coming Soon to TJ Maxx - Radar Online - While Madonna is busy matching her Malawian baby to her Prada tote, her fashion line at Swedish retail giant H&M appears to be bombing.
Three months after Madonna launched her tracksuit in three colors, bountiful stocks of the girl's materials hang on the massive retailer's racks [photo after the jump], their "Madonna & Crew ♥ H&M" labels begging the question: Does H&M feel the same way?
Compared to the mad rush and instant sellout of Stella McCartney's capsule collection for H&M last year, her BFF Madge's piece is a dud.
H&M says that's not a fair comparison. Stella designed a whole 30- to 50-piece line herself. Madonna's contribution "is just a tracksuit that we had designed," H&M's U.S. spokesperson said.
That's a different message from the line that went out here, there and everywhere at launch time, stating the pop star "designed a trendy tracksuit" and would be "designing limited edition sportswear" for the stores.
Asked specifically about the performance of the piece, which Ms. Ciccone and crew agreed to wear backstage on tour, the H&M spokesperson said it was doing "very well," but admitted that wasn't based on any numbers — which the company doesn't share, anyway — but instead on company expectations.
Meanwhile, H&M doesn't have any plans to work with Madge in the future, and they've been giving away Madgewear for free over at the H&M MySpace page.
Consider this a word to the wise marketing geniuses behind the forthcoming Scarlett Johansson Reebok shoes: "Scarlett ♥ Rbk" might not be the best choice for a logo.

Oh wait- isn't she the new representative for Gautier?
Remember that funky-ass wig she wore skewered sideways for that awful Versace shoot? With the gnarly hammertoes propped up on the desk and her fungal-white photoshopped skin?
......wonder how The English Roses Collection is doing?

H + M is a glutton for punishment and low profits:
H&M, Madonna to launch 'M by Madonna' line in March 2007 - 12.07.06, 2:32 AM ET
STOCKHOLM (AFX) - Hennes & Mauritz AB said it has teamed up with pop singer Madonna to create a line of clothing and accessories, 'M by Madonna', that is scheduled for a global launch in March 2007. ...
H&M to launch 2nd fashion collection with Madonna - December 7, 2006
STOCKHOLM, Sweden: Europe's largest fashion retailer Hennes & Mauritz has once again sealed a deal to create a fashion line with Madonna, the company said Thursday.
... H&M said the new collection will "reflect Madonna's timelessness, unique and always glamorous style."
Re: - H&M: "...Madonna's timelessness, unique and always glamorous style."
Timelessness: a rambling corpse dated several hundred years B.C.? I can agree with that.
Unique: Not at all. She has fashion designers dress her (she has final approval of or declines their designs), and she rips off the looks of other celebrities
Glamorous: only when she's attempting to look like Harlow, Monroe, or Dietrch. The rest of the time, she's unwashed, in baggy track suits, oily hair, or wearing too-tight leotards or ripped clothing and too much jewelry (1980s).

Don't overlook the line in bold face type (it's quite a ways down).
How H&M's Coping With Retail Travails - A German tax hike and more competition have dimmed the cheap-chic retailer's outlook, but stores in Asia plus a new, upscale chain may help
by Nichola Saminather
H&M may be the king of "fast fashion," but changes in some of its markets are nudging the retailer into a slower lane.
The company, facing slackening sales growth, lost its place last year as Europe's largest clothing retailer to Spain's Inditex, parent company of competitor Zara.
It may face tougher times ahead as competition grows, and as a result of pressures caused by Germany's raising its value-added tax by three points on Jan. 1, to 19%. Germany accounts for more than a quarter of H&M's total sales.
The jury is still out on how consumers in Germany will react to the added tax burden, but H&M (HMRZF) is already suffering there. Sales in Germany fell by 4% in 2006 as more competitors moved in on H&M's cheap-chic turf.
And prices are likely to go up due to the VAT change, further dampening demand. Some 80% of the increase will likely be passed on to consumers, according to a survey of German retailers by the Royal Bank of Scotland.
Still, that won't necessarily keep Germans from buying new duds. There is no evidence "that a bust in spending is around the corner," the bank wrote in a December report.
Some market watchers say H&M can prosper in Germany if it sticks to its core strategy of stuffing its outlets with hip clothing coveted by young people and quickly reacting to trends it sees elsewhere. H&M "has a formula," says Kurt Barnard, president of Barnard's Retail Consulting Group.
"It's based on the recognition that retailing is essentially theater. There's a stage and it must change continuously to hold the interest of the consumer" (see BusinessWeek.com, 3/27/06, "H&M: It's The Latest Thing—Really").
While rivals may be closing in, switching to the quick turnaround formula may not be easy for retailers accustomed to more leisurely changeovers.
Re: - Some market watchers say H&M can prosper in Germany if it sticks to its core strategy of stuffing its outlets with hip clothing coveted by young people
And they think enlisting Madonna will appeal to the hip and trendy youth?
Yeah, right, sure.
The last time she designed clothing for them, it tanked (see previous posts in this thread). You'd think they'd try another celebrity this time.
Continuing with the article: - Expansion in Asia
To make up for any potential troubles in Germany, H&M is aggressively expanding elsewhere. The company plans to open stores in China and Hong Kong this year and in Tokyo in fall, 2008.
"Japan is an exciting market for H&M, with fashion-conscious consumers with great spending power," Chief Executive Rolf Eriksen said in a statement. "We see great opportunities for expansion in this part of the world."
The company is also moving upscale. It is opening a new chain of stores with higher-end offerings this spring. And it is teaming up with pop singer Madonna to create a new range of clothing and accessories, called "M by Madonna," to be available in all its stores this spring (see BusinessWeek.com, 12/12/06, "H&M Moves Up with Madonna").
Analysts remain cautious; most have had neutral recommendations on H&M stock for months. But the company's share price has been inching up, from $41.68 in early October to $51.28 on Jan. 2. Sales for the first nine months of 2006 rose 11% to $7.2 billion.

Here's another article showing that Manny's work for GAP didn't improve GAP's Profits / Image.
Gap fails to connect with shoppers - Jan 15, 2007
BY ELIZABETH LAZAROWITZ
Gap, once the king of casual style, is about as hot as a leisure suit these days.
Management shake-ups, celebrity endorsements and even store makeovers have impressed neither fickle consumers nor Wall Street, and now the San Francisco-based clothing chain may itself be up for sale.
For the one-time shopping mall superstar, the fall has been swift and painful.
"It's clearly not cool anymore," said Jefferies analyst Timothy Allen. "It's like we used to joke around in school about shopping at Kmart."
Sales at the company - which also owns Old Navy and Banana Republic - have been sliding for much of the past two years, as has the price of its stock. From a high of more than $50 a share in 2000, the stock closed Friday at just $20.30.
... The 37-year-old company hit its hip zenith in 1996, when Sharon Stone strutted the red carpet of the Academy Awards in a black Gap mock turtleneck paired with a Valentino skirt. In 2003, the company turned to Madonna and Missy Elliott.
More recently, Gap has struggled to define itself in an increasingly crowded market, and analysts said the once-proud company hasn't risen to the challenge.
...Recent Gap commercials featuring hip-hop artist Common come two years after the company hired "Sex and the City" star and fashion icon Sarah Jessica Parker to be the face of the brand. The shift from hottie to hip-hopper shows the brand is having a bit of an identity crisis, Corlett said. "They've struggled with: Who is their shopper, and which shopper do they stand the best chance with?"
Recent attempts to right the ship have fallen flat. The 2005 launch of Forth & Towne targeted women aged 30 and over. More recently, the Gap debuted a shoe Web site called Piperlime.
Finally, last week, it announced it would closely reexamine the strategies behind its Old Navy and Gap brands.
... "The company is on financially very stable ground," Gap spokesman Greg Rossiter said.
But a clean balance sheet doesn't make the Gap's clothing cool again, and Wall Street has long worried that Pressler lacks the style sense of his predecessor Mickey Drexler.

Her "H + M" photo looks a lot like the Versace ads she did a couple of years ago. (View Madonna Versace Ads)
What is the deal with the huge glasses? She's been wearing them a lot for the past couple years. Is she trying to hide her face?

She sure is clutching her purse tightly. Is this a comment on her stinginess, or was she afraid of being mugged?
