Even more negative commentary about Manny's H&M clothing.
 Send In The Clones - Barbara Ellen
Sunday March 25, 2007
.... Looking more closely at the celebrity ranges, Lily Allen one can just about understand. At least she is young and has that 'street Audrey Hepburn' thing going on (full English Breakfast at Tiffany's, anyone?)
But hasn't Madonna already blown it once?
All that vogue-ing, all those stylised videos and yoga-tastic leotards, and what did she come up with for H&M last time?
A white 'Waynetta' tracksuit with pockets big enough to hold a kebab.
One can imagine the blood, sweat, tears, the all-of-10-seconds' thought, put into that. 'I see a tracksuit. White. With pockets.' Brilliant.
Ms. Ellen said this about Kate Moss, but the same is true of Madonna: - Then there is La Moss. Granted, she is our foremost style icon, but what is this one hears about her turning up at Topshop with a bunch of her own clothes for them to copy, sorry, 'draw inspiration from'.
Are Celeb Labels A Good Thing? - And while H&M claims Madge was involved with 'the smallest details' of the M collection, and the result is clearly very Madonna, with lots of cleavage and tight disco bits and bobs, I doubt she was actually that involved.
There were a few pieces I liked - a double-breasted blazer for £60, a black leather bag for £69.99 - and the black-and-white colour scheme and occasional geometric prints were spot on. But the quality and cut were still, dare I say it, rather below par.
.... But there you are.
We now think it is normal for a High Street, mass-produced dress to cost £100, just because it was 'designed' by Madonna. Another customer, a model in her 20s, said: "I'm not blown away. I think I will hang on and wait for the Kate Moss clothes to go on sale in May."
.... Yesterday morning, I began to wonder if all this isn't a case of the emperor's new clothes. Then I overheard a woman in the changing rooms at H&M, trying on a tiny Madonna jacket with puff sleeves and a matching pair of knickerbockers.
"I don't care who designed it," she laughed. "I still look hideous!"
So would Madonna be seen out in a £34.99 dress? - By Lauren Veevers
Published: 25 March 2007
As she arrived at the Langham Hilton, near Oxford Circus in London, last Tuesday, Madonna was dressed in a £34.99 H&M calf-length dress. Her message was simple: "Look girls, I practise what I preach."
It was hardly surprising she selected such a modest outfit, as the event was the launch of her fashion collaboration with the Swedish store. By the time she slipped home though, she wore characteristically more expensive attire.
Her bespoke tailored grey frock coat, worth thousands, and Dior clutch bag demonstrated the gulf between what the new breed of star "designers" wear and what they want you to buy in their name.
As Kate Moss, the model Milla Jovovich and the singer Lily Allen prepare to launch collections, a fashion line is the latest must-have accessory for the well-dressed celeb.
After careers in music, film, theatre and books under her cinch-waisted mock-croc belt, Madonna has also gone into the budget clothing line. The superstar, who has been dressed by the likes of Jean Paul Gaultier, claims she will wear the outfits herself.
.... But is it enough to persuade her fans to go for the Madonna-on-a-budget look? As the designs went on sale on Thursday there were none of the queues around the block which formed for H&M's limited edition runs of ranges by top designers.
"Although Madonna may wear the style of the range for H&M, I don't know if she would wear H&M on a regular basis," said Lorna Hall, of the fashion business magazine Drapers.
"Kate Moss is different because she has fashion cachet and is a style icon - people want to follow her. Kate Moss and Topshop are a good partnership - Kate does wear those kind of clothes."
Low-key launch for material girl's H&M range - Hadley Freeman, deputy fashion editor
Friday March 23, 2007 The Guardian
In what must count as one of the bigger missed retail opportunities of recent days, H&M chose to mark yesterday's debut of Madonna's fashion range by playing La Isla Bonita on the in-store soundtrack rather than Material Girl.
Yet this omission may have been ironically apt: unlike the celebrity high street ranges designed by Stella McCartney and Celia Birtwell for H&M and Topshop respectively, there were no snaking early morning queues and plenty of clothes were still on the rails after the initial rush.
However, [H&M] spokeswoman Chloe Bowers insisted that "everything is going great, it's been really popular", and no doubt H&M will maintain this optimistic front, even if they are nervous about recouping the six-figure sum they are rumoured to have paid for the collection, M by Madonna.
This was also in the article: - "Madonna was much more involved in this collection and there was a lot of going back and forth until she approved the pieces," said Ms Bowers.
Okay, so what she's really saying is that the 'real' designers did all the work, and once they were finished with a design prototype, they'd fax it over to Manny, who would say either 'yea' or 'nay' on it.
In other words, Manny didn't really design anything, only gave her approval or disapproval to other people's work.
No mad rush for Madonna's H&M collection - by Delphine Touitou / Mar 22, 2007
STOCKHOLM (AFP) - A new clothing line designed by Madonna for Swedish cheap-chic retailer H&M sold out in minutes in Stockholm, but the launch of the collection failed to spark mad rushes in other European cities.
The "M by Madonna" garments disappeared off the racks in a flash in Stockholm, where hundreds of shoppers had lined up outside H&M stores to be the first to get their hands on the collection, consisting of about 30 items of clothing and 10 accessories, launched around the world on Thursday.
But in the rest of Europe, there were no stampede scenes as seen in recent years when designers such as Karl Lagerfeld, Stella McCartney and Viktor&Rolf launched lines bearing their name for H&M.
In Paris, about 80 people lined up patiently outside the chain's store on Boulevard Haussmann before the opening. Once the doors opened the shoppers perused calmly through the racks.
In Madrid, home of H&M's Spanish rival Zara, the store was no busier than usual and the section selling Madonna's items was practically empty.
The same was true in the Finnish capital Helsinki.
In Stockholm as in Berlin, there were no chaotic scenes but the collection appeared to be a huge success and H&M said it was pleased by shoppers' positive reactions.
"The clothes were bought very quickly," company spokesman Jenni Tapper-Hoel told AFP, adding that stores across Sweden already needed to restock by midday.
At the large Hamngatan store in central Stockholm, the clothes flew off the racks in minutes. ...

Haven't a few sources already claimed that the reason for Stella McCartney's success over Madonna's due to the fact that Stella's was a "limited" collection (or some similar rationalization)?

Yes. That is what the spokespersons for H&M have said.
I've no idea why the stuff apparently sold well* in Stockholm, but it bombed everywhere else.
The fan sites are totally downplaying the fact that it tanked. And yeah, I find the justifications and explanations for the "M" line failing to be amusing. --------- *In another article, a shop keeper (in another country) said that while some items were bought, they were later returned.
Still others said that while there were people looking at the collection, nobody bought anything.
So... it may be that the clothes didn't "sell" well in Stockhom - maybe people were just there to look and did not buy.
Or maybe they bought but returned the clothing, as in the other stores.

Madonna's New Clothing Line Gets Mixed Reviews - By Ray McDonald
Washington 26 March 2007
Shoppers gave Madonna's new fashion venture mixed reviews March 22, on the occasion of its worldwide rollout.
The Material Girl's "M By Madonna" line of clothing and accessories is being marketed by the low-priced Swedish retailer Hennes & Mauritz AB (H&M).
.... An H & M sales associate said retail action has been equally divided between sales and returns.
This next story has positive things to say about the clothing itself, which I've left out (but the author did have some negative things to say about the clothing).
M by Madonna at H&M - selling out...or a sell-out? - Catwalk Queen - After a bit of a lapse of style last year and a pile of unsold white tracksuits as a result, it was no surprise that Madonna went the safe route this time around with her second stint as guest designer for H&M.
The 'M' by Madonna range launched last Thursday, and for once we got a lie-in, deciding not to go and film early-morning queues.
It's a good thing we didn't, too. Though there were die-hards out to beat the crowds, this is not a collection that'll make you rich via eBay.
The clothes are hardly in short supply, as we found on Thursday evening (when I picked up a black and white printed dress) and this afternoon, where we went back to snap some more of the muted, classic and - dare we say it - slightly dull range...

I thought she always made her "M"'s a little more fancy...Either she's in a hurry, strung out, or there are fake autographs:

Looks fake to me. I've gone thru lots of autographs since I collect a few people, not her of course, but she almost writes her name illegibly and in a hurry, with a weird M. Someone probably bought clothes to auction off and is stuck with them and wants to sell them off.

Blog Pg w More Billboard photos - Drowned Madonna
I'm so glad they put "The United States" under "New York" on the photos.
You know how I'm always asking, "Now where exactly is New York again, in Cuba? Greenland?"

Madonna's H&M Collection Disappoints - There was big fuss surrounding Madonna's "fashion" collection for H&M. Unfortunately, all the big fuss left people disappointed once they actually saw the collection.
Interestingly enough, when designers like Stella McCartney or Karl Lagerfeld designed for H&M the clothes went flying off the ranks in less than an hour.
According to focus group feedback, the “range looked cheap and there was a move to limit the launch to just accessories.” But the big bosses wanted to avoid any confrontation with Madonna so just went ahead with the launch.

Which means S&M, er, H&M disliked the junk but feared she would throw a Pepsi fit, and get paid from them for nothing. I bet H&M regrets hiring the old psycho mattress. The older she gets, the bigger tantrums she throws, like a kid. I think she is psychologically stuck in her teens for some reason.

H&M Looks Smart - Posted By:Jamie Corsi'
Swedish fashion retailer Hennes & Mauritz posted a healthy first-quarter profit, but it’s the company’s second-quarter results that may be very interesting and --the company hopes -- rewarding.
In March, H&M opened its first Collections of Style store, a new chain that will sell clothes at a higher price range. The first store is located on the fashionable and upscale Regent Street in Central London. Stores are scheduled to open soon in Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands.
March also brought the well-publicized launch of a collection co-designed by pop star Madonna, a move the company hopes will further boost sales during the second quarter. The M By Madonna collection hit stores March 22. Initial reaction was disappointing.
The same article goes on to say - The Swedish retailer, a leader affordable fashion -- was one of the first to combine celebrity collections with budget prices.
Their much-anticipated clothing line, "M by Madonna" went on sale March 22nd.
It is the second collection by Madonna for H&M. The 30-piece line was co-designed by Madonna and the Swedish retailer’s Director of Design, Margereta Van den Bosh, and includes a white trench coat, printed blouses and sequined shift dresses. Prices range from $30 to $580.
In many locations, the clothes went flying off the racks in less than an hour. H&M said the "M by Madonna" collection reflects Madonna’s "timeless, unique and always glamorous style."
1- as was reported by other journalists, much of the Madonna H&M clothing that was bought was later returned
and
2- the only place where the line was successful was Stockholm, Sweden

:good: Okay, maybe it isn't 90 ft but its big, its obnoxious and someone decided it would be cool to cut a hole in her eye and pour paint down the front. Now thats an artist. H&M will have to pay like 12K to replace the damned thing and is threatening to prosecute the individual if they find out who did it. I say give him a medal!

Appropriate as well, yellow ooze leaking from the nasty crone's eye. I hope the Mad Drizzler strikes again! H&M won't keep paying for these.

You guys are good! I was gonna post the picture as well :good:
It happened in Britain (guess that's why the geezer is leaving)......from the "Daily Mail":
"The poster, featuring two images of the 48-year-old superstar, is being replaced today at a cost of around £6,000.
The attack, near Old Street roundabout in Shoreditch, is believed to have taken place on Monday night or early on Tuesday.
Nobody has owned up yet, but Madonna has recently been criticised by anti-fur campaigners for wearing a coat made of chinchilla skins."
Yeah, it was just 'cause she wore a chinchilla coat.......didn't she have leather bustiers galore back in the day? It couldn't possibly be because people are sick and tired of the nauseating idiot. :puke3:
